Now that the Sidekick 2 has been out for awhile...SK1 or SK2...let me know

Well I have been interested in the Sidekick ever since I saw it and then when I switched to T-Mobile I never bought one. My question to everyone that has been using the two which one should I get....I am not interested in the camera and everything,...basically I want to surf the web, AIM, check AOL mail, and use the calender.

Which would everyone recommend...I don't think the rf would be a problem in my area but I could be wrong...if anyone has a phone that has comparable rf then I could see everywhere that I go if I would have any problems.

The SK1 is cheaper than the SK2 just about everywhere you look but I just wanted all the Sidekick users to influence my decision. Or if anyone has a SK1 that they would be selling for a good price let me know.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say.

Well, the CSK works. But, it's now (mostly) unsupported, so very few applications will be updated on this device.

The SKII solved many problems that the CSK had. The CSK could not hold a signal. I don't mean that your phone couldn't pick up a signal. I mean that you could have your phone sitting on your desk and it would flip up to 4 bars then go to no signal, then back up. It was very chaotic, but you could deal with it.

One of the other things the SKII has on the CSK is the form factor. If you don't mind big, bulgy phones, then then the CSK is doable. The SKII is very sleak, but longer. Some people say the flipup screen on the SKII is more fragile than the CSK though.

Of course, there are many more buttons that help with operating the SKII. Volume buttons and shoulder buttons. Camera, of course, is okay.

But basic functionality is the same.

wassup.....

for me..
sk2.. no way i'd go back to a csk...

the flip screen i s a bit different but feels more gadgety than toy-like...

but yea, the physical revisions alone got me hooked.. the scroll wheel is way more durable and doesn't stop working after a week of playing Rock and Rocket.. and the trigger buttons are nice for when using the phone to turn on speaker phone..

also the phone itself is tons better.. i can actually hear people and they can hear me wihtout that annoying static..

of course, it costs more and still has its limitations...

but if you like the csk, i'd say the sk2 is a very nice and useful upgrade...

peace

I've never owned a csk, only a sk2, however i've spoken with individuals who've owned both and the only complaints i've heard which you can EASILY learn to adjust to are:

The location of the power jack on the sk2 interferes with typing. (I've learned to kind of wrap my fingers around the power cord so it doesn't bother me at all)

It's longer than the csk (But it's also slimmer, i'll take slimmer over longer anyday)

The spacebar is too short for the added length of the sk2. (I haven't noticed a problem at all with this)

The delete key is where the enter key was on the csk. (doesn't affect me at all, i've never used the csk)

It's near impossible to flip the screen shut with one hand whereas it was cake on the csk. (I love this thing so much, i feel so much more secure using 2 hands to close it. It's my baby)

MY only complaint about the sk2 is it's near impossible to see the ALT keys in the dark. There's no decent backlighting on the blue alt keys. Kind of just have to know where they are or stare really hard at your sk2.

Hope this helps. I can also tell you that I did play with the csk for a few minutes and was like "whatever".. I had the chance to play with the sk2 a few weeks ago and that was enough to make me switch from sprint to t-mo and purchase the sk2. (ALso, the deals on amazon wasn't that bad)
