Help with sending keypad tones

OK Experts, here's one I can't seem to find the answer to, and I have searched everywhere...
On my Vox 9900, when I save numbers in a contact to be sent after dialing, such as my home phone number and pin for voice mail access, the tones are not recognized by my voice mail system. If I dial the numbers manually at the proper time, it works fine, but when sent by the phone, even with the proper timing after 2 second pauses, the voice mail system says it can't understand my number. Any suggestions?
