LG5550 & BitPim

Tried searching these forums but haven't been able to solve my problem....

Just wondering if any members have been able to upload ringers/wallpapers to the LG5550 using Bitpim.

I purchased the USB data cable for the LG6000 and have tried using Bitpim to no success.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA!

do you have the drivers?
which version of bitpim?

tell bitpim you are using the vx4500.
it works.

Thanks for the reply...I've used Bitpim version 0.7.20 and 0.7.18 with no luck.

I downloaded the drivers from LG's website - do you know which drivers I need to use?

TIA

I've had no real trouble with BitPim 0.7.15, but it is apparent that the software doesn't truly "support" the phone, it merely "works with" the phone, if you catch my distinction.

The first step here is figuring out where your porblem lies. The most likely suspect is your cable and drivers. I purchased the "VX6000" cable from NewEgg, but it doesn't seem like the "official" USB cable for the phone. The packaging was rather nondescript, without LG branding.

As such, I can't tell you whether the drivers you have are the right ones or not, but I can help you figure out if the drivers you have work.

What version of Windows are you using? If it's XP or 2000, then open up the Device Manager and look for the following devices when the phone is connected to your computer:

Under "Modems" I see "LG CDMA USB Modem" and under "Ports (COM & LPT)" I see "LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port Drivers (WDM) (COM5)"

The first one isn't important for BitPim, but the second one is necessary for the software to work. As I said, my cable may be different from yours, so the name of the entry in the Device Manager may differ. The important thing is that it's there.

You may have noticed that "COM5" was part of the device name. That's the virtual serial port the phone is connected to, and is the same port you have to tell BitPim to use.

Does that help?

Hey - Thanks for the posts.

I believe I have installed the correct drivers as I have both the "LGE CDMA USB Modem" under Modems and the "LGE CDMA USB Serial Port (COM4)" under ports.

The error I get when trying to send data in Bitpim is this (I believe):
BrewNoSuchDirectoryException: No such directory

Any others that can offer some help?

BTW - I'm with Bell Mobility in Canada.

Well, it sounds like the cable and drivers are correct, and as long as you have BitPim set up to use COM4 and expect a"LG-VX4500" it *should* work as far as I know.

I do not know the myriad exceptions BitPim can throw, but just from the name that one sounds like your phone lacks a "/brew" directory. Does Bell Mobility offer a Brew-type service for software, similar to USC's EasyEdge or VZW's GetItNow?

If not, I suppose they could have diabled Brew functionality on the phone entirely, thus confusing BitPim when it can't find directories it expects to see on the phone.
