ngage = "movie player"?? hhmmmm

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: 9.27

iv read a few threads w ppl calling the ngage a "game deck", "mp3 player", "pda", "movie/video player", etc... after converting a couple .avi's (music videos) with the nokia multimedia player and playing it on the default video player on the ngage qd, i wasnt impressed. the framerate provides jerky playback, and the resolution is equally unimpressive. (the sound sucked, which is understandable because of the qd's mono). who r we kidding... movie player?

is there a better converter? or.. and better movie player? perhaps realplayer, or helix? or is this the extent that the ngage (or any series60) is capable of?

i was really on converting family guy and chapelle's show episodes to watch during my breaks at work...

Posted by: angel_wing0

try smartmovies and it's pc converter..WAY BETTER...

but if u have QD the sound will suck thou (compare to ngage)

Posted by: RoYaL21

Man you are badly in need of smartmovie I never use the standard videoplayer. With smartmovie you can watch movies in full screen.

Posted by: 9.27

downloading smartmovie..................................

Posted by: angel_wing0

alrite..tell me on msn how it went

qd would have the same quality as the original... the original only plays stereo sound for its built in mp3 player, anything else is still 16khz mono

Posted by: angel_wing0

actually no...its still stereo on the ngage

Posted by: 9.27

RETRACTION:
smartmovie makes the ngage a decent movie player.

**turns back to family guy c/o my QD ....peter just ruined cable tv

ya i kno eh.. iv come to terms w the sync problem.

Posted by: angel_wing0

good to hear~

Posted by: crazyguy482

So actually how is the sound on the QD for movies? I would get the regular N-gage but i need 850 so its my only option.

Posted by: angel_wing0

the sound is ok..non-stereo..but still acceptable

Posted by: lorain

Angel,

Can you please tell me how to download a movie on to my QD. I am so intrigued by all the discussions on these forums on how people are watching movies on their QD's but I have the slightest Idea on how to do this.

Thanks,

Lorain

you'd be sitting there for a while with wap

Posted by: Superweirdash

What size will a 90 minute movie be? I'd imagine you can compress it pretty small with such a small and lowres screen.

there's settings on the converter, so it would vary

Posted by: Superweirdash

Do you have an estimate? Maybe a guesstimate?

i put a few music videos, settings all the way up, 5 to 7 megs

Posted by: angel_wing0

usually its at least 5~10X less~

Posted by: Superweirdash

I just ask as I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 128MB card, and I'd like to know what kind of video time I could hold with it.

Posted by: angel_wing0

dont buy a 128 card...it doesnt hold alot @_@ d

Posted by: Amw3000

I picked up a 512 card for aboout 60 CAD. 1 GB was around 100 CAD.

i use to have a 128. get something bigger. you'll fill it fast

Posted by: angel_wing0

aka...1 GB

Posted by: nles

I Used virtualdub to convert those video files. It did a better job with proper config compairing with the smartmovie converter.

Posted by: angel_wing0

sounds cool

Posted by: shadowguy

Is anyone but me stuck in Demo mode? Does anyone have a license that I could use to get out of demo?

Posted by: nles

With smartmovie own converter. The video convert normally skips some frame on fast-pace movement.
Using virtualdub it wont skip the frame but the quality of that part may not be so good. Might have a bit blur but at least is better than skipping the frames. One downside though, virtualdub doesn't support windows media files because of the microsoft license thingy. Heard there's a mod to make virtualdub support it.

I found the tutorial bout the processing settings here http://forum.ngagegaming.com/ubb/ul...f=5;t=000289;p=

There's some thing u might wanna change yourself too. the filter resize should not be 208X176 as stated, 208X176 is the screen size of ngage. Shrink from a 640X480 video it should be around 208X156. Wide screen movie will have a different resolution.
I also change the audio interleaving.

Posted by: angel_wing0

yip exactly..my bad..i thought he was trtying to say he has a demo nagge

Posted by: Coffeh

how does the movie look on n-gage
id think it would look bac due to only 4096 colours.hehe i want one though

Posted by: angel_wing0

nop it doesnt actuslly

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

its really not bad. I like it. Well there is the lag every now and then. skipps for maybe 5-10 secs normaly just once. but once its gone. Its clear sailing. But then again i never watched a movie on it. only music videos and porn clips

Posted by: angel_wing0

hmm..well i put anime on there and it works perfectly fine~

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

yea on my anime i get a lag. it normal happens at 1:20's thru 1:35 time frames and then i'm good to go thru out the whole 26-29 min video.

Posted by: angel_wing0

strange

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

yea it is. but i got used to it. maybe its cause i'm using 600mb of the 1gb. is there a way to defrag the MMC card ?

Everyone card/phone will have diffrent results.

Posted by: Superweirdash

Do you have norton utilities or any similar disk software? The regular defrag on that should work on your card.

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

like say if i. hooked it up with the USB and just defrag normaly. my drive would show up ?

I might try this..

Posted by: angel_wing0

actually i just dl'ed the new smartmovies (2.72)...and now i dont even need STUPID ffdshow to convert! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: angel_wing0

honestly..

smartmovies 2.72 with xVid mp4 encoder = CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

and make sure u install the latest codec for your phone

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

ffdshow.. i never knew what that was... where would you pick up the lastest codec. shouldn't be me "packaged" with smartmovie.

Posted by: angel_wing0

depends...reallys

Posted by: Superweirdash

I noticed only one of the Codec's listed on the smartmovie page is active (free-codecs.com). Is there a mac version of this codec? What about other sources for codecs? If I get any movie in one of the supported codecs, will it play right away? Or will it need to be encoded in SM?
Thanks,
Ash

(BTW, a more comprehensive FAQ for SM would be very nice :P)

Posted by: angel_wing0

try ffdshow...should work..google it using that word

Posted by: Superweirdash

ffdshow is down. However, the Sourceforge page makes it look like it's in .exe format, which is incompatible with the mac. If I was to download it, would I just send the files to my phone? I assume they're not .sis files, so how would I install them?

Posted by: angel_wing0

no u install it on your computer...

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

yea the ffsshow is on my computer. i found the folder for it. no idea whats it for but oh well. i dont really care since i haven't used it yet.

Posted by: Superweirdash

Maybe I just don't understand what codecs really are. Is there a FAQ page for codecs in general?

its a codec so that u can convert movies on smartmovies..but with 2.72, u wont need that

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

^sounds great then. but rather pointless now since i already have it installed hahaha. Now i remember FFDshow. POS took me while to find that install file, about all i remember of that. 2.72 interesting stuff.. i'm too lazy to get the new one. Nothing wrong with my 2.62 i think

No need to convert? o.O Means what? Put 1 anime episode u downloaded around 200mb in size in your mmc card?

Posted by: angel_wing0

read..."and now i dont even need STUPID ffdshow to convert! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

DOES NOT mean that i dont have to convert..read clearly pls...

Posted by: BowLoFTurTLe

lol you still convert it. Just that you dont need anything besides the smartmovie converter to do it. well now anyways....

Posted by: angel_wing0

exactly! well said man

Posted by: Bcollins521

Tried the demo out, and it works great, but I noticed that there is a full screen mode. Do you get that availability once you register it or can you do that with the demo??

Thanks,
Brian

Posted by: angel_wing0

i think u can get it with the demo~

Posted by: Superweirdash

Is there a S60 app that will play un converted regular MPEG or AVI files?

Posted by: angel_wing0
