so i had my heart set on the SMT 5600, mainly for the outlook syncing abilities. i am incredibly forgetful so i thought a smart phone would be ideal to sync with all my windows apps. but is any other phone with simply a claender and reminders good enough? will it remind me at all. and does SyncML mean i can sync with outlook?

i belive you can sync most any phone with outlook.

Hey, I just go this phone a few days ago, and I can tell you that its by far the best phone ive had in years. Call quality, battery duration with HEAVY use, all of it is great. See the review of it above where its side by side with the moto. I hve a friend that had the moto, and he took it back for the 5600.
This will sync directly with outlook. I'll write something up tonight for you guys to read about the real world use of the 5600.

While it is true that mostly any "Computer connectable phone" will synch with your PIM (Outlook, Notes, whatever), the DATA that is contained in the "simple phones" will only contain name and phone number(s) at best. The Smartphones (Series 60, Win SmartPhone, etc) usually have a richer data set to work with (Email addresses, work and home addresses, IM addresses, birthdays, anniversaries, notes, etc)
Having had a Nokia 3650, I really enjoyed the richer dataset than was available on my previous phone --- a Moto P280. However, there was still a lot of hooting and hollering that needed to be done to really synch the phone with Outlook or Notes.
There is no pain, fuss, or muss with the SMT 5600 -- it "just works". It's a thing of beauty.
The other side benefit is that the phone charges from the mini-USB adapter. Thereby, if you happen to use a computer to provide the power AND the sync -- every time you will "dock" your phone for Recharge, it will Synch .. That way it catches all your email changes, address changes, and calendar changes.
I tell ya, it's really changed the way that I look at the CURRENCY of my data. (Calendar and Contacts)..
Also, the way it Dials (spelling of the name, etc) is another thing of beauty.
This one lives up to it's marketing name -- SMARTPHONE.

can you do both last name first and first name first?
Posted by: mcm30114
I think, by default, it's posted as LAST, FIRST -- however, it really dosent matter that much to me anyhow, because as you start typing, it will catch the spelling of what you are (trying to) type and apply it to both the first and last names at the same time.
For example -- if you have "Martin, Mull" and "Mull, Martin" in your address book as two separate folks, you can either type "Mull" or "Martin" and both will show up.
Also -- most of the time you dont have to complete the spelling as what happens is -- AS YOU TYPE -- it starts eliminating entries from the complete collection of folks in your contact list. It may be that within 2-3 characters, the person that you want to contact is on the screen. If you happen to have a lot of "Smith"s in your family tree, you may have to scroll through them (if you chose "SMITH" as your search term), or if you have a "Smith, Philip" and you start typing "P-H-I-L" chances are your smith of choice will appear quickly.
BTW -- this seems to be the same behavior if you have a Pocket PC, go to ADDRESSES, and search by name. My Nokia 3650 did essentially the same thing -- but on this phone, IT IS MUCH MUCH QUICKER.

I absolutely cannot wait until they find a way to unlock this phone.
Im a recent Cingular subscriber (2 months now), and while i love my SE T637, there are a few quirks which bother me and would love to be able to get rid of my Tungsten T3 and combine everything into one unit

In the contact properties in outlook there is a "FILE AS" option for each contact that allows you to select LAST, FIRST or FIRST, LAST. The audiovox 5600 obeys this ordering when you sync the contact. Personally I like having my contact list alphabetized by first name, then last name, so this is nice.
