Ok for all you people that want to start millions of the same thread about "webjal does this and webjal does that" without even trying to search for the answers, here are the fixes for every known WebJal problem out there right now. If you need more help you can reach me on AIM at IdenMiniGod. DO NOT IM me about where to get WebJal from and no I will not give you a link to the Sticky at the top of the page. After you go here http://www.hofoufn.com/attachment.p...achmentid=11926 and download WebJal and install it will I help. I will start with the Run-Time Errors you might get while installing the Patch.

Run-Time Error 53
You either need to install the VB6 Files or remove the .sam from the HOSTS file.

Run-Time Error 70
Make sure you are logged into your computer as the Admin. Also check the HOSTS file for the Read-Only box as said before.

Run-Time Error 76
Download the patch from the sticky. This was a problem with Vinny's Patch that had the 2 half-naked girls on it.

How To Rename Your Host File
To rename your Hosts File all you have to do is open it in Notepad, do the changes you need to and then Save-As "HOSTS". It is important that you save it in all caps with the " " on the ends. Also make sure that right under where you type in the file name that you make "save as type" All Files and not Text Files.

The HOST file is the main problem for most of you. Make sure you only have one HOST file on your computer (you can find it in this folder XP/2000- C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc 9x/ME- C:\Windows\System). If there are multiple files that say HOST then delete them. Also make sure that the HOST file does not contain any file extensions (i.e. .sam, .txt, .blah blah blah). One Last thing to check is that the "Read-Only" box is not checked in the prop. Right click on the HOST file and go to PROP. Make sure that the "read-only" part is not marked.....its at the bottom.

Ok this part is for the people that are getting the "A general communication error occured while communication to the phone. Please verify the connection bettwen the computer, phone and cable as wel as your preference settings. In addition you may try setting the phone baud rate to 19200 or the "Can't connect to server" Error.

General Comm.
This can mean a few different things.

1. The file you are trying to put on is not the right format.
2. The file name is too long. They can only be up to 16 characters long.
3. WebJal just plain does not like the file. I have had a few files that I just cannot get to load to save my life. They are the right format, under 16 char. and everything but WebJal still will not load it. If this is the case DO NOT keep trying to load it. It may still be eating your memory and not giving you the file.

Server Error
Lots of people have been getting this lately.

1. They still have Vinny's server for some reason. This server crashed months ago. Get a new one.

2. You are using TekniDudes server. He took his down because of too many people complaining about him charging. All I know to do is to contact him about a Name and Password.

3. Vinny has a thread on how to set-up your own server. You can do this if you want to. I do NOT have a link to this, I have only heard of it.

4. If you still have problems or do not wish to do any of these options you can always wait till someone else makes a new server.

After reading all of this you still have problems feel free to post them here and I will reply as fast as I can.

I have tried to set up my own webjal server and it seems to run fine, the setup was done according to instructions ands I had to install the Vinnycuz patch manually. When I try to start webJal I get this error ----- Application unable to retrieve information from the server.------ I have set up webjal on 2 different PC's one with my own server and the other using technidude's server and some other server. all 3 methods got the same error message. CAn I get some help? I want to get my server up though I am not trying the other servers anymore.

I am using Win XP service Pack 2,
PHP 5.0
Webjal R010103
and the Vinnycuz Patch 1.0 installed manually, the patcher gives an error about could not find file .

This is wher ethe problem is The first 2 Pages work fine and Page 4 works fine, I just can't get this page up. The security message says there is a problem with the certificate, "The name on the certificate is invalid or the name does not match the name of the site"

Try getting the new version 3.0 webjal patch and see if that works. As for the page that wont come up....thats something Vinny did and I never even checked mine so I would not even worry about that.

Today wheni tried using webjal "The application was unable to retrieve required information from the server" Whats the deal with this. I'm using it to put ringtones on fones for my friends and then when i go to use it this thing pops up. I used it like a week ago and it was fine. Any one can help me please.

The same thing is happening to me. Worked fine last night now giving me the same problem you're having.

EDIT: Just got it to work. Run the lastest patcher again 2.2 then try opening it again. Worked for me.

Ok, so im getting this "general error". I ended up spending like 4 hours last night trying to get it. I use anvil, db, webjal etc etc to get it to work... I finally get the song on my phone... but then it doesnt play.. I get like a scratch or a knock from the speaker and then it just doesnt play. Any idea's...

It's an i830.

I did everything for getting webjal on a laptop. It has win98 on the comp. at first i was getting the error from webjal that it could not retrieve the info. then i read some where that there was a new patch 2.2 out and it would fix it. well i downloaded a new patch and now i get a run time error 62 when trying to patch it. i uninstalled webjal and reinstalled it and tried to patch it again and im getting the same run time. anyone else run into this problem? thanks

Ya I have seen that error one other time, real weird one took me forever to figure it out. It has something to do with a SpyWare or Pop-Up Blocker program. If you have any of these delete them, go into your HOST file and delete it out of there, then install WebJal and once it works you can install your SpyWare or Add Blocker again.

I'm getting the runtime 76 error. In the first post it says there was a problem with Vinny's patch & to download the on in the sticky. I don't see the sticky with the patch, if someone could link it or tell me where it is would be great (I may be blind & just missing it).

I've tried every fix I could find on a few forums with no luck I hope this works.

Hey, I have a i860 and used webjal to upload a few things, now when i connect the phone, it says to try again, since the application was unable to read the required information. This is a brand new nextel brand usb data cable, and a brand new phone. What could be causing this error? Please help, Thanks

I have everything, and I have read the threads, but correct me if I am wrong. I get the error message "failure to authenticate server" and I have the patches and the updated downloads. Should I find another server and how do I do that if there is another? Thank you for the information.

I put the public ip in the host file, do i need to put it in both spots?

I have Webjal 3 installed and running fine with my i730, but my i860 doesnt conect. I get this message" This version of JAL is not compatible with the software in the phone that was connected. Please download the latest version of JAL." I thought it was supposed to work with 3. Am I doing something wrong? The software version on the phone is .06.

I am not sure. I have .03 working just fine on my I860. Try reinstalling WebJal again and see if that helps.

i'm installed everything properly, i'm runing win xp and i have the USB cable, i've done everything fine and it worked great till a couple of days ago, it won't log in anymore i repatch it, i reinstall webjal and then repatch and it doesn't work, any suggestions?

It would be nice if a mod could clean up this thread a little bit, it makes it easier to read when all the questions that have been answered have been added to the first couple of posts.

Now for my niggle. I have everything installed, and I used the username from Tekniwap. It worked a couple of times, I could transfer over a few wallpapers and one ringtone, but now it won't work. when I try to transfer over wallpaper, it says that it has been transfered, but won't show up on the phone. And i have plenty of memory left, I even deleted a few of the default java apps and wallpapers.

2nd prolem. Right off the bat I assume that many of the ringtones posted on HoFo are in the wrong format, so that is why they won't load. I am not asking for help, just letting people know that most of the ringtones here are in the wrong format. For the i730 they have to be .wav or .mid only, and the right size.

Ya I have found that people like to post files that are in the wrong format. I guess they think its fun or something. It would be nice for a mod to clean this up a lil but what can you do. For some reason people dont wnat to read anything, they just want to post their problem and expect someone to answer then even though the answer is in the thread above theirs.

As for your problem. TekniDudes username only works for a little while. I think it was 250 Logins if i remember right. Best bet is go back to the way it was where you could leave it blank and hit ok.

okay i have read this whole thing and i still need help, i just got the i730 i dl the webjal, and the patch, i have the serial cable. i dont have ne wallpaper on my phone but the ones that came with it. i connected to webjal, i added the wallpaper in .gif form they downloaded but they never show up on my phone. where do they go and how do i get them I have tried all the patches and all the fixes, can you please help me? thanks in advance

I haven't seen this in the thread yet. I'm signed in but WebJal won't read my I860, it gives me the cannot connect to phone error. I installed the USB fix, I checked my hardware profile, no "!" or "x" 's . I'm not understanding what the problem is, I know it's got to be the USB because it won't read the phone in RSS either.

Dgirl: Wallpapers go in the same place as the ones that come on it. so instead of 3 wallpapers in there there should be the 3 that come with it and then whatever ones you put on it. If they are not there then they are in the wrong format. I had a few that I could not load to save my life. Problem with this is that they are still eating up your memory. Best bet is to try another wallpaper or maybe a ringtone to see if WebJal is in fact working for you.

Nex_Time: Yes that has to be your USB. Only thing I can think of at this time is either wrong drivers for the cable or you might have the same problem I had when I first started out. For some reason there is a file or something on the phone that the computer needs (named P2K or something). What I did was connect the phone to my computer and turn my phone off and then back on again. At some point or another it found it and everything worked finme after that.

Dgirl: Try using the WebJal I posted on page 3. What it is is you got the older version that cut off the Ringtones and lost the Wallpapers.

Dgirl it should not matter about AOL. I helped a girl out the other night that had AOL and she got it working. If you have DSL or something other then Dial-up it dont matter at all since you are always signed on.

As for games for the i860??????? Dude come on...give me something hard. The very first thing that comes up when you open WebJal is J2ME...thats your games. Just click ADD and go to where the game is just like a ringtone or soemthing and load it.

I upload Wallpapers fine. But when I try to upload ring tones, it says that there is a communication error between my phone and the computer. It says to change my baud rate to 19200 but its already at that. Whats the problem?

Ringtone is in the wrong format. Try a different one. I have this problem all the time. Also check to make sure the file name is not too long, and that its not an MP3 your trying to put on a I730 or something like that. More then likely its just the wrong format.

Phone has to be hooked up and connected to WebJal and you also have to be loged in to find WAV and MP3.

Should be. I have only had one driver for all the phones I have had (i730, i285, i830, and i860). If its not right post back and I will post mine up for you.

Use MP3s and dont turn the volume all the way up. I kept mine on around 5 or 6 at the most, I am also half deaf so you might want to try 4 or 5.

File name is too long. Wrong format. WebJal does not like the song. Can be any one of those. Try a different file and see if that works. Try a wallpaper, they work best.

Can someone supply a working link for webjal 3? I can't find any. The one I did get doesn't allow me to add .wav's or mp3/s because it doesn't give me the option to choose äll files", only midi's, which I dont want.

L3thal All of the WebJals will let you select WAV and MP3, you have to click the lil arrow next to where it says MIDI. Also make sure your phone is connected and your loged in. If you still need the ver .03 look on page 3 of this thread.

Already ran into Minor issue. First thing is we are dealing with BOOST i730. Call me dumb, but how do I get rid of Wallpaper and Ringtone Files I dont want? I dont see a delete in WebJal and No dleete within the phone.

2. It seems to load the .jar games from my v600, and recognize them but will not install after I download to phone. Was I wrong in ×××-U-MEing that these are interchangeable

Highlight the Wallpaper or ringtone you want to Delete and hit the menu button, it will have Delete in there. You CANNOT delete the Ringers 1-12 that come on it and the only way to delete the 3 wallpapers is to either name a file the same as them or do Recover Phone in RSS. V600 games, some work and some dont. If you want a good site with alot of games go to www.shroomserver.org

For all you who use various webjal setups such as the vinnycuz webjal server or patches or whatever.

You will no longer have to look anyfurther for smooth webjal functionality as well as mp3/wav conversion and wallpaper resizing and formats.

Myself and vinnycuz have addressed all of these issues and we are now beta testing the Genesis all in one application.

No more apache or download this and download that all you need to download is Genesis Done!

We will be starting Phase 2 testing soon so you have as long as you want but it may be released by the time you get 50 posts.

Phase 1 testing is near complete and there are 3 phases of testing before we release.

Yeah i'm one of the beta testers/moderators over at noob and may i say everything on our tests are going great so far. i have tested it on line off line and on every single nextel phone from i-90 to i-860... perfect.

62 is a Pop-up Ad Blocker, SpyWare thing. Disable that stuff and it should work.

I was told you still need WebJal for it though. From what I was told Gensis is an offline server so now you dont need to be online to use it. It also does alot of other things in it though. If you still cant get WebJal to work go to www.nextelnoob.com and get the Vinny Server 2.0. Everyone over there says its flawless.

I may be wrong but the guys makeingit told me that Gensis is an Offline server so now you dont need to be online to use it. It also has a load of other things in it also.

I remember that my webjal was workin fine till one day it started to say"The application was unable to retrieve required information from the server." I thought that it was the new aol installed, but I tried to uninstall and nothing. Then I discovered that if I change the year on my computer to 2004, then webjal worked fine and it's been working for me like that.

Now I have uninstalled in the right order and reinstalled webjal, usbfix and the patch with restarting in between each of the 3 steps. Still not working.

I have tried to unplug my usb cable and replug, still not working.

I have tried EVERYTHING imaginable to get this going. I have a degree in computer science with business information systems and I cannot seem to get this Webjal going please help me someone pleaseeeeee help me.

Holy Crap!!!! What happened? Yesterday my computer crased and I had to resore it. But now my webjal wont work. When I tried to download the webjal and the patch everything worked fine. Make sure that your connected to your phone and click the small drop arrow next to where it says MIDI Ringtones after you click ADD.

All Falcon data cables are the same. The one for the i730 will fit it. There are only 2 cables out there really, older phones and newer ones.

I tried deleting almost everything to see how much memory I had free.

I currently have 5 images, totalling 126kb. No ringtones, no java apps, no voice records, just those five pictures.

I have 291kb free, but this fluctuates every time I turn the phone off/on.

Is there anywhere else that store stuff in memory?

I figured out my problem... after I reinstalled, I did not check the settings of webjal... it was NOT set back to USB... once I did that... BAM.. everything is working great!!

MP3 guy. Try getting someone to look at the clip. Might be a minor prob with the format or something.

Comm error. Make sure that the USB box is checked under Perf and also make sure that you have drivers installed right.

your not converting the wav file correctly.

It MUST be:

Sample Rate: 8000
Channels: Mono
Resolution: 8-bit

then resave it.

But, I recently had my phone swapped out thru Nextel and when I trying to add ringers but, I keep getting the communications error. these are all the same ringtones that i have loaded on my old phone but, now is doesn't work. Oh...and I can load games & wallpapers but no ringtones. why????

mrecktid: That was a temp fix from Jason at TekniDude.com. Use the patch on page 3 and leave both fields blank and hit ok and it should sign you in.

elkitty: You have a newer i730 now (i730T I think) and that may be why. The newer ones are different in small ways.

The General Comm Error for the ringtones is a bad format error. There is something wrong with the rings your trying to put on. You said they worked before right? Try renaming them and see if that works. If not try downloading them from a site and seeing if that one works. Have you always had teh i60 SIM in it?

The unable to connect error. Have you tried using the WebJal and Patch on page 3 of this sticky? Try that first and then see where it gets you. Also if your on Dialup make sure your online before you try to use WebJal.

i've got webjal up and running... but when i try to connect to phone, it tells me it's unable to read phone information and to check my cable connection and preferences...... so i do, but everything looks fine to me, but i try any possible combination anyway. could it be that i'm using a serial data cable instead of a USB cord? my phone says "device attached" and everything.. what's wrong?

I did firgure out by converting the songs into a midi file in 0 format works....no problem.

So is a midi file harmful to my phone...cause it sounds almost as good as a wav. file

OK. I got a WAV to load with these settings. However, I still have the General Comm error with MP3s. I have tried 15 second clips and 30 sec clips at 64kbps and 128 kbps. Not working.

What are the exact format requirements for an MP3 to load on an i860?

Anyone having trouble getting the error 70 when applying the patch for webjal make sure your system32/drivers/etc dir is not read only. I did this but still got the error.
I had to reboot to safe mode and then install the patch and it worked.

I'm having that same problem with my i860. I keep getting the general connections error as the file seems like it's getting finished. I've used Cool Edit Pro (a program the guy at my nextel store in town said to use) and dbPowerAmp (the program my friend used to get mp3s on his i730.

The only thing I guess I wanna know is, is it possible to get mp3's onto the i860, and if so, what is the "format" (kbps, Hz, and the mono rate, which should be three numbers separated by colons.)?

I've gotten wavs on there, but the wav format is saved in such a big filerate that sometimes it's in the 30 millions of bytes.

that's funny because my wav's on the i860 are all less than 30K.

make sure they are set to 8000 bit rate, 8-bit, mono and no longer than 25 seconds.

I have a I730 and the other day I downloaded webjal and the patcher from Harry Thompson and everything worked perfectly. I was able to load ringtones and wallpapers with no problem. Then 2 days later I use it in the morning and it worked but then all of a sudden later that afternoon after I logged in when I tried to connect to my phone I got the "The application was unable to read the required phone information. Please check your cable connection and preferences." I checked my prefernces which were all right and it is checked to connect via usb cord. I checked my cord to make sure it was plug to the drive and to the phone. Everytime I plug in the cord to my system and then to my phone it says device attached on my phone. I then tried reconnecting my cable and rerunning the program. I tried other phones similar to mine (I710 and another I730 which I made ringtones for) that worked earlier in the week. I even uninstalled all programs and reinstalled with Harry Thompson and other programs found through-out multiple nextel forums including the program on page 3 of this sticky. I did follow all instructions and restarted the info after each program. I even tried using Mobile Dudes server (mdjal) which set up fine but is giving me the same error. This is a new motorola usb cord but could it be the cord? I have redone the drivers as well. Please help me. Also make sure that right under where you type in the file name that you make "save as type" All Files and not Text Files.

The HOST file is the main problem for most of you. Make sure you only have one HOST file on your computer (you can find it in this folder XP/2000- C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc 9x/ME- C:\Windows\System). If there are multiple files that say HOST then delete them. Also make sure that the HOST file does not contain any file extensions (i.e. .sam, .txt, .blah blah blah). One Last thing to check is that the "Read-Only" box is not checked in the prop. Right click on the HOST file and go to PROP. Make sure that the "read-only" part is not marked.....its at the bottom.

I am having a rather perplexing problem. When I am in webjal and select "Connect via USB connection" it tells me that no driver is installed. Trust me I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, webjal, etc a dozen times. The thing that makes it really perplexing is that the phonebook program works just fine-communicates with the sim and writes the sim. I used to do a lot of downloading of stuff to my i95 but have not fooled with it quite some time and now I just got an i860 and was trying to load some stuff on it but have encountered this slight problem (I have downloaded the latest webjal, patch, drivers, etc.) Any suggestions, I have an i860, usb cable, windows xp sp2.

The method Xplod posted is a good one, but...That seems to be almostly the exact same method shaun from motospeak posted about just over a year ago...his was a different web address to add in 'hosts' (66.197.153.197 idenupdate.motorola.com) but other than that the wording is exact...never the less the method should solve the server problems

Downloaded as stated and still same problem. The program runs and the USB box is checked in preferences, but when you click connect to phone it acts as though the phone isn't being recognized by the USB. If I go into device manager it shows the IDEN modem, but thats it. The P2K device has the yellow exclaimation point next to it. If I reload the driver it says device unable to start error 10. For some reason SP2 and the USB are not working correct. Any other suggestions???????

I dont understand..... need help

...i've been using webjal for a while and never had any trouble with it now it says that "THIS VERSION OF JAL IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE SOFTWARE IN THE PHONE THAT WAS CONNECTED. PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE LATEST VERSION OF JAL." I have i860 its never done this b4 so i was wonderin if yall could me out

i am having a problem with WebJal. every time i try to put a ring tone onto my i530 it says something about the baud rate 19200. now i looked at the file and the file name wasnt 2 long. but how would i tell if the midi's are a type 0 or what ever?
