WebJal Trouble For NooBs.

Ok I read up, and looked in the threads and I'm clueless as to what I am doing wrong.

I downloaded Webjal.
Installed
Installed the patch
Then installed the new USB drivers

Logged in with username and pass blank
Set it to connect via USB connection.

Once I try to connect I get "The application was unable to read the equired phone information. Please check your cable connection and your preferences. Click retry to try again of cancel to stop"

I checked the connection, its fine.

I tried switching USB ports, no luck

I'm at a loss here, and I hate to be begging for help, but I really can't think of anything else.

If anyone could reply on here, or even better IM me at Spork1138 on AIM that would be great.

ya i keep having that same problem..all my stuff is connceted..changed usb drives and it still says it cant read my phone and stuff...no idea wat to do..i have all the necessary updates and such..any ideas?

you don't need a user name and password for webjal, you just need a patch. and why are you paying for something that is absolutly free.

I get the same thing when I use MDjal. Now my webjal is having a problem getting info from the server. It'll say... "The application was unable to retrieve required information from the server."

It did not work. The problem is not with webjal. Its with apache.

I'm having the same problem as edgewoodzgimp13. The webjal fails with a communcations error when I use my i90c but works fine with all other phones (i205, and i730) It just the i90c that gives me problems. I tried MDjal and I get the same error as edgewoodzgimp13. Is the data cable for i205's and i730 incompatable with i90s?

PS. I was able to transfer my phonebook with the IDEN Phonebook manager to the i90c with no problems.

when i hit `install` it says :

Run-Time Error "53"
File Not found

how can i get rid of this ?

I searched your site, downloaded the webjal/patch and now it seems to be working but I can't get it to the phone, tells me it is not connected, and it is checked and rechecked, sorry if I didn't see anything on this problem, can you tell me how to proceed from here? Thanks

great FAQ's on this board.

Took a cple hours and read thur all the threads pertaining to i860..

thanks to all those who took the time to write everything down..

Now I have tons of custom ringtones I made and some cool wallpapers.

Also I read on a FAQ that sometimes WEB JAL does not like certain .wav files. no matter hom many times I tried to upload them they never worked. Well after reading another post I saw that once you chop the file and or download from another website.. You need to convert the file again. Well i went back to all the ringtones I was trying to download earlier and received an error on and converted them once again.., and all of them loaded to the phone properly..!! So just an FYI..

The cable, and both the phones are not the problem cause I tried them both in RSS and they both connect and are able to be reconized in a com port scan test.
Why doesnt either programs webjal and my work? its obviously the problem since the phones are being read. I reinstalled everything several times. Ive connected, disconnected, Rebooted, opened , closed, etc. Ive searched like 5 different forums ... seen tons of people with the same problem but no answers. Ive tried every solution Ive seen posted and nothing works. It worked a week ago and now nothing. Ive used VinnyCuz's, tried using webjal from different sources... same problem.

Still does not reconize the phone to connect.
some one please help im gonna throw the phones.

I keep getting a error message telling me "failure to authenticate with the server". What am I doing wrong. How can I fix this. I just purchased this cable and set up less than a week ago and I can't get the ringtones, etc. onto my i830. Please help.

Disconnect the cable and restart the phone and try again.

If that doesn't work.
Disconnect the cable and restart the phone and Webjal and try again.

If none of that works post back here.

Nothing, and on top of that, when i go to the load ring tones part and look for the ringtones (unconnected) it only gives me the option for midi's.

General Comm.
This can mean a few different things.

1. The file you are trying to put on is not the right format.
2. The file name is too long. They can only be up to 16 characters long.
3. WebJal just plain does not like the file. I have had a few files that I just cannot get to load to save my life. They are the right format, under 16 char. and everything but WebJal still will not load it. If this is the case DO NOT keep trying to load it. It may still be eating your memory and not giving you the file.

I keep getting the error regardless of of format. Could the problem be the frequency or size of the file?

I know it is probably posted somewhere, but I need to download apache http server 1.3.29 I am not able to find a working link to download it. I had webjal all set up on my system before i formatted it. Can anyone help me, it will be greatly appreciated.

i have the same problem as Boz007

the phone will do a complete download of the ringtone but when its done it will give a error message about the baud rate of the phone not being At 19200 even thou it is and yes the usb box is checked. please help quick

as soon as i connect my phone to the computer it says new hardware found but after it says problems occurred while installing your new hardware.

I've scouring the boards all day long (literally) I've read, and read. Uninstalled and Reinstalled, and I still can't upload a damn tone to my phone.

I've downloaded WebJal, The Patch, VB6, all that works fine, I downloaded an editor so I can edit my ringtones, all that works fine. But when I try to upload the RINGTONES, ONLY RINGTONES I MAKE the things dont work. I downloaded ringtones off of another website, they work perfectly, said they used cool edit to fis them, so I did too, to the exact same specs. 8000hz 8bit Mono for Wavs, 8000 32bit Mono for MP3's, and MINE dont work, though the ones he made work.
I don't understand.

I am using the USB, with my i850, does anybody have ANY suggestions, I'm not a moron, and I know how to convert music, so if anybody can help me in any shape, form or fashion PLEASE aim: dalynqwent me, or post a reply PLEASE, thank you.

can someone help me i think theres a problem with my 860 because no matter how many times i reinstall my drivers (stop suggesting that idiots!) a pop up tells me that a proplem occurred while installing new hardware. so what could be the problem with the phone?

I finally figured this out.

1.DL/Install usb driver from idenmoto
2.DL/Install webjal/patcher from the post on the bottom of pg 3 this thread.
3.when you plug the usb/phone into the comp, it will pop up "new hardware found"
4.Following that, a box will pop up saying something to do with installing software. Click the box that allows you to select the software from disk. Install it.
5. start webjal, connect phone/usb, sign in. Make sure "usb connection" is selected under "preferences".
6. click connect to phone. "please wait" appears. during this time, another "new hardware found" box will appear, followed by a box stating something about p2k/patriot(something like that).
7.Following that, a box will pop up saying something to do with installing software. Click the box that allows you to select the software from disk. Install it.
8. webjal should work connect to your phone, and go from there. hope this helps, if not, pm or im me. BTW, this information is stated no where else I could find on the internet.

has anyone had webjal mess there conputer up?...i have windows xp and when i installed webjal from the harrythompson site during the installation it said that it doesn't pass the windows logo or something and that the program will make some other programs stop working!...is this true!

I HAD THE SAME THING. GO TO PREFERENCES AND CHECK THE BOX FOR " CONNECT VIA USB CONNECTION, THEN CLICK ON APPLY... make sure that you are logged onto the internet and open internet explorer browser... good luck.. this worked for me.. ps.. baud rate 19200...

I now got it working I realized I did not have it set for USB. But now I have done everything for ringtones I did everything...... I cut parts of it out converted all that but it is not working it says it can only be 20 characters long it is too long. I tried searching and haven't found an answer to what I'm going to ask, and I didn't want to start a new thread being that this one exists, so hopefully I'll figure out the answer.....

I had webjal when I first got my i860 and after a lot of effort and help from this forum I got it up and running fine on my Compaq Presario laptop. I had Windows XP Home Edition and SP1 running. I ended up getting the webjal, my i860, and compaq/windows to go together and work just fine. Occasionally I'd have to turn the phone on and off and restart the computer, but other than that; it worked great.

I ended up getting into a car accident and my laptop was with me in it and got messed up. I have a new laptop now. A gateway running
Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2".

I have a good version of webjal and everything is set up correctly, as far as I can tell, including the USB Drivers. I can load webjal, login (by leaving the name and password inputs blank), and when I goto Connect to the phone (after changing the preferences to USB), I hear the computer sound when it connects through USB's, you know, the "da-ding"... However, it wont allow me to connect. It says please wait, then flashes through the detecting Motorola screen and then a few da-dings and then an error message......

and I've gotten to the same part with the other application that I guess I shouldn't mention here....
I'll type this: **jal
I've tried that other application and webjal and both programs look to be working great, I think its something to do with Windows or the computer. Can anyone help me out here? Feel free to IM me at MRRBEST or PM here or post here.

There's some more information "Reporting details........ and then I can click a link to "view technical information about the error report" and to see the "data collection policy on the web".

I can take screen shots if you guys want of the error message but I think what I typed should explain everything. Thanks again for anyone that knows what the case is. Again, I'd assume its a bug or conflict with something between webjal or **jal and the windows operating system I have....

Oh yeah, also, when I click "Don't Send" the pop up error message goes away and this message pops up:

Summary:
I encounter an error that webjal needs to close right when its about to go through. I log in and connect (the USB is checked off and everything) and I see the connection, please wait, beep, beep, and right when I think its about to go and load my phone's information and let me add files, etc I receive that error. Its a Windows error. I'm using Windows XP and I have SP2. I tried the recently mentioned method above. I reinstalled the USB Drivers, webjal, and the patch (restarting the computer after all three installations). Still the same result. This did work on my previous computer. I'm confused. Someone please help.

Ok thanks for the story!! try un-installing everything to do with webjal, then re-install and shut down and start back up, connect the cable to the computer and then to the phone. This should be ok!

Well I wanted to post as much as possible relating to the issue so there wouldn't be a need for redundant questions. I posted all the error information, etc.

Thanks for the post reccomending to uninstall and reinstall and then restart (just like mentioned in every other webjal help thread and mentioned god knows how many times here). I've obviously tried that several times. Does not work.

I need help with uploading ringers using webjal. When i upload it only allows me 2 upload .midi type files. i cant change the file type... help.

your phone needs to be connected, then you have to hit the drop down list.

First you have to have your phone connected to the computer. Click connect to phone in webjal at the very top. Then click the box that has an arrow pointing down. Then click .wav or .mp3

hey...i have I870...installed webjal with patch...can log in but it won't connect to my phone...try to unplug the usb cable and plug back in..still doesn't work.... what's the problem here? is webjal not compatible with i870 or something?

someone help me out... i get this error, but i have the usb drivers installed. it wont let me check the connect via usb box because of this error so i cant connect. i've reinstalled multiple times with no luck anyone no what i can do for it to fine the usb driver? i'm usein WinXP it used to on this comp with my i830.. but then i uninstalled it and now when i go to use it it doesnt let me select usb..

what can i do?

Well I just figured out that its a problem with webjal. I am starting to think it is a problem or a conflict rather between webjal and something to do with service pack 2 or one of microsofts updates. The moto media downloader works fine.

Any suggestions?

i got it to work by pluggin in my old i95 and checking the connect via usb box. seems like u need a pre-i870 phone to install the proper drivers recognized by webjal give it a shot worked for me

Thanks for the tip. I was having the same problem until I tried your idea. I used my old 830 first and now the 870 connects fine. This was on a fresh install of XP btw.
Which leads me to ask, waht if I didn't have another phone lying around? What if I sell the phone and have to reinstall XP 6 - 12 months down the road? What will we do then?

borrow a friends for a sec. thats what i ended up doing since i broke my i830 into pieces and my i95 is well dead now haha. or just buy an i90 for dirt cheap just for this purpose

I found some instructions on idenphones site. Since mine is already working maybe someone that is still having the problem can test out and report back to us.

are you running a usb or com port cable.....if you are running usb do 2 things....make sure you have the usb drivers installed....and make sure you go to the webjal prefrences(options) and select "connect via usb...

if you are running com port cable make sure you goto the webjal options and make sure the correct com port is selected

Ok 4 days searching & counting..

1st i got a dev center error, so i downloaded VB.run60
Then i uninstalled & reinstalled webjal i downloaded the patch
now i click ok as usual without typing anything
but it says "the password is invalid for username given"
so i downloaded the patch again, but it still says the same thing when i try to log on

Ive been using webjal for almost 2 years without any problems, but recently the newer i730s wont read. The software version I have on this new i730 is R2B.01.07 could that be why it read? Perhaps we need a newer version of webjal?

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, my web jal just started to act up it opens up fine but when I connect to the phone I get a windows error and asks if I want to send an error report then closes. So if anyone has any advice I'm all ears. and I have reinstalled everything and still a no go.

Ok i was getting this one message at first but it was only towards one certain picture. {A general communication error occurred while communicating to the phone. Please verify the connection between the computer, phone and cable as well As your preference settings. In addition you may try setting the phone Baud Rate to 19200.}

Im trying to upload a picture that my girlfriend sent me and its not working at all. I changed the file ext from jpg to gif so that i could save it as a wall paper but in the phone its not even giving me an option to save as a wallpaper. The only options there are are:

Now i tried everything from putting it on the transflash to changing the name on the file to saving it in different .gif types of format. The file is coming out to be about from 69kb-133kb.gif (Different variation of the pic) What am i doing wrong? Does it have something to do with the size of the pic? I have plenty of space. When i changed the extentions using photoshop i wasnt able to upload them to my phone. When i just change the file ext by renaming it i was able to upload it. Weird or what? Can anyone help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Ok. I am a noob but I have read all 22 pages of this thread and before I posted I had webjal working with no problems. I have an I730. I previously thought I read that the files needed to be converted to a .mid so I did and some of them loaded. I have been having trouble with the "communication error" after the download seems to have finished. I have since read on another site that the I730 needs a .wav file. They actually had a sample to try and it worked. I converted some of the stubborn files to this type and no luck. They are 16 characters long including the extension. I tried the dbpower amp converter to make sure they were the right format and I get an error when trying to convert them. When I look at their properties with this utility when it shows the length of the file it is 0. Even though it plays on the computer and it also shows the size of the file as being something other than a 0. What suddenly happened? Baud rate is correct. Not using a USB and that is set correctly.

1st thing I running VPC 6 from my mac, I finally got XP to work and so on, however, now i'm having trouble with both webjal and *****. I get the following when i open them up:
>rundll32.exe- unable to ocate componnt- this application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.

>RUNDLL - error loading srclient.dll. The specific module could not be found.

>The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I not a pc person I really have no idea what to do or what all this means, I really want to use webjal or ***** i just want to be able to use this Applications. Anyone please help. I did a search and i didn't find anything on these errors.[IMG]

General Comm.
This can mean a few different things.

1. The file you are trying to put on is not the right format.
2. The file name is too long. They can only be up to 16 characters long.
3. WebJal just plain does not like the file. I have had a few files that I just cannot get to load to save my life. They are the right format, under 16 char. and everything but WebJal still will not load it. If this is the case DO NOT keep trying to load it. It may still be eating your memory and not giving you the file.

Server Error
Lots of people have been getting this lately.

1. They still have Vinny's server for some reason. This server crashed months ago. Get a new one.

2. You are using TekniDudes server. He took his down because of too many people complaining about him charging. All I know to do is to contact him about a Name and Password.

3. Vinny has a thread on how to set-up your own server. You can do this if you want to. I do NOT have a link to this, I have only heard of it.

4. If you still have problems or do not wish to do any of these options you can always wait till someone else makes a new server.

After reading all of this you still have problems feel free to post them here and I will reply as fast as I can.

No matter what i attempt to put onto my phone i get that message... can you help me with this?

1st off all my phones DO work with Webjal. Only one problem though. With my i870 I can connect via USB, with my i730 and i530 it won't connect. I have to use a serial cable with these phones to connect. Any thoughts????

I'm having a little problem with my WebJal. Before, when the program asked me for a user name and pass, I just clicked OK and it worked fine for me. Now, I do the same thing but it tells me the pass is invalid. Also, when WebJal does open, the only boxes on the left are for apps and preferences, where as before there were boxes for ringtones and wallpapers. I'd really appreciate the help, thanks..

I am extremely frusterated here. For some reason when I go to preferences to select "Connect Via Usb Connection", I get an error message saying "There is no iDEN USB driver installed". Now, my computer recognizes my phone. When I connect my phone via USB to my computer is says on the phone "Device Attatched". My computer has automatically installed whatever software it needs. And it says that my phone is connected on COM PORT 4.

I've spent 4 hours trying to figure out what's wrong and have no clue what to do. No matter what I do, I cannot check the preference usb box, without getting this error.

Im a first time poster, but a lONG time webjal user with my previous i860. I currently am having issues with webjal & my i870, apparently the same issues everyone else is having cuz when i plug in my 870 & login then hit "connect to phone" i get the error message "The application was unable to read the required phone information?" So i followed what everyone was suggesting I deleated all downloaded programs & redid it about 8 times, then i tried the registry idea, then I went back & read about 20 diffrent forums all sugesting UFNjal(didnt work either!) as a last ditch effort I then tried pluggin in my old i860 (which seems to connect fine) but once i switched the cords & hit "connect to phone" it obviously couldnt read the required BLAH. BLAH. BLAH!!! Im so frustrated i been sittin here for 2 days researching all kinds of forums on the net (just do a google/yahoo search of webjal & i8760 issues, & see how many come up)& tryin to make this crap work & it doesnt. For some reason it worked for all of you, can somene please help me, I have all these ringtones in my 860 id like put into my new 870 & its not possible with webjal OR ufnjal I dont know what else to do . & If anyone has questions as to were im gettin the progroams to download from, im gettin them from the harrythompsons site.

I submitted a pic of the error i get, it seems like i only get this error with "bigger" files. Format is right, under 16 characters, but just wont upload to the phone. There is alot of them that do this to me. Do i have to cut the file down in size somehow, but i cant with Sound Recorder because it says its not a valid WAVE file, cause its a MIDI file. Just got this software and program and cable so im kinda new at all this. Any help would be appreciated.
Also i would get this error when installing wallpapers until i went in and resized them and they all work fine so thats what makes me think i need to resize the ringtone files. For example i DID upload a MIDI file that was 2.64Kb and played in windows media player for 20 seconds, but cannot upload a file that is 7.67 Kb that plays in windows media player for 33 seconds. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, im having a prob with trying to get webjal to work with my i870. I keep getting this error msg (pic attached) when i try and to "connect phone" im webal. Ive uninstalled webjal, the patcher, the usb drivers, all the device drivers and keep getting the same here. Weird thing is i happens on by my laptop and desktop, but webjal will work fine with my i860, my wifes i730 and my brothers i836. Does anyone have any ideas? Thnx much for the advice.

In case it matters im on xp, have sp2 installed, installed all required and recomended upgrades through ms update (nothing left to update), have the new firmware on the i870 and am using a usb cable.

Were you any able to check it prior to importing the key to your registery ?
(I was not, webjal was keeping telling me there was no USB driver installed, which is false, I did install them).

Changing this value in the registry got me able to work with webjal, and other soft by Moto as well, which I couldn't use prior to make this change in the registry. What problem are you facing actualy ?

ZI, I'm actually good to go, Wed night I uninstalled all Moto SW, hooked up my son's i530, reinstalled all (I still had to do it twice), reconnected my i870 and even did a mod using latest carrier17 sw.
FWIW, try unchecking that box then checking it again manually. It'll complain about the drivers.

Hey all, I'm trying to load an mp3 ringtone on to my i860 using webJAL, and I've gotten as far as clicking the download button. It gives me an error message that the filename is too long (needs to be less than 20 characters). So, I try to shorten the filename, and as soon as I click download, the old (long) filename pops up again, and gives me the same message. How would I shorten the filename so this doesn't happen.

Ok not sure if this has been posted yet, but i dont have time to go thru 1000 pages of forum threads, so here it is:

the answer to all of you with the "general communicating error" when uploading .wav's to your phone is this:

use dbpoweramp and use these settings (if you are sure the length of the filename is less than 16 characters):

8 bit, 8000Hz, 1 'Mono

I guarantee it will work. Most the problems have been in my experience that the wave needs to be a PCM formatted type wave file. it worked for me as I was using Nero wave editor to make my waves, but it wasnt the correct type of wave.

And to whover said it had to be under 25 seconds, thats not true. it can be as long as you want it, just rememeber that the longer it is, the less room you will have for more ringtones.

Hello, i searched the forum for about an hour and didnt find an aswer to this.

I have webjal installed fine. It works and connects to my i710 perfectly. I just tried to connect my new i870 and it trys to connect and after about 30 seconds, it says could not connect to check phone connection or cable connection? Any ideas on this?

this is driving me insane. i have installed all drivers(iden usb straight from motorola.com, and have the p2k driver) and i d/l the registry patch posted by ZI but i keep getting the error message no iden usb drivers installed when trying to check the box for usb in prefrences. can someone please help.

ok when was the last time your pc was formatted and a new clean install of xp was installed? try that once then install your drivers. pc's really need to be formatted at least once a year to keep them well oiled. you will be amazed as to how much faster and cleaner your pc will work if you do that once. Then the usb drivers will install cleaner and will work better for you. If you dont want to go thru all that, try goin to device manager and removeing the drivers for the usb devices, then restart, reboot one more time, then reinstall the webjal usb drivers....

Humm....

Are you saying that you are NOT able to check the USB box even after loading the file to your registry ?

If so, pls do it manualy and try again.

GOTO: Start - Run - Type: Regedit - navigate to: [HKey_Current_User]\software\motorola\WebJal\Options - right-click on Options - choose New Dword Value - Rename it: Use USB - double-click on that new value and change 0 for 1.

You should not have to restart your computer 'cuz this value is read by webjal, not by windows, but just to make sure, reboot.

Your ringtones must be set as:

No more than 20 characters long, including the extension (.mp3);
They have to be in the following format: 32Kbps - 8000Hz - Mono.

Available for download many places over the web, just google-it !

Many other people use kinda Roxio (and other programs), but dbamp is just soooo easy to use, you right-click on the file you want to convert, set the settings, and you're ready to go. Free trial.

Trying to set up on a new comp and having trouble. Keep getting this error

"The application was unable to read the required phone information. Please check your cable connection and your prefrences."

The USB ports are working fine on the computer..... just doesnt seem to be detecting this Motorola USB data cable.

Any suggestions??

Please verify the connection between the computer, phone and cable as well as your preference settings. In addition you may try setting the phone baud rate to 19200" I checked what it said and made sure the prefrence was right so now what, lol?
So, I am not that great with computers but what do I do? The fine only has 6 letters in it and I don't know what else to do. Thanks in advance!

Also.. I have been reading back in posts and saw someone else having that same problem as me and in a reply there was a link but it wouldn't open. I am not working with MIDI ringtones, I am using WAV ringtones.

That error usually occurs when the ringtone is not compatible with the phone. Check the ringtone's properties with an audio program such as cool edit pro or avicodec. The ringtone should be at 8000 Hertz, 8-bit mono.
(CD quality is 44,100 Hz, 16-bit stereo) If you don't have software to check and/or edit the ringtone, send me a reply and I'll give you a link to freeware/trial version software.

I was going crazy for almost a week and then saw a post that said to disable your virus protection and spyware, download everything again and it worked!! Right after I got it working I enabled my computer protection again. Give it a try... they said there isn't a danger of getting a virus when you download it but I ran a quick scan after I was done and all is good!!
