Click here if you're ready to get one. They're $829 plus S&H.

Says they're in stock. Ordered one myself, so if it comes as promised, I'll be selling my 900.

L Bo:

Could you post your impressions after receiving your unit? I had a hard time deciding between the p910a and the Pda2k - ended up getting the i-Mate. I am interested in what you think of you phone once you get it!

I heard so many stories when the P910a was going to be released, I just gave up and bought the P910i for $777.00 I figured that was a good price for a P910i. LBo, if you want to sell your P900, give me a holla and we'll run through it like reading rainbow.

Not a problem. I expect to be disappointed so that if I end up loving it, it's that much better. The main purpose I'm getting it is for the 850Mhz. Now that Cingular has completed their takeover of ATT, I expect this unit to make all my wildest fantasies come true: 5 bars INSIDE my house!!

zen:

I will be selling it if the 910a proves to be good in the 850Mhz range. I'm gonna be pissed cause of all the games and apps I bought, but if I'm gonna get better coverage, it'll be worth it!!

I'll keep u posted also.

The transition period between Cingular and AT&T has started and will end 6 months from now. This is according to what Cingular said. I guess that means all AT&T 850mhz towers will be renamed to Cingular which shouldn't be hard, then Cingular/AT&T customer roaming etc etc. I think it'll be neat but T-Mobile hasn't done anything wrong for 3.75 out of 4 years and service is awesome. Keep me post LBo....if its in good/excellent condition...friend has a P800 and he needs to get out of it haha.

Posted by: L Bo

As long as you're happy, cool.

I'll take pics when its time to sell. There are 3 scratches from a fall a while back, so I would rate it a good condition. My apps/games would probably make up the price. If not, then I just format and sell.

Where are the 3 scratches? now I'm interested.

Does anyone know it any of the major network providers are going to carry it?

Question, all phones offered by T-Mo seem to be 900, 1800, 1900. The SE site shows the P910a as an 850. Is this correct, and if so will it work with T-Mo network?

It is correct and 850 has better coverage than the 1900 most carriers use. The 910a is not the only phone SE has that uses the 850 spectrum.

Not as of yet.

On the corners of the phone. I'll probably start taking pics today in preparation of selling it.

I went on SE's NA website. It said it supported Wap 2.0, GPRS and HSCSD and that's it. I looked everywhere else and didn't see EDGE networks supported for the P910a.

I did the same but on the SE site it does mention High speed data? Not too sure what they mean by that?

**shakes carmovies outta dream**

There is no EDGE in the P910a. Maybe they have CLIFF.

Posted by: L Bo

GET READY FOR THIS PEOPLE!!

SE is taking EXTREME precautionary measures to keep the fraud purchases down to a minimum. I had to prove (by fax) I am "L Bo" in order to get my phone. They aren't taken any shorts this go around. So unless you're on the up and up, don't expect SE to send you their precious P910a. :laughs:

Kudos SE!!

Posted by: mclaughlinc

Has anyone who ordered one on the SE sites received notice that it has shipped?

Posted by: L Bo

I suggest you call. They dont seem to follow up like they say. I happened to call since I saw no response. After I was approved, the site shows my tracking # and give me the status on FedEx's site. Before 10:30 am tomorrow I will have it!!

BTW, they are open 9-5pm EST M-F.

Posted by: bestjudge

Just called they say "Iam sorry but i cant find your order in the computer, please call back later" what a ×××××××× !!!!!!! 48 hours and they cant find order and i cant even cancel.Got to call credit company......

That sure does suck azz. Got mine this am. As stated the keypad is quite flimsy, BUT the 850Mhz makes up for the difference!! Ah yes, 4 whopping bars on Cingular Direct now!! No Extend!!

Posted by: haywood

yeah when i tried calling in the order they told me i need a fax, so since i didnt have one i purchased it online to just "check" the agreement box, but........

once i entered my info, it was declined and told me to contact my CC company. the funny thing was at the same moment i was going to dial my CC company's #...... they actually called me first.

the operator asked for me and then wanted to inform/verify that I was actually the one trying to charge the large amount online.

after i verified, she said to retry the transaction again once we get off the phone bcus she was authorizing it. i was totally surprised by how good/fast my credit card company was at monitoring that kind of stuff.

NOW back to my point for the guy who stated his order was NOT found..... you have to call the customer service number that is on your "order status" page. i called them after the same BS that they told you, bcus that number contacts the verification center directly and they are teh ones who are verifying your info.

they'll just ask for your last name to look it up bcus they use a different order number than the regular SE reps. (he even stated how SE is dragging their asses on getting everyone on the same page)

so hang in there, cus i just ordered mine on sunday night and mine is scheduled to be here on thursday by 4:30pm. *grins*

Posted by: bestjudge

Listen i just called No order number ,no phone number ,no my name in there computer .I will wait one more day before i call credit company.

Cingular is great in my area ,full service everywhere. How long did it take you from date u placed your order till they got it shipped?

Posted by: typ356

Been using my P800 since Aug 03.
ETA to P910a, Nov. 4, 04

Posted by: haywood

from the day order was placed until date of arrival = 4 days (and thats with 3-day shipping).

Posted by: philosophy72

so does SE have the phone and are they shipping cause i pre ordered one and want to be one of the lucky ones like Lbo to weld it to my hands. I also checked with expansys and they told me that they do not charge sales tax for the order which makes it cheaper than se with the same overnight delivery

L Bo!

Congratulations! Ahhh yes, I dream of the day where I get more than 1 or 2 bars...!

Total coincidence: I've put the 910a out of my mind- I just got tired of waiting. Then tonight, my wife dragged me kicking and screaming to get some Japanese food for take out (not my personal favorite, sorry sushi lovers!)

But there was a silver lining: Some woman waiting for her order was holding a P900 in her hand, blue light blinking away. I've never seen a P900 live before. I thought to myself: Hey, that's not a bad size! I always thought it was much bigger!

L Bo, please Nit Pick for me! Give us your thoughts and impressions! If you've read my rantings over on the Cingular forum, you know I'm really particular about sound quality and RF holding power!

Again, congrats on your new gem! I'm happy for you!

Posted by: haywood

yes "philosophy" SE does have the p910a's and have been shipping them out since like the last couple days of October.

i order mine on sunday night, oct 31st (online) then they got the order monday morning, processed it (even tho no one at SE could find the order until i contacted the authorization/verification dept)

then they told me on monday evening that it was verified, approved, processed, packaged, awaiting fedex pick-up........ and i will arrive in 3 days before 4:30pm.

then later that monday night i got a fedex tracking# emailed to me.

and yes, expansys did not charge me sales tax on my old p900 even tho i am in California, but you will be getting a p910i (having the GSM 900 band) and SE offers you the p910a for better use in the Americas with the GSM 850 band.

the tax SE charged me was just about $50. the shipping for 3day was like $9.

also remember that even though there is no tax charges from expansys... they are asking $849 compared to SE's $829... so really the 50 in tax is REALLY 30 in tax once you subtract the difference that expansys is charging.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Sometimes when I get OEM unbranded phones, I get stung with carrier incompatability... the biggest two being:

1) Voicemail message waiting indicator incompatability: I had a V60 and a Sharp GX20 that couldn't handle Cingulars VMI. I'd get cryptic SMS messages instead.

2) Can't adjust GPRS/WAP settings.

Does the OEM version (or the one from Expansys) of the P910a have these issues on Cingular?

Posted by: haywood

i cant speak for the OEM phone brands/models that you had problems with, on cingular..... but as for my expansys-bought p900, i had nooo problems with cingular voicemail or wap.

i do not expect my SE-purchased p910a for the americas, to be any different.

worst case scenario: i think you may have to get the wap settings from cingular. but i remember just getting them online and configuring.

(hopefully! lol)

Posted by: philosophy72

thanks for the reply haywood. i also live in calif.(so cal) would you know the number wher i could contact and ask them if they have even considered me. because there's probably a long list of people before me on the pre order.

help i need mee phone

Posted by: haywood

no problem Philosophy...... heres the number that was listed on my SE tracking page. they were teh ones who were able to tell me the status on my order. the regular CS# had people who couldnt tell me squat!

so heres the number to the SE order verification/authorization dept:

"If you have any questions please contact us at 1-866-837-7290"

Posted by: philosophy72

thanks for the info haywood i called customer care and they had no info on my pre order. yet when i tried the number u gave me they said that someone at customer care forgot to turn in the fax they send to me to sign. u know so that s why they had not send it to me. anyways i should get it tomorrow along with my 2 512mb sticks.thanks for all the help . I guess now i look to sell my converted p900.

Posted by: haywood

lol, good to hear "phil" ..... as for me i just got my p910a this morning and have been configuring it ever since.

i must say it is and looks alot better than i thought. i was thinking the p900 is better looking but when i sat them next to each other i just liked the p910a even tho i didnt want to.

i think it is mainly because of the color: i thought they were the same color but jsut different color backlit keypad. but the p910a is still silver on the sides , but the main color is this "gun-metal" type of gray and it has a smoother piantjob finish. it actually looks more "expensive" regardless of it losing the chrome keys and the nice blue backlight!

also, jsut like everyone else who got one... the qwerty keypad is so much better than expected. its deceiving, but i was able to type so ×××× quick on that thing (as far as keypressing goes).

i can tell just enough that the screen is a bit better (brighter and a tad more vivid). the phone look overall (i.e. flip open/closed, flip being wider making it seem not as long, "gunmetal finish color, color matched metal-ish earpiece) just is so much better than what i was thinking.

so im pleased with it, as you will be too.... once its actually in your hands (cus it will surprise you).

as for my p900... it is anxiously being waited for, once my fiance comes up on saturday.

Posted by: L Bo

I kinda feel the same way haywood does. I initially didnt want to get it, but the 850Mhz sealed the deal. The color is MUCH hotter than I expected, but as did the P900, has the squeak when you squeeze right near the memory stick slot. :laughs:

I hated the P900 flip and removed it instantly. The 910a has a nice white backlight, the keys are nice and big (since I have big fingers), so I whip thru 2ways like a son-of-a-×××××!! The qwerty board doesnt like me. I've decided to keep it on because it just gives the phone a much better look closed.

Sound quality seems to be as good as the 900. No complaints there. The screen on the 910a is MUCH BRIGHTER then the 900. There is no way you cant tell the difference. The status lights are longer, but thinner. Cant figure out why they did they that, but whatever.

There is a feature I'm toying with that allows you to move your msgs to a separate folder. Not sure if it goes to internal memory or optioned to external. Either way, its great!!

There are still a few more things to try and I may pick up my 1GB card this weekend. I'll keep you guys posted. If there is anything you wanna ask, feel free.

BTW, bestjudge I took the overnight shipping. Confirmed the order Monday, got it Tuesday am.

Posted by: haywood

right on, L Bo.... i think most p910a buyers feel like we do.

i guess my fingers are pointy then, cus i can use the touch screen w/ my finger tips almost as good as with the stylus. (swear)

tho it did take some time to get used to aiming with my fingertip, cus i used to always hit just below where i always aimed, then my fingers just adjusted over time! lol.

yeah i bought a sandisk version 512mb MS Duo Pro from newegg.com for 81.00 but mwave.com had them for like 76.00 just the other day. i figer 512 is four times larger than my old 128mb for my p900... so it was adeqaute until the 1 and 2 gig Duos go down in price.

anyhow.... its off to experiment some more with the p910.

good lookin out fellas.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

How is the audio quality on the P910a?

Namely:

1) GSM buzz? You know, that "buz buz buz buz buz" sound you can sometimes hear if the RF signal is weak or if you're in a quiet room?

2) Background noise: Any hissing like a poorly-recorded audio cassette?

These are real deal-breakers for me. I'd hate to plunk down the $$$ only to be let down!

Posted by: haywood

ill tell you Andy, my old p900 would normally have 1 maybe 2 bars (seldom 3) on average in my bedroom. partially due to the fact that i live on the coast, about 5 mins from the beach... (not too many towers this far out).

but once i powered on my p910.... 3-4 bars average (occasionally drops to 2 bars for like a second, but then again on occasion hits 5 bars!) i assume the 850 coverage is the stronger signal, but still...... its 5 freaking bars!

my fiance tells me that she doesnt hear the gsm buzz (nor do i) at all and she says im louder and clearer than on my p900, kinda of like a landline phone.

but that does have one little drawback.... the additional frequency its pulling in for the better signal does draw a little bit more power than my p900.

i believe since i barely pull a signal in my house, it resorts to the 850 band when im at home. its not as bad when im out, so i would estimate about a 5 percent faster drain when in my room.

but other than, seeing it being able to hit a full 5 green bars in my room is a sight for sore eyes! hope this info helps out.... i say if your in california (or the US for that matter) the extra signal is d*mn good!

I'm really looking into buying my first symbian phone coming from a treo 600 I find it that alot of people really seem to dig more the p900/910 then the treo 600. The treo 600 has been great but I like the fact that p910 has a bigger screen and finaly supports more than 128 memory stick. Also a big plus since i use the keyboard alot. I'm sure the treo 600 can't be beat by its 5 way navigation witch makes taking out the stylus usless.

How do u find the manuvering through the phone menus? are they quick and well thought in making it easy or do you constantly have to take out the stylus? I also have concerns regarding Tmobile. Since like a previous post mention that tmobile doesn't run on 850 does it mean that the p910a won't make a difference on tmobile but it will on cingular and A&tt? I find i can get the p910i cheaper but what do u recommend on a tmobile network down here in miami fl.

Thanks

Posted by: L Bo

First, I'd say hit the Tmo forums here and see what the natives have to say about 850. Also check out if Tmo has any phones they sell with 850 (usually a good indication if they're serious about implementing it). Then and only then would I consider going with Tmo using the 910a. I have a Tmo sim in my p900 and compared it to cingular and to be honest, cingular blows tmo outta the water in my house which has a similiar problem to haywoods (I live on a tree lined block).

Since I received my p910a ( I call her cutie), I only whip out the stylus for something that requires that the flip be open (deleting muliple emails, sms and mms). The good thing about the short cuts on the phone is that you can pick which ones you use frequently and have them instantly available. I never used the jog dial so much before.

On a side note: I dont like that I need to open the flip to create an email. I'd like to be able to whip that out and get to typing (as previously stated, my fingers are too big for the tiny keyboard).

Until haywood mentioned it, I couldnt figure out why my battery would drain so fast!! That 850 gets work around these parts!! :laughs:

Getting the 910i would only be a plus if you travel alot. If you spend alot of time here in the US, then stick with the p910a.

I've heard people complain about a buzzing in the treo 600, but I've never had that problem with the 900 or the 910. The only problem I've heard is network related (wind like sound during silence or something relative).

Hope this helps, good luck with your choice.

Posted by: doug0365

Well I finallly took the plunge and went ahead ane bought the sony p910a coming from a treo 600 i know its going to be a bit of trouble getting used to the symbian os but I'm willing to take the challenge since I've heard how great the p900/p910 are.

My question to you is what are your recommened essential softwares to put on my new p910 L bo? I should be getting it tomorow.

Thanks for your help L Bo

Posted by: mclaughlinc

I will also be receiving my P910a tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to the 850 MHz support.

Posted by: dr.RW

This is my first post on the forum, though I have been lurking for a while deciding what phone I should buy. I finally decided on the P910a, which should arrive tomorrow, to use on Cingular. I was wondering what the differences are between the MEdiaWorks package and the unlimited data package on Cingular as far as internet access, particularly accessing web mail on secure servers.

I can sign up for MEdiaWorks now but don't want to if it will significantly limit the sites I can visit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Posted by: L Bo

Congrats to all of you. You are in an exclusive club.

dr. RW, I have mediaworks strictly for the 1500 sms/200 mms. The unlimited internet is a plus. As far as I can see, there are no restrictions.

Also to all of you who havent used a p800/900 before, i highly recommend checking out the "important information" sub forum. There are alot good threads about questions you're gonna have (provider settings and such). The FAQ forum has good stuff also.

Anything not covered there can be asked here.

Once again, good luck and enjoy your babies!

Posted by: dr.RW

Thanks L Bo,

That is exactly what I wanted to find out. Now I guess I have one more question to which I'm pretty sure I already know the answer.

I should register for MEdiaWorks for my T637 and then just switch the SIM to the P910a, right? I mean Cingular will not let me use the MEdiaWorks package if I register with a P910A, right?

Thanks again.

R

Posted by: L Bo

To be honest, they dont know what a p910a is, much less the 900. Order away.

Posted by: haywood

yeah dont worry about switching your sim/internet to your new phone with cingular.

they really dont care what phone you switch to... ive switched my sim to my p910 from my p900 and the internet switched over fine. (they still thought i was using my samsung s307 from 2 years ago, since they dont know the IMEIs my p9xx's have).

you might have to configure settings in your p9xx tho.... which i had to do both in my p900 and my p910a. i have the dialup WAP service tho that just uses my minutes rather than per/kb charge.

but yeah i also signed up my fiance's account with the same dialup WAP service to her account and then it worked fine in my old p910 with her sim in there. all the old settings were still intact.

so it should work just switching your sim over to your p910a, but i am not sure wether you will have to configure the settings in your p910a because im not familiar with GPRS and if it is automatically default or if it needs setup.

and also.... CONGRATS to all with their p910a's.

welcome to the wonderful world of GSM 850!

Posted by: philosophy72

well i can finally input on the p910a it is all that is said to be according to Lbo. My first observation the brightness on the screen. it is also better than the one on the upgraded p900 that i have.

The one thing that stands apart from all is the better signal i have been having all day. I noticed in certain areas where i work i had no signal and now i have been floating on full signal or almost full signal everywhere i go. With att&t my internet is connection is alot faster also. This is what i call well worth it. Its worth buying the phone just for the 850 band that has given me satisfaction.

P.S. SE for life

Posted by: doug0365

How has your experience been with the built in flip keyboard? Is it a gimmik? or is it acutallly usefull. I will be getting mines this after noon and coming from a treo 600 I chose the p910 for its keyboard input. I have heard mixed reviews about the keybaord but I think its a plus for people that rather use a thumboard than the hand writing recognition.

Thanks

Posted by: haywood

keyboard (as stated in previous posts) is quite functional compared to what most people's initial thoughts were.

it is small and narrow, but the keys are not flat. they are actually "domed" shape from side to side, which makes hitting the incorrect key even less possible.

as LBo stated in one of his posts, people with (no offense) "fatter" fingers may have more difficulty using the keypad. i, by no means, have skinny fingers but its actually very easy for me to use the keyboard AND the touch screen accurately using fingers only.

the main thing is to get used to somewhat "pointing" fingers (or thumbs, for the keypad) almost "straight-up-and-down" rather than trying to press flat-ly or flat-ish.

also, the keyboard (even tho it is still a tad shaky) is substantially more stable than the p900. you may feel uneasy when holding the phone by the keypad, but its a slim chance for it to snap off.

the trick i do is to hold the flip keypad in-between my thumbs/middle-fingers (which are curled in and pressed up against [L-side/R-side] each other flatly, making a surface for the keypad to lay flat. then the index fingers are touching tips, holding up the phone itself..... then i use the thumb tips to press keypad.

kinda hard to explain, but the phone feels 100% supported.

hope this helps....... lates.

Posted by: doug0365

WEll its finally here!!! All I can say right now is WOW The phone looks really nice and the keyboard seems to be very good. It does feel a bit flimsy at first and I hope the lid doesn't break off hehehe.. The first time i open up contacts or any apps it took a while is this normal?

Also I'm debating between handy 2005 or tracker? any recomendations.

thanks

Posted by: dr.RW

I just got my P910a this morning and I am amazed. The screen is brilliant and the keyboard is great and eminently usable, so much better than I had anticipated. It is truly an amazing device, I've already had several people stop me to ask about it and several of my employees are already jealous.

Thanks to L Bo and Haywood for convincing me that I was making the right decision. I can't wait to try out some web browsing tonight when I get home from work.

Posted by: doug0365

Well let the problems beging..

I was able to synchronize all my stuff with outlook beutifuly but now for some reason the phone is not dectected. It says that its connected but i can't synchronize or install
apps.. help!!

Posted by: haywood

no problem Dr.RW .......... i guess L-Bo and I's super scheme to brainwash all non-p9xx owners to come to the darkside has begun!!!!! (evil laugh)

lol j/k..... but yeah welcome to the club RW, and hopefully your internet isnt giving you any of those problems you were worrying about.

===================

and to Doug.... i dont think anything is wrong with your phone cus i have had that happen to me on my p900 before and i had to restart PCsuite, better yet... the computer (possibly the phone too) and all should be fine when you try to connect the phone. something just goes all out-of-whack sometimes, as technology does no matter how perfect it seems.

so just restart both and re-cradle it again and all should be right in the world. if that doesnt do it then re-install pc suite, i guess! heheheh lol.

Posted by: doug0365

Well i got it to work again but its strange that alot of people seem to be running into this problem. So far I'm loving the phone.. My friend next two me is purchasing the treo 650 and I feel the p910 beats it!

So far I have installed

Tracker
Agile messanger
Opera
sman

Any other must essentials?

Ok, you guys rock...and so does this phone! I haven't kept a phone for more than 3 months yet....but this one is a keeper. I set up all my mms and e-mail using the attws site and all is working great.

This phone is so much faster and more responsive than any of the moto phones I have had. I'll have some newb questions I'm sure, just wanted to say thanks

well my must-have apps for my p9xx's are:

Agilemessenger - an all messengers program than now has ability to send photos/voice msgs. oh and its FREE!!!!

Emame - a Mame32 arcade emulator for the p9xx (i have pacman, donkey kong, Mr.Do, Nintendo Ping Pong, and Galaga so far)

PicoDrive - a Sega Genesis emulator (i only got this for Toe Jam & Earl, but there are alot more roms i havent tried)

MGS VR Pool 2 - one of the best looking AND playing, 3D pool games that ive seen on a handheld.

Sky Force - a top-down view, forward scrolling airplane shooter game, like 1943.

Tags Tanks - army action scroller game in the MS Age of Empires/Diablo view.

Tracker 4 - an app that gives you a new theme/desktop interface for UIQ.

Sman - an all around task manager utility, that i use mainly for its file manager and for flushing tasks that are running in background.

---other than that i would suggest Opera Browser, V-Rally, Unreal Player. LASTLY...........(this is for your PC tho)

Mpegable X4 - for all those full movie quality ripping needs! (in my opinion the best thing about the p9xx's is watching good qualty movies on the go) right now on my 512mb i have matrix reloaded and good fellas in VW's mpegable quality settings.

darn you all!

I want a P910a! I gotta justify the cost.. and my second problem is I'm so picky about build quality, dust under the screen, audio buzzing and noise, etc... any one of these would kill it for me!

At the moment, is going thru the SE website for "pre order" the only way to go?

Posted by: haywood

yeah, at least thats the route that we all went to get ours....

Congrats to all who've received and enjoying their new units. When I get a sec, I'll host a pic of my current wallpaper.

There wasnt a pre-order status. I ordered, they sent it. Except for the confirmation status, went smooth as silk.

Posted by: MotoBlowz

Just to let you guys know....(I'm not endorsing anyone) I paid 730.00 plus shipping for mine from ebay. Had it the next day.

I just can't say enough how much I love this phone. I REALLY liked the Nokia... I love this one. My wife is soooooo pisssed that I spend so much money on phones so I had to swear to her I'll keep this one for a bit (when is the next Pxxxx gonna arrive )

Moto

Posted by: haywood

haha moto....

well yeah continuing from my previous post, that is the way that we all went to get ours thru SE, but im not sure if this clears up the "pre-order" thing.

the SE site had stated (i dont know if its still stated) on the "add to cart" screen: ->pre-order

then once i selected it and went to checkout... under status it said "in-stock" which made me think even tho they were in stock, that they would still hold off shipping until mid-november like the site stated.

that wasnt the case. i ordered my p910a Sunday night, Oct.31 and it was processed and shipped out late Monday afternoon 3day FedEx. (but they couldnt find the order until i finally called the SE# on my tracking page, later that evening and it already shipped)

so to clarify: it does state (or did state) "pre-order" on the site, but once you add it to your cart and checkout... you should see under status "in-stock" (as long as theyre not backordered) and it should ship out with whatever shipping you chose.

Man now for some reason my calendar isn't synching with outlook2003. The intial synchronization went fine but its not working anymore. Any ideas?

Posted by: L Bo

Always reboot the phone, then then the pc is necessary.

Posted by: dr.RW

I signed up for the MEdiaWorks package and seemingly configured the P910a correctly, according to the info I could find. However, when I try to go to a web page using the internet browser I get a message saying activation rejected. What does that mean and what do I do now?

Thanks,
R

Posted by: L Bo

Did you use the settings sent from the Cingular site, as posted in the important info sub forum?

Posted by: MadManMike

I posted a question similar to this on the Cingular Forum. I was reading the fine print on the rate plan brochure and it states that phones using certain operating systems, Symbian is included, are not eligible to use the net access provided by MEdia works. I was asking if this meant that it would not work on the p910a, or it just meant that if they know you are going to use this phone, they won't let you sign up for MEdia plans?

There have been 50 views of my question over there and no reaponses so far.

That would suck, as the main reason I went for this phone (it arrives Saturday) was do be able to do some web surfing on it.

So everytime I want to synchronize i have to reboot the phone and restart the pc? When you mean reboot the phone you mean turn on/off phone right?

So far this phone is great... Just getting used to the form factor and getting used to tracker since i hear is better then handy. Whats your oppinion on that.

Posted by: doug0365

Well I finally figured out what was wrong. Since I basically sync my calendar at work we mostly use lotus notes for our email client and the last thing I did was I changed my default email client from outlook to lotus notes in the interent explorer programs settings. I din't realize that outlook had to be your default until i had search multiple forums and finaly i saw someone suggest that. So I changed it back to outlook and boom everything is working great again.

Thank goodness I was going crazy over here!

Posted by: haywood

mad man mike,

i dont think that is correct due to the fact that i have had a p900 aaand now a p910a and have had the MEdia net internet services on both.

manually configured both of them too. i dont have any problems connecting to the internet with either phone as with any other of these p910a owners that have the cingular MEdia internet also.

so i am not sure exactly what cingular brochure your looking at because on the cingular site it doesnt state anything like that anywhere on the MEdia Internet area.

the phones do work with cingular MEdia net.... so dont worry about that. hope this helps.

Posted by: dr.RW

I have solved the problem with my connection. It was a matter of mis-typing the username. I typed in cingulargpr.com instead of cingulargprs.com.

I'm glad it was something so trivial, but admitting it was tough to swallow.

Everything works great now. I just have to get a VPN client so I don't have to use webmail to get my mail, its just too slow. Any recommendations? Also what is the best email program for the P910? I'm trying Reqwireless' emailviewer, but am more than open to suggestions.

Posted by: codemonkey

I was teetering on upgrading my P800 with a P910 until I read this thread this morning. So I called up SE and ordered one.

They tell me I have to go through some credit verification thing to prevent fraud but that it usually doesn't take very long. I thought that was cool. I paid for it along with overnight shipping so I could have it tomorrow. I called back at 2pm and 3:40 pm est and it still hadn't passed verification and of course the lady on the fone informs me that if it doesn't get out by 4pm then I won't get it tomorrow. I'm so pissed that I paid for overnight now but of course knowing my luck it would have passed through verification twice as fast if I hadn't.

Anyway, I'm salivating for my fone to arrive and I thought I commiserate with some people that understand my pain

Maybe I'll get lucky and thier computer's just hadn't updated.

Posted by: haywood

yeah it will prolly be verified the same night as long as your shipping info is exaclty like your billing info on your credit card that you used.

my verification was finished the same day, but the regular SE customer service dept doesnt see that.

like i suggested to another hofo member is to call the # on the SE tracking info page. they are the department that handles the verification and can tell you the status of your order.

when i tried the regular SE customer service they could not find my order what so ever.

then when i tried the # on the SE tracking page they explained that the regular SE customer service goes off a different system and they do not see the order that the verification dept does.

so i venture to guess that it will be verified same day (if your order info matches and it was early enough in the day) and it should ship out that evening.

hold tight.... the p910a will make up for the anxious waiting.

Posted by: MotoBlowz

How much are you guys paying from Sony? Looks like the prices may be going down some places.

Moto

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Where have you seen lower prices on the P910a?

Posted by: haywood

i just went with SE since they were one of the cheapest considering every other place i saw them they asked anywhere from 899.00 to 1000.00!

even expansys is asking 849.00 compared to SE's 829.00 (note one is the 910i and other is 910a)

plus i feel better getting it direct from SE, i dont mind paying the extra 30 or 40 dollars for my own piece of mind.

someone even posted that ebay had them for 729.00 or something, but i would be thinking about where it came from or if anything was changed or tampered with. (not saying that is the case, but im picky like that)

Posted by: MotoBlowz

I bought mine on Ebay for 730.00 and it was sealed and fine....been watching the price come down with the larger phone dealers there. I also read somewhere that Cingular may offer it at sometime? Anyone else heard that?

Moto

Posted by: MadManMike

Got mine off Ebay for $759.00, FedEx ground included. Plus offered HBH600 for $59.95 and freee shipping on it too with 910 purchase.

Factory sealed box, etc.

I have been using Ebay since 1999, you just have to be as careful as you can and do all the checks and ask all the questions before you choose a seller. Still no garuntee, but I have had good success there.

Well I checked with SE this morning and it didn't past verification before 4 so now I have to wait ALL weekend to get my fone. So much for overnight shipping.

P910-less in Virginia.

Posted by: haywood

yeah thats the part i mentioned in my post about "if it was early enough in the day"....

first part of the early morning should give them ample time to verify, but circumstances can arise. you can never be 100% with shipping.... which is why my post was riddled with the words "guess, should, prolly (probably)"

thats probably why i just went 3day.... cus 1 extra day isnt that bad compared to paying for overnight and having to give an extra day (or days in your case).

Posted by: L Bo

I've stuck & renamed this thread. I think this is more appropriate. Sorry haywood, yours wasnt getting the attention I think it deserved.

I've noticed a major issue. Microsoft has revoked my Belkin Bluetooth license and practically insist that I use the windows version. It seems this is the only way I can connect to my phone via BT. I believe this happened once I upgraded to service pack 2. Drity bastids!!

lol...... thx for the consideration and no need to apologize, L-Bo. you're the moderator so i believe you do what you think is best for the forum, bro. keep up the good work.

ps - anyone notice that the p910a is the sh*t?? hahha....

i am going to buy one actually, but first i must know if i load a lot of movies inside the unit is the video gonna be crystal clear and in full screen? is the program "smartmovie" (wich is a symbian .sis file) will work on a p910i?

thx guys and let me know

Just wanted to get onto this thread... picked up my P910a yesterday and yeah... it's good

Only problem I've had so far is setting up the PC suite for it...

Posted by: doug0365

Is there way to set a specific tone when you receive an voice mail on the p910. I'm currently use t-mobile and when i get notifed that i have a voice message by text message. How can i differnce the both to use a seperate tone?

Thanks

Posted by: L Bo

Thats been an issue for T-Mo users for a long time. cmc0 actually got it setup so that it gives him the alert that he has a vm instead of it arriving as a text. You would need to contact t-mo to have them setup the vm indicator.

Now, to change the sounds, you need to go under sounds and alerts in the control panel. The rest is self-explanatory.

Posted by: doug0365

So contact T-mo and tell them that I want to turn on voicemail indicator right? any specif words that i should use?

Posted by: L Bo

Those should do, if they know how to do it.

That would be a separate isolated issue. You running XP? Pack 1 or 2? Sometimes re-booting helps.

I'm interested in the 910, but I don't want to lose sight of the fact that the most important thing about these devices to me is the phone. I currently have att service and a nokia 6230b. The rf on this phone is outstanding, but it lacks many of the additonal features the 910 has. Previously I had a SE 630 and its rf was terrible. Should I expect better out of the 910a?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Posted by: haywood

IMHO......i think the p910a blows anything nokia has out of the water.

i mean yeah maybe certain nokia models have things the p910a doesnt but overall i think nokias "bite" (i used to be an avid nokia buyer)

i think the overall quality is good but i think nokias are just decent qualities put into one good package. reception were the best about nokias i can remember about , but by no means is the p910a reception any less as good.

when i compare my p910a to my old p900..... i get around 50% more signal. in areas where my p900 used to be at 1 maybe 2 bars, my p910a gets 4 maybe 5 bars. even inside of large department stores that used to give me no signal, i get a good signal. i chalk it up to the 850GSM band that it picks up now, unlike the previous p-series.

you know tho, while writing this i just remembered...... you had a T-Mo sig on your profile, huh. well if you are going to use in on T-Mo, i dont believe they use the 850GSM band for additional signal.

if you plan to jump on the cingular/at&t merger bandwagon.... it will be the best choice you can make right now, coverage wise.

hopefully some of the other well-informed p910a owners here will give you more info on it. hope i helped.

[PS] - and the p910a is about the most "phone-ish" looking phone/pda out there.

Posted by: L Bo

haywood, he actually said he has att, so that 850 will do him just fine.

douglasm, if you had good signal with att before, then the 910a will just add to that. I concur with haywood about the p900's rf. Not even close to the 910a since that 850 kick much anus.

I've discovered yet another SE issue. When I connect my phone to the pc and look to "explore" my pc's drives and files, SE has it labelled as a P910i, then once I click on the icon, the sub-folder says p910a. Veddy veddy interesting....

I might end up having to buy a P910i so that I can have it working on European and some Asian networks.

My question is: What am I losing right here in the US? Is 850MHz coverage a must? How limited is 1900 MHz coverage? Can I get by with P910i (900/1800/1900) or must I have a P910a (900/1800/1900)?

I plan to be close to metro areas most times, but, for those who know northern California, I do drive between San Jose and Redding/Chico and would like the phone to work on Hwy880/680/80/505/and 5.

Any experiences?

Tkanks in advance!

Here in Northern California, 1900 MHz has been the norm for Cingular for years. With the recent AT&T merge, 850 is supposed to be available, or at least, slowly being made available to us Cingular customers.

So, you can use a P910i up here. For the time being, 1900 MHz is more prevalent in the SF Bay Area.

L Bo - PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am dyin' here! I recently bought the Pda2k but I cannot stop lusting after the p910a! Could you talk about your impressions - in more detail - with this phone? Is the device stable? Do you find enough software to satisfy your needs? What do you love about it? Hate about it? I wonder if the keyboard is easier to use than the Pda2k. It has no backlight - correct? Is the screen size useful?

My main dislike with the Pda2k is the size. For a pda it is great - for a phone it is big. The BT situation is not stable and I am finding that I really don't use wifi much as I am connecting to the net thru my BT dongle on my pc.

BTW, I am in Northern California and ATTWS has improved dramatically since they have turned on 850 Mhz. At least in my area.

I would so greatly appreciate your thoughts! And from anyone else that would care to comment!

Posted by: L Bo

After reading about your other choice, sounds like you've already talked yourself into get one.

Posted by: bradleybang

bugladydi,

newbe to this forum as I was lurking for a month and this board put me over the edge.

Well got my P910a last Friday direct from SonyEricsson site. Charged and snapped in the ATT SIM and All worked seemlessly.

I work in East Bay and live in Marin. Service is Excellent. Mostly picking up 850 tower as phone is reading ATT most of the time. I guess when phone says cingular its picking up Cingular 1900. I even drove to Napa and Sonoma this weekend and had better service than ever.

Internet worked immediately. I thought I would need something set up but I already had service on my T616. So maybe Sim settings the same.

Posted by: bradleybang

continued...
I had major issues with Oulook sync with bluetooth XP SP1 and T616.

New P910a Outlook Sync via USB with XP SP2 was flawless.
I am behind corporate firewall and this sometimes causes major headbanging but not this time.

Took the bluetooth dongle home and plugged it in my XP SP2 laptop and again flawless. slightly slowerer on drag and drop of music and pictures.

Ok so you want an issue. Well the media player will play itunes m4a files but you can not use them as a ring tone. Must be mp3 or wma.

First immpression. If you have the $$ buy it. I was not a fan of Sony products before this. My thoughts changed dramatically.

Posted by: L Bo

And so another satisfied testimonial!

*organ music* Anyone else?! C'mon down and testify to glory of the P910a!! :laughs:

Posted by: bugladydi

Bradleybang:

Thanks for the input! I ordered the dang thing and will have it tomorrow! Might as well stop fighting the inevitable! Your comments are very encouraging!

The Pda2k is a great piece of equipment, no doubt. I just don't like the size much. To me, it is a pda first and a phone second. I really want something that is a phone first and I think (hope!!)the p910 will do it for me. I guess I will find out tomorrow!

ATT thinks I have a T616 too so perhaps I will have as good as luck as you with the net connections!

I have lots of wma tones as the Pda2k cannot play mp3 ringtones so I've got it covered in that dept.

L Bo:

When you are right you are right! I already talked myself into it (not too hard to do though!!)!

All I can say is thank god for Visa and eBay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonP910a/R2A SEMC-Browser/Symbian/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

Well I hope u love it. This reply is from the P910a.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Darn you, bradley! You make me jealous!

I live in the East Bay, and I have no CLUE if I can use 850 MHz because of my ancient V60gi phone.

Since you're a noob here, I gotta ask you the same I ask everyone else: How do you like the P910a's earpiece incoming call audio quality? I played with a possible smartphone contender the other day at the store (treo 600) and boy, the earpiece audio had lots of hiss... like listening to an old cassette tape.

$799 is a lotta dough for a hissy phone! I hope it isn't.

Posted by: bugladydi

Wireless Andy:

In my opinion the Treo 600 is not worth the money - at ANY price. I had to get rid of it due to lots of problems: call quality was awful, hardware was unstable, total crashes (permanent) - I have read that ALOT of people experienced similar problems with it. I hope the 650 proves to be much better!

I am in the South Bay (Morgan Hill/Gilroy) and ATT has dramatically improved their service down here within the last 6 months or so. I believe 850 Mhz is what has caused the change. Prior to that, I had horrible coverage here - particularily in the mountains. Everyone complained how awful it was to use my cell phone! Now I get four bars - in my house - downstairs (which is going down the side of a large hill) in the mountains. We get no Verizon signal at all in the house. Amazing!

If the service is this good down here, I would think it would be better in the East Bay!

I get the p910a today and I am looking forward to trying it out. Other threads have commented that callers can hear alot of back ground noise so I am anxious to check it out.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

bugladydi,

Last Sunday, I visited my brother in-law in San Jose. I can never get a signal in his house. Maybe one bar, MAYBE two if I stand on my head while wiggling my toes. This is with a V60gi (no 850).

On the other hand, my brother in-law's AT&T Samsung X426 (cousin to the Cingular X427) was able to get a nice, stable signal of at least 4 bars out of 5 (I think it's 5 on an X426, maybe 6 bars?)

Okay, enough of that... when you get your P910a, let us know what you think, and see if you can hear excessive/noticable hissing or noise in the background of your incoming calls that isn't a part of normal noise of your other party's connection. I usually call my voicemail and listen to the blank parts carefully, since the "voicemail lady" has no wind noise to worry about!

I know I'm nuts, yes.

Posted by: L Bo

**more organ music** Halleluah!! I see more and more people are cleansing their sins by running out and getting the soul saving p910a!! **end organ music**

On the topic of background noise, the mics on this phone pick up everything which can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. I talk while driving with my BT-200 and people complain my music is loud when the volume is set on 5. Thats nowhere near loud, so go figure.

BTW, it still sucks that I cant reply to emails without opening the flip!!

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Hey L Bo,

I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear how much you and others enjoy the P910a. This, especially knowing you owned the previous version. Your words carry much weight in my Nit Picking brain.

Now, when *I* talk about noise, I'm referring to "electronic" background noise. Not much you can do about background noise (car going down the freeway, people chattering around you, etc).

But what really galls me are seemingly nice phones- like the SE T637- with nearly flawless specs but with a major audio bummer: You can hear a faint "swooshing" noise in the background, regardless of who is talking, what you're saying, etc.

You can mute both mics on your phone and the far end phone. You can put both phones on hold. The noise is still there.

THAT is what I'm talkin' about. So how does the P910a fare? Does it sound like an old LP with an old stylus (crackle, hiss) or CD-quality, hiss-free sound?

*SECOND TOPIC*
How does the P910a's screen behave? I imagine after x number of seconds, the backlight turns off. Will it leave the LCD itself on, making the screen still slightly readable? Or will the LCD completely go black after x seconds? And how much of this is configuable?

Reason: I love being able to glance down at my phone to see what's up. New message? No signal? Dead battery? With this in mind, my Moto V60gi is great if I leave the flip open. I can see everything.

But on a Treo 600 (for instance), you get total blackness. Just a blinky LED atop.

The Nokia 6600/6620 is a happy medium. You can set the LCD timeout for up to 30 min, and the backlight goes out after a few seconds. But the LCD is so reflective (takes advantage of ambient light) it's still quite readable in most indoor lighting, and gets better outdoors. You can still see the RF bars, battery, etc.

The worst offender? Things like the SE T68i come to mind. Remember that forced "digital clock" baloney? If it weren't for the blinky LED's atop, I never would have owned one.. or three...

So! How does the P910a's screen and lights work? Does it force a "digital clock" on you? Can you still read the standby screen (RF bars, battery) even if the backlight is off? How often does the green "network active" light blink?

** cue organ music **
I want to believe!!!

It does exactly what you want. The backlight turns it self off after around 10 seconds of no action (and it dims down ), you can still see the screen. Then in the preferences, you can set the screen saver to come on (i don't bother) which can be a digital clock, and you can also set it to turn the LCD off (again i don't bother).

Like the others this phone is GREAT

Posted by: WirelessAndy

artesa,

So when the screen dims down, can you still clearly read the RF bars and battery icon?

And, can you comment on how rapidly the green status LED blinks? Does it blink differently if a new SMS is waiting?

So both the P910a and P910i would work with T-Mobile? Since they both work on 1900mhz. Should I go with the P910i this way I can use it internationally? Thanks

Assuming there is light in the room, right now I can clearly see the network status, the battery level, the time, date and network name.

the only problem being, when i take it out of my pocket to look at the time, i always hit a key, and then need to wait for the "Press OK then * to unlock" screen to disapear.

I believe the Green LED flashes the same as other SE phones, a short flash with a pause for nomal service, and then (i think) no flashing for no network, longer flash, shorter pause for new text/mms/phone ringing, solid light when being charged.

I assume this is because you have an automatic key lock engaged? Or is this a feature that is not user adjustable?

Posted by: L Bo

Sorry I was quite busy for the holidays.

Andy, the keypad lock which artesea is referring to is adjustable. It can be on or off. I like artesea and probably others like it on only because the keys do get pushed and sometimes it may make an unexpected call.

Both the bluetooth and status lights blink rapidly when receiving any type of data/calls. Of course if bluetooth is off, then the status will be the only one blinking.

I just love the blinky LEDs!

Now if I can just hit the lotto...!

Posted by: bugladydi

I have had this phone since last Wednesday and all I can say is I LOVE THIS THING!!!!! The Pda2k is up for sale! The call quality is so much better than the I-mate, I get 5 bars inside of my house, the size is perfect, the screen is beautiful - WOW!

I hate to say, "I TOLD YOU SO", so I wont bother.

Posted by: RKinkead

Hi All,

I have been reading this forum for over a year. The UIQ caught my attention with the P910a info. Good info on the P910a.

I decided to get the P910a from SE. I decided to order by phone, to try and avoid any hicups that might come out of the website. Well, the webdite would have been easier. Since Sunday, my order is still not finalized. I was promised that it would be done tomorrow (Wednesday) so that I will have my phone on Friday. Let us see.

It is because I am looking to use a credible seller that I went this way.

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Say, does a case come with the SE packaging? If so, which one? A horizontal belt case, or a simple slip case?

Posted by: bugladydi

WirelessAndy:

A black case comes with the p910. It is a horizontal case made out of a microfiber material with elastic sides and a magnetic snap closure and a belt clip. Inside is a screen cleaning cloth.

This phone is AWESOME!!

Is there a pic of this somewhere floating around?

And what sort of clip is on this out of the box case? A simple, humble springy metal one or a horrid plastic swivel two-part quick-release?

Posted by: bugladydi

Andy: I will take one for you tomorrow. The clip is not a swivel but a rather heavy duty springy type. I can barely move it even to clip on my pants (not that I would but I thought I would check it out for you!).

There! You got your "I told ya so" in! And yes you did tell me so! I like the phone so much I am selling my Pda2k!

Got to get on my soap box for a minute:

I just posted a rather long winded response on the Pocket PC forum in a thread there where someone was asking if he should get a p910 or a Pda2k. There is such a vocal and strong bunch over there promoting the Pda2k and they tend to be pretty negative towards the p910. In their own words they find it hard to believe anyone is still using or even considering such a device. This group is actually the reason I bought the Pda2k in the first place. Very convincing people!

The usefullness of a device is a highly subjective matter and what is great for one may not be so great for the next person. I think the p910 is AWESOME, for whatever it is worth, and I like it better than anything else out there (right now). As anything else, it has its' pros and cons but I feel that the pros outweigh the cons and it should be given serious consideration as an excellent converged device!

Sorry guys, I guess I am preaching to the choir here! Rant complete.

Forgive those who trespass upon our beloved P910's. For they not know what they do. Ignorance is bliss.

So does anyone have any words for me? I am seriously looking into getting a P910, coming from using a CLIE/S700 combo. Please point me in the right direction. Am I making a good decision?

Well it depends on what your needs are. If you give us an idea it would be easier to answer your question. Also, you might look throught UIQ forum as there are several users on here how have talked about their experiences.

That it is. Very good actually.

Posted by: PlatinumGLI

Does anyone notice the response times to making a selection is very slow? Or is this just a trait of SE phones.....cause the K700i I had previously was the same way.

Posted by: L Bo

Seems to be a trait unfortunately.

Posted by: mobilezen

SE's site has the P910a now for $799 and with the holiday promotional code, you get the hbh-600 for free.

Posted by: bigdreamer11

I bought the p910a bcause of this thread. Im using Cingular for service, and it rocks!
I get full signal everywhere. Im getting 3 bars in the basement.

But I cant get the outgoing smtp to work. I tryed the configuration from SE site. And I called customer care. Please help Im banging my head on the wall.

Thanks for the help and insight L Bo!

Hi
Have a question about p900/910s... is there an equipment insurance company that will cover pda phones in general? I called LockLine (ATT and cingular uses them for phone insurance) and the process getting the phone fixed/replaced seems very easy but they dont cover pda phones. Funny thing is, is that both ATT and Cingular both offer the insurance plans for PDA phones online for any pda phone they offer. I went through all the checkout processes except paying and it doesnt give an error, IE "insurance not available on pda phone, etc". Does anyone have more detailed/correct info about this? I am planning to get either a 900/910 but want to make sure that the screen will be protected against damages and insurance will take care of it. If they do cover the pda phone, then I might be able to get my broken one fixed/replaced.
Please msg me if anyone knows.
thanks

They wont insure any pda phone when I tried. Ive owned every single pda phone they carry. I was trying to get one that fits my needs, so I tried eveyone they had, until I bought my p910. They definetly wont cover a phone they dont sell. They have no way to fix or replace it.

You're welcome. Try the sub-forum for settings on the particular email settings you need. One of those threads should be able to help you.

i know that back when i had my p900, many people posted issues with their p900's having problems with squeeky noises when squeezing the sides of the phone (or just holding it tight for that matter)....

well my p910a is starting to have that problem. it wasnt bad at all in the beginning but has actually gotten a bit worse moving to both sides now rather than just the one side.

im guessing its some type of adhesive that is used for those side plates in the center of the sides? not really sure if there is adhesive, but im guessing that because of the squeekiness' gradual progression.

if anyone has the same p910 issue please post your experiences. thanks.

P.S. is anyone else completely pissed off about SE giving out the free hbh-600 BT headsets for p910a purchases now? on top of being 30 dollars cheaper their now giving the headset ive been debating on buying, out for free!!!!! @#$@ you SE!!

Posted by: L Bo

I'm working on trying to get Amex to give me the difference since I have a price guarantee.

As fas as the squeak noise, I've heard it since I took mine out the box. :laughs:

Cnet is listing the p910 as the BEST SMART PHONE in their top 100 Best Tech Toys feature:

And again it is listed as one of the hottest items in their "Happy New Year Hit List":

http://www.cnet.com/4520-6022_1-102...l?tag=cnetfd.dl

Just thought I would pass along some press that confirm what WE have known all along - the p910 is AWESOME!!!

Posted by: WereSHARK

Hi all!

Shortly after Xmas, I got myself the P910a and transferred all my settings from a back up of my P910i. (It's nice to know that that backup files are interchangeable on the 910 series, just not between the 900 to/from 910)

But what I'm wondering, as of today, January 3rd, 2005, is: What's the latest firmware for the P910A?

I have a 162005/8 and its shows me:

Phone: CXC162050 R4A006

Bluetooth: CXC162028/1 R2C

Organiser: CXC162041 R2A17

CDA: CDA162005/8 R2A16

I just got it direct from Sony Ericsson. I DID check with the Soney Ericsson Update Service and it tells me that this IS the latest firmware. However, there are members posting about how their P910As' have a CDA of CDA162005/8 R3A04. I'm wondering how is it that these other phones have a firmware revision that is one version ahead of what's available via SE's Update Service? and where (and maybe even when) am I supposed to be able to update to this later revision?
Anyone here know or can speculate?

Where is everyone getting their 1GB Memory Stick Duo's from?

Posted by: Airkat

When I had my p900 and HBH-60 The bluetooth would connect to my headset when I had a call. Now it persistently connects with headset on p910? Doesnt that drain battery?

Posted by: mclaughlinc

Has anybody found an app that would track calls and transfer all this information to my desktop into say Outlook in the journal section? It would be great to also record and tranfer SMS's. My point is a journal that tracks everything and Sync's it to my desktop for searching later. As a salesmen on the road alot this would be a very useful tool for me.

I got a Sony HISPEED 512MB MEMORY STICK DUO PRO from sparco.com a couple week ago. Their Web site isn't very pretty, but their prices are competitive.

MS DUO products carried by sparco.com

They seem to carry both the Sandisk and Sony 1GB DUO Pro Memory Sticks.

Posted by: bullfrog

Wow! nice prices! I thought I would have to pay through the nose for one of these cards. They aren't that bad at all

Thanks for the linkage CMR_MTL!

SONY IMAGING-9

1GB HI-SPEED MEMORY STICK PRO DUO RED MAGICGATE COMPATIBLE $264.10

SANDISK CORPORATION-4
1024MB MEMORY STICK PRO DUO 1GB $118.98

What I would be curious to know is....is there a speed difference between the SanDisk and the Sony? I am sure at that hardware level it would only be a millisecond difference, if at all but I am just curious if OEM is better than generic. I mean that is a $100 difference between the two sticks. Kinda makes ya wonder

Check out the Sandisk and SonyStyle Web sites for detailed info about the data transfer speeds.

I believe the MS slot needs to be compatible with this new Hi-speed protocol for it to make any difference. I could be wrong about this.

I got the Sony hi-speed card for three reasons:

1- Currently, I only have devices that use full-sized MS, but I wanted a high capacity card that would be as future-compatible as possible. "Pro Duo" and "Hi-speed" are Sony's latest MS technologies.

2- Sony cards (as opposed to those from 3rd parties) should provide the greatest compatibility. (This is just my feeling. When Sandisk first started making MS cards several years ago, I remember reading about compatibility issues with some devices (CLIEs)).

3- I intend on mainly using it with the PSP (PlayStation Portable).

Some of the Sony MS cards (like the Hi-Speed ones) have an extended operating temperature range. This might be of importance if you have a P910 which will be used outside in the winter. (That is, if you live in a city like Montreal ;-))

Logically speaking, yes. I find that strange that the 900 and 910 use different methods to pair bluetooth devices.

Are you sure it isn't a setting in your 910?

BTW, in 12 years of cell phone use the P910 is the closest thing to perfection.

I completely agree. I keep telling myself I'll crack open the manual cuz I havent found the setting by tinkering yet

Posted by: Calculon

Airkat,

Did you know that the 910 has several Bluetooth profiles (one of which is for headsets)?

I haven't really looked into this, since I don't have (or want, for now) a bluetooth headset .

I'm reading a whitepaper on the 910, published by SE, and am discovering all the things this handset is capable of. Very interesting / impressive.

Cheers!

That's ----ing great! I just bought it on Monday for $799 through there. I got a HBH-600 for free though but still, that bites. Do you think I could talk them into "price guarantee" refund of the difference (I know they do not offer one but you never know)?

Posted by: WirelessAndy

I'm such a nerd...

I just printed out a full-scale pix of the P910a on the laser printer and cut it out with scissors, just so I can get an idea how "holdable" this thing is.

Although it's flat (it's just paper!), I'm beginning to see what the fuss is about. I don't know why, but every time I see a photo of one, I keep thinking it must be iPaq sized.

It is about the same width/thickness as a Treo, it would seem, give or take a few mm. But I'm not sure I want to put up with the Treo's quality control issues I keep hearing about.

I believe that "bad news travels faster than GOOD news". I'm impressed to say that I've heard VERY LITTLE chatter about horrific bad things on the P910a.

Except for:
- Bigger apps/games a little slow
- Keyboard not illuminated (keypad is)
- Some users have p910a body creaking
- Price
- Not as pocketable as say, a V3 Razr
- "I can't find apps!" "Shut up noob and search!" hehe

Plusses I've heard around here:
+ Beautiful display
+ Good RF and incoming audio quality
+ Pretty stable OS (I do not tolerate crashes)
+ Good hybrid as a phone first, PDA second.. which is what I want!!!

You know what my problem is? My expectations are SO HIGH with the P910a that I'm afraid I"m gonna get all jazzed up then horribly dissapointed when something bad happens- like finding the audio quality (hissing) isn't up to my unrealistic expectations or that it crashes every hour.

This is what I figured, but couldnt find it. Again, I'll get to the book eventually

Posted by: Calculon

WirelessAndy,

OK, the P910a is a piece of cr@p. Now that your expectations are lower....

Seriously, keep in mind that there is no perfect phone/PDA. However, I have to say that the P910 is the closest thing to it.

BTW, ANY device you buy may have some idiosyncracies, like a creaking body, or some other such characteristic.. It just depends on your luck and threshold for tolerating these imperfections. In 13 years of PDA & phone usage I only had to exchange 1 because the microphone died. Others instead complain of all sorts of defects. For example, my last phone, a Hiptop Color Sidekick, worked flawlessly while others in the Hiptop forum complained of having to change theirs 2, 3, 4, 5 times!!!

Food for thought.

Cheers!

Posted by: WirelessAndy

You mean your P910a had a mic problem? (Or something else in the past 13 yrs?)

Oh, I forgot to mention, those "minuses" I listed above are all tolerable to me, provided the "plusses" are true.

God forbid! No, it was my Toshiba e805 PDA that had the mic problem.

The build quality of the 910 is excellent.

is there a section on HoFo for Ebay scams? In the past few days, there has been a guy that posts all these too-good-to-be-true prices on phones. He uses a different id each day, but the body of the message says to email Criguaneman@aol.com. For example, $490 with free shipping for a P910a, $250 for a Quad-band Treo 650 (I'd like to see that one), $249 for a Motorola Razor, etc.

It has all the earmarks of an escrow scam - dude says he doesn't use Paypal because 'oh, it only gives me a $2000 limit so I need you to use Western Union to send me the money'. Also, watch, at around 4pm PST each day, he'll post about 20 different phones - just look for the P910a for $490 that says 'you can buy it now for that price'. Using a different (presumably hijacked) id each day. And around 11pm PST each day, he'll pull out all the listings. I'm not sure how it's possible, perhaps an EBay oversight, but even if I put a Watch on this item, the item will still disappear from my list.

When I asked him why he pulls the auctions each day, here is his stupid reply:

I have stoped the auction because I have so many offers from different ebayers and I dont know who is who and what phone wants everyone.I get more and more confused...If you want the phone , please mail me soon and we will have a deal.
Thank you

Has all the earmarks of this:

You want the HoFo Fraud Forum.

And don't buy from Celluloco.com, either.

celluloco went bad?

Posted by: dotokpa

Ok I know I'm late. Just ordered my P910a. Now for the dreaded wait until Tuesday for it to arrive.

I wish I had all the info on the phone so I can start getting software while I'm waiting.

Planning on getting Tracker, Desktop Message, Remote P900, Power Protect, S&W SMS Manager, Smart Birthday and WorldMate.

I've been trying these with my P900 that unfortunately won't work here because I'm in a small town and need that 850 Mhz...

Anyway if anyone has any better suggestions for these please let me know.

I use S&W SMS Manager to password protect certain text messages.

Power Protect to lock files and pictures,

Smart Birthday for birthday reminders......

I'm also planning to get the jabra 250. Anyone used this before with good/bad things to say.

I'm going to miss the caller id function of the HBH-200 but I want to try something else.

Thanks.

I never got how caller id on your ear was helpful lol

Posted by: dotokpa

Have you ever seen the HBH-200.

If you haven't I suggest you take a look at it.

Then maybe you'd understand.

Posted by: Airkat

I've seen pictures of it. And still dont get it. The caller id is on the actual headset right? Which is on your ear?

*edit* and i can't help but notice a nasty tone to your post. I wasnt attacking the headset or you. Just was inquiring.

Posted by: dotokpa

There wasn't a nasty tone to my reply...

Sorry if it seemed like there was.

Let's see.... the headset is in the form of earphones which I like and then it has one of those sony like remotes for their md's which is where the caller id is.

It's hard to describe but the point is you can have the earpice in your ear and look at the caller id without taking it out.

Posted by: dotokpa

Here's a pic of it.

Posted by: Airkat

gotcha! I was thinking fo that other model where the caller id is on the actual headset, its a bluetooth wireless

Posted by: dotokpa

Oh.. I know what you had in mind.

Seems the other one was more popular so it's imbeded in a lot of peoples mind.

Well basically now you know why I love it.

For me it was really practical because I always need to know who's calling before I pick up and having to bring out the phone all the time took away from the whole bluetooth experience for me.

Plus it had last number called/ received/ missed function so I rarely brought out my phone.

Posted by: Calculon

Why did you get rid of the hbh-200? I was actually thinking of getting it.

BTW, Mobipocket on the P910 is fantastic!

Congrats on your new UberPhone!

Posted by: dotokpa

I still have it even tho I kept folding it in my pocket and now it has a short.

I'm planning on getting another one but I just wanted to try the Jabra BT250 because my bro had told me it's the equivalent of sony earphones for comfort and sound quality.

It so happens there's now the BT250v which has vibra alert...
Looks like I'll be getting the Jabra, another hbh-200 as well as the hbh-600 I'm getting from SE with my P910a...

Ok. So after so testing I've been able to not charge my cell for 2 days straight with consistant use by doing just one simple thing. What is it you ask? I will tell you. It was so simple that it surprises me that it was never mentioned before.

Oh how I sat here for hours and hours and wondered how I could get more life outta my battery. Have I annoyed you yet?

OK. OK. By eliminating the screen saver feature or at least keeping it at 2 mins max, this was a BIG help.

Also, I own a hbh-200 and need to replace the battery, but have no clue as to how to remove or replace it. Any ideas?

Posted by: Calculon

L Bo,

Here is what I found on the net

"I've got a HBH-200 bluetooth headset, which has a worn out battery. It
contains two 1/2 AAAA NimH batteries from GP (Golden Peak batteries in
HK). The battery code is GP15AAAAHT2X. The T2X part refers to the fact
that they are pre-tagged together in series in a specific way."

Now you need to track down the batteries. I would check with a local SE service center or I guess you can DIY.

Hope this helps.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Hey L Bo,

You mean, your phone won't charge?

Or you've been able to keep your phone running on batteries only with heavy usage by the little screen saver adjustment?
