SCP-5500 vs. MM7400

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

It seems that the 5500 has 4 LEDs for the Flash, but the MM7400 has but one. I think the 5500 looks better, but that is just my opinion.

The MM7400 has the voice command that does not need to be programmed, an awsome feature, but that seems to be about the only improvement I could find?! What am I missing?

Anyone have something to say about this?

Go to www.sanyo.com for a better view of the MM-7400 features. They look very good IMO.

5500 is still a popular phone and that explains why the price hasn't dropped from $349.00 as of yet, the 7400 is a great phone BUT to ditch my 5500 for the reason that the 7400 has a better screen and streaming video....hmmm
What I like to see a sturdy motorola like RL phone (made by Sanyo ofcourse) without the camera and video stuff....full duplex

The 7400 doesn't add a lot to the 4500's features. There are a few differences, but they are basically the same phone. If you already have a 4500, I'd recommend not wasting your money on the 7400 since MUCH better phones are on the near horizon.

If you absolutely need a phone right now, need RL, don't mind the muddy Sanyo earpieces and like the ruggedized look, you should check out the 7400.

Not a true statement. They are not the same phones. I have both the 5500 and the 7400 and they are not the same phones. One has multimedia one doesnt. Some more differences but def not the same phone.

There are like 4 or 5 things the 7400 has that the 5500 doesnt have which is more than a few things. Also, how can you say there are differences but they are the same phone?

Learn to read. You're trying to argue that 4 or 5 is more than "a few?" Um, okay.

As for being the same, I wrote that they were "basically the same phone."

Have you actually used the phone? If not, please go away.

Iam selling a brand new sanyo 5500, any one want it?

Posted by: slffl

If you havn't learned yet, if Jimmyjames doesn't like it, it usually means it's good. He's a brand guy, and for some reason has a problem with the Sanyo brand. I have a 4500 and it sounds twice as good as my treo 600, VGA1000, and treo 300 did.

Does the screen on the Sanyo 7400 seem a little darker and more brown than the Sanyo 4500? I held them side by side and the screen on my 4500 seems to be more vibrant and brighter. At first I thought that maybe there was a screen protector on the 7400, but there wasn't. Has anyone else noticed this about the screens?

Yes the 4500 screen seems a little more brighter and vibrant

after using both phones for a while, I'll through in my 2 cents on that.

The 7400 is an improvement on the 5500 in ALOT of ways, mostly functional. If you actually used the phone for more then a few days, you would know what I mean. Using a phone for a week or so, and then returning it, cant make you an expert on it, so take every word as a grain of salt.

Functionality wise, the fact that it retains T9 until you restart the phone is awesome. You can also now SMS someone directly from your speeddial, something the 5500 lacks. the screen is alot better, and the color is more richer.

for example:

attached is an image of my 5500 and 7400, and you can see, the colors look better on the 7400.

What I didnt like about the 7400 was the camera. It uses a more advanced one of the 8200, which in my opinion sucks in certain lighting conditions. Even with adjustments, there is a halo sometimes under flurencent (sp) lighting, where the 5500 would preform fine.

All in all, if we were not all aware of the upcoming phones next year, the 7400 would be a good choice, and for many it still is.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 7400 for alot of reasons. But I just dont like the fact that the screen seems darker. When I bought my 5500, I had to open 8 different phones before I found one with a bright screen. I know I'm not seeing things. I download lots of screensavers and take lots of pics. The resolution is better on the 7400, but I just cant make the switch yet...
