v400 LCD Ribbon Cable

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I broke the LCD ribbon cable on my v400. I have searched for days, but still unclear on how I need to fix it. Do I need to replace the inner LCD screen? The outer LCD screen? Or can I just buy the ribbon cable itself?

Where's the best place to buy whatever I need to fix it?

Thanks!

anybody?

Many will agree with me; CNN.CN is a great place for OEM parts/accessories.

thanks man!

b4n5h33 could you tell me how you broke it??

Thanks

By changing the housing... The guides here really didnt help me much.

Guess I'll take my phone to my service provider and let them do it when i get my ribbon cable in.

ahh ok...thanks for the answer . IŽll try never do that thing jeje I always break my most important things

You gotta be careful when changing the V400 housing.

The most two most critical (and dangerous) steps is removing the LCD ribbon from the main board and flip apart.

You can easily tear the LCD ribbon during these two steps... Mine is a little wrinkled now but still works luckily.

Best of luck with the LCD ribbon/repair.

Got the new cable and everything works good now! If u need one, goto ebay and search for v400 lcd flex cable. It's a little cheaper than http://www.cnn.cn .

Posted by: reload796

V400 and V600 cables the same? I have the V600.. I went ahead and bought one from CNN.

Posted by: b4n5h33

I dont think so..... I know the V3xx, V4xx, and the V5xx are the same though.

CNN has the v600 cable here http://www.cnn.cn/shop/product_info.../products_id/32

or search ebay for v600 LCD flex cable....

how did you remove the excess part of the cable? Did you use scissors to cut it or something else?

Posted by: reload796

Yea just cut it to fit your phone. that why its there.

With what tool is my question.

Posted by: b4n5h33

I ran into a problem with the cable.... my old LCD ribbon cable looked like this... with the small end (at the top)

but the new 1 i got from ebay (and cnn.cn has the same ones) has a bigger end. It wouldnt go through the slot in the case when i was putting it back together..... I didnt know what else 2 do, so i cut it off.

The description said it was OEM replacement for v3xx, v4xx, and v5xx. Now, the main LCD works... and the outter LCD lights up, but doesnt display the time, show signal, ect?!?!?!? I'm missing something here......

Maybe try a master reset or relashing/flexing? I know I lost some custom settings after I put my phone back together.

And for the last time people, WHAT TOOL should I use to cut it???

Posted by: b4n5h33

I've tried to reflex it.... not gonna flash it. The outter LCD still doesnt display anything... just lights up.

Are u supposed to cut it? I mean it has circuits goin up to the tab thing?!?!?!? I cut mine with scissors... i guess u could use anything to cut it.

Posted by: Lemon

Just cut mine with scissors, both LCDs work fine.

I just replaced one in a V600... I used an exacto knife and kept cutting and cutting.. When i made a deep enough cut... I just snapped it off... Then I trimmed the edges a little to make it fit perfect. It's and easy fix as long as you take your time and don't force the ribbon anywhere...

I did the same thing the first time I did it. Look at this picture from my tutorial of replacing the V600 case... It's got to be similar in yours...

Where it says, "Don't forget this connector..."

That will fix it!

I very much doubt it. If he hadn't connected that connector, his main LCD wouldn't be working at all.

Read the post by AEC here:

Could be the sopurce of your problem, Banshee.

Edit: Though you might wanna check the cable/connection of the front LCD to the mainboard (the bottom right red arrow is pointing at it).

hrmmm... swapped out that LCD with another one and it works fine. Guess I got a bad LCD off ebay...

In regards to cuttring of the excess of the ribbon cable, where is the safe point to do so. I thought by cutting it, it would render it useless...?

You should make it the exact same length as your original cable. There's a noticeable break in the circuit lines right after the black terminal, cut it there.

u can see the line in this pic.... right above the black connector. That's where u wanna cut.

Use your old ribbon as a guide. Dennis writes notes on the ones he sells... (www.cnn.cn) Just where the line in the picture is above. The extension is there for use in other applications. You cut it off if you don't need it. I don't think I would use scissors though... It is likely to shatter instead of cut. Use an exacto or razor blade to score it about hlaf way through. then you can snap it... Just like tile or glass.

Posted by: Lemon

Scissors worked fine. No shattering, straight clean cut from crappy old scissors here.
