It shows the number on mine.

It oscillates back and forth for me between verizonwireless and the number. There was a post on how to remove the banner in the verizon forum.

I've never had that on my outside screen. Mine just has the number.

that's the link to the thread which tells how to get rid of the "verizon wireless" banner - it also gets rid of it on the outside display while someone is calling.
someone mentioned that they may have put that banner on the outside to let you know if you were in verizon's network when someone called so that you could determine whether you wanted to answer the phone or not. either way, it sucks and i disabled mine and haven't looked back.
good luck.

Mine just shows the name and number, or just number. I've never seen Verizon Wireless on the outside display either.

THEY WERE THINKING that you might want to know if your were roaming (and perhaps liable for roaming charges) before answering the phone.
Remember that the "Verizon Wireless" that you see on that display is the enhanced roaming indicator. It changes to "Extended Network" or "Roaming" when out of VZW coverage.
