I was finally able to take some pics of mine... i hosted it on a site, i'm just not positive it'll show up with no problems so if it doesn't, let me know.

I'm not very good with reviews so whatever i miss, i'll just answer later if someone else wants to know about something in particular. Also, i've only had the phone the past few days so i haven't been able to figure everything out yet.

First, i'll list the things that bug me...
- on one hand, you can now use the "i" button as an enter button... but now you can't press 'right' to go in a menu, and then 'left' to back out
- external display only has the option of "analog clock" or "digital clock"
- service light is just "on/off"... can't choose colours (it blinks green)
- in mp3 player mode, with phone closed will show equalizer on the oled display, but you can't skip track/pause/stop/etc... you can only adjust the volume
- folder tones are kinda lagged, they go off after the phone's already sitting open/closed
- doesn't come with rs-mmc included
- my index finger ALWAYS rests on the camera lense while browsing the menu
- it's gonna take some getting used to to move thumb up an down between keypad and d-pad
- * and # key might be a pain to some to press because they're sunk in quite a bit deeper than other keys
- when you open the display, you can't rotate it to the right (i wanted to do that, so screen is upright, d-pad in my left hand, and number pad in my right to play the games)

I think that's it... those are just little quirks that bug me, might not even bother others

Now for the stuff that i like so far...
- reception where i live is good, i'd say about as good as the Z600 from where i am right now
- you can use the "i" button as an enter button (in idle it's still wap button of course)
- sound quality is great
- ringtones are LOUD (compared to my old s300, i'd have to say at least as loud, maybe louder)
- photo caller-id
- display is very clear and sharp... like a D410, but the display itself is a bit smaller, hence sharper pixels
- phone is a good size for me, keypad size is excellent as well
- the new grid style menu is much better than standard page/bar style
- mp3 player plays through the phone if you want to use it like a radio or just to show off
- the 3D games built in are fun... especially the golf game
- lots of internal memory (there's about 50mb for photos, videos, mp3s)

That's all i can really think of right now... other things will probably pop up later.
If there's anything you want to know, just ask an i'll try to answer best i can... mind you my connect software doesn't seem to wanna let me upload anything to the phone other than phonebook right now. And i don't have a memory card yet so those questions i won't be able to answer till later. If someone wants to point me in the right direction for an rs-mmc (preferably a 256mb or 512mb stick) that would be great.

Here's some pictures...

How much did you pay for this phone ^^?

Posted by: palladium

thanks for the review! those are some really nice pics!

what does the external display show when making a call or when receiving a call? any cool animations when receiving messages like the s300?

Posted by: skillhata

GOOD REVIEW!
thanks alot for that, it answered a lot of my questions, now i am definetly gonna get a P730 !!
how were u able to put mp3 s on your phone when u dont have a memory card, can you upload them by cable / iRDA?

ALso, Can u set mp3 as ringtones?

Posted by: johnmoon

Unfortunately theres no mp3 ringtone feature on P730
though 64polyphonic still play nice sounds...
hopely samsung remove that stupid limit on their ringtone size...

I will wait for p735 from T-mobile since the price will be
under 500US

Posted by: dkny_boi

Yeah, the outter display has some "cute" animations for incoming calls/sms/mms... i took some pics of a few of them. I personally think they look better than the ones on the s300.

Incoming call...

Incoming sms...

Also, when you have a missed call, or a msg waiting, the 4 leds around the d-pad will light up round an round one by one.

band dude... i paid ~560usd for the phone
skillhata... the mp3 that was showing was already on the phone when i got it... i'm quite sure you can upload it using cable, i'm just still having trouble getting the usb cable fully functional. Not sure if the ringtone limit has been removed, but the phone came with easy studio (instead of easyGPRS) and as far as i understand there's a patch somewhere for easy studio to remove the size limit.

Posted by: skillhata

thanks a lot for the pics and info........AGAIN!
the "moving" ring light sounds really COOL
im dissapointed about not being able to have mp3 ringtones

Posted by: palladium

wow those animations are "cute!" the external display looks really nice.

i'm pretty excited about the p735 now. I don't really care about mp3 ringtones....I think the 64 polyphonic ones sound nice too.

Posted by: eyesonly6587

very nice pics!

if its not too much trouble, can u post some more pics?

thanks

Posted by: dkny_boi

Sure... it wouldn't be much bother... i'm just not sure what else to post? What would you want to see on the phone?

I'd like to try to post photos taken by the phone but i just think this usb cable that came with it doesn't like me at all.

tat sucks , would really love to see how is the quality of the pic....but its ok, when u figure it out, just post it up

so u haf another phone to compare the size of the p730?? esp the thickness? i heard/saw some pics n it seems pretty thick

thanks

Posted by: dkny_boi

Here's the P730 next to some other phones that most are familiar with... moto t731c, samsung a600, se z600, and moto v70 (a non-flip phone)

It's normally not really thicker than the A600/P400 at all, but the antenna is pushing the one side up a bit

GREAT PICS!!could you post some pics when that WKD samsung is in camera mode? and what the displays show when the phone is cahrging

Posted by: dkny_boi

eyesonly6587... I can't really send that pic on the A600 because it was downloaded via wap from telus mobility... and i don't have a cable to download the pic from the phone.

I'll try to post some pics of the camera mode later on, gotta busy weekend coming up.

As for the charging... when the phone's on, the battery indicator doesn't scroll anymore, there's a light on the plug now (normally where the triangle/arrow is) that's red while charging and green when fully charged.

ooo ok...thanks anyways
so jealous of ur p730

Posted by: palladium

how big is the caller ID picture?

Posted by: dkny_boi

It's pretty much the whole display almost...

There's the service bar at the top... then under is a bar of similar size that will say the person's name... then the picture fills the rest, then the bottom service bar with the softkey labels.

Posted by: skillhata

-can u play the mp3 player WITHOUT the headphones?
-does the phone have a speakerphone?

Posted by: dkny_boi

Yes, you can play mp3 "without" the headphones... it'll play through the phone's speaker open, close, internal display facing in or out (and it's pretty clear too)

And no, there's no speakerphone. At least i couldn't find it while in a call.

Posted by: palladium

what happens when there's an incoming call while the mp3 player is playing?

Posted by: dkny_boi

I would assume it pauses or stops the playback to let the call come through, but i wasn't able to get that far with the phone... i've already sold mine.

But for msgs though, the dissapointment was that you can't hear the msg tone, and the only notification you get of an incoming msg is the small sms icon showing up on the top service bar.

Posted by: skillhata

were u able to get ne more pics of da phone?

Posted by: dkny_boi

No i didnt, sorry

Posted by: skillhata

why did u sell the phone exactly? was there something that annoyed u or it lacked (excluding bluetooth) .

Posted by: dkny_boi

Yea, just a couple things though... to some ppl, these probably wouldn't even apply to them:

1) the mp3 player... while playing music, you can't do anything else and set the music to play in the background... when a msg comes in, nothing happens on the phone except for the small icon on the top service bar popping up (i could see my gf getting pretty mad too if i told her to sms me if she needs anything while i'm studying in the library, and i dont notice the msgs hahaha )
but seriously... i found this to be a VERY poor implementation of an mp3 player on the phone... even the old attachable mp3 player for ericsson phones i had way back in the day worked better.

2) it didn't have mp3 ringtones (going from mp3 back to poly, to me, was like going from poly back to mono)... and the size limit of uploaded ringtones was too small if you used the cable. if you downloaded over wap, it was ~100kb, but that still isn't a good size for mp3's converted to mmf

3) this one's just me personally... i just didn't want to buy a mmc card reader... i already have mem stick, so i went w/ the s700i instead for the mem stick, and better mp3 player and ringtones

4) i got so frustrated (and i mean REALLY frustrated) w/ the pc software, i think it was just not meant to be for me... the whole time i had it i NEVER got the phone to connect via cable properly... tried it on all 3 comps in the house... it only let me edit the phonebook, nothing else. i guess it bugged me too, but for the price, it looked just like any ordinary samsung flip phone model out there...

Sorry to rant on an on... but those are the exact and only things that bothered me enuff to drive me to sell it and get something else.

........ just read the thread... i'm sorry, but if u jump in a thread and don't even bother to read a single post (not even the most recent post right before you posted), i'm not gonna bother answering twice

Posted by: bronco

my bad, sorry missed the part. but i dont see a post that says how much you paid for it so how much did you pay for it?

You lied!! you STILL didn't bother to read the ×××× thread yet!!!

Lol.. sorry i couldn't help it, i'm just messing with you... but yes, i did already tell someone how much i paid for the phone.

Posted by: bronco

blek, too many posts :P. besides i was distracted by your pics. they looked too nice.

did you buy it locally or import it? if you imported it is it 560 including shipping?

Posted by: dkny_boi

I had bought it off someone who only used it for a day or two... and yes it was 560usd shipped. Back then the phone was almost 700usd, but now it's dropped significantly... i think the best price i've found now is ~589usd plus shipping for a brand new one.

Posted by: bronco

i found a website selling for 599 plus 39 shipping. found it too ex.
