I called Verizon about the same issue. They told me to take my phone back and get it flashed to overwrite the GIN stuff. They said they could do it w/o erasing any other data. I haven't gone back yet to try it.

they told me the same thing over the phone. i went to a friend's house who is the tech at a local store, she said she'd flash it for me, but can't guarantee it won't delete my stuff off the phone.

I too made the mistake of downloading Mobile IM, not that it's a bad thing...but it seriously needs software help...such as the option of deleting it. Anyway, I called CS and they told me the same thing they told you folks...and so I took it in and they said since the phone is so new they can't flash it. So I ended up having to disable my text messaging (send/receive) in order to stop the text messages that this app was generating. And yes, I was logging out each time I exited.

I'm waiting for the data techs to give me a call back when the software issue is fixed...until then...no sending/receiving text/pic msgs

Anyone know when the issue will be resolved??

Some stuff I posted in other parts of the forum (probably the verizon specific area) about a month ago:

Quote:
I was finally (after 4 days) able to Manually Uninstall MobileIM
using GAGIN.

I have the datacable from 3GCables.com, and their "toshiba" driver
installed.

Install and load up GAGIN (need a link? let me know).

First, I deleted all of the files in my "4192" folder (apparantly
some kind of "name" or serial number or something for MobileIM, may
not be the same on every phone).

Then I was able to delete the 4192 FOLDER on the left side of the
GAGIN window (where it shows the filesystem tree).

Finally (after restarting both GAGIN and my 9900), I was able to
delete the 4192.mif file from the root directory of the phone (on the
RIGHT side of the GAGIN window).

With no other GIN apps installed, it says I'm down to 17% usage, and
356K/1.99MB of my GIN space free. Don't know how accurate that is to
having NO programs installed, I don't remember how much free space I
had prior to playing around with Get It Now and downloading programs
and uninstalling programs, etc... Don't know if there's any clutter
left for me to get rid of, but that should do the trick pretty well.

The BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS, right now, is that I cannot find
MobileIM in the "GET MESSAGING" section of GIN. So I cannot
reinstall it, because the GIN network thinks it's still installed.
But I'm sure I can resolve this with VerizonWireless at a later date.

Just thought everyone should be made aware! Best of luck!

I don't know when, I'll do everything I can to keep on top of it, but
Audiovox is currently working on a bugfix to resolve this issue.

Hopefully I'll know WHEN it comes out, and I'll announce when it
does. If I miss it and somone else finds out when it's released,
feel free to beat me to the punch!

Thank's NuAngel! Could you please send me a link to Gagin and explain how you connected the 9900 with Gagin. I already have a cable.

Thanks again!!!!

http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/g/e/gec125/GAGIN.rar
(126K, requires winrar from RarLabs.com to extract)

http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/g/e/gec125/GAGIN.exe
(760K)

Simply run GAGIN, and choose your port (this version supports ports 1-4, if your phone is on a port higher than 4, let me know, I have other versions of GAGIN that support this). Then you'll see the filesystem structure as I explained in my post above.

If you don't know what port your phone is on, go into the DEVICE MANAGER (press WINDOWS KEY + PAUSE KEY, click HARDWARE, then click DEVICE MANAGER), then expand MODEM's and right click on the phone and click PROPERTIES. Click the MODEM tab at the top, and it should say: PORT: Com4 (that's the comport mine is on).

Thanks NuAngel! But my phone seems to be on port 10 so I can't use Gagin. Is there a release that would support port 10.
Thanks

I only have a version of GAGIN that goes ports 5-8. Try a different USB port, if you have a USB hub or something, try plugging directly into the computer itself or something.

Here are the downloads for what I titled "GAGIN high ports."

http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/g...125/GAGINhp.rar
(127K {needs winrar})

(760K)

Good luck,
NuAngel
