I have reading on the internet that a new model of treo will have windows based software. If that is true and the software is out there, if we buy tghe current treo 650 with palm software will we be able to reformat the unit with windows software? just wondering...

It will probably come preinstalled with Windows Mobile. I think that you most likely wont be able to buy the OS but hackers will find a way to make it happen

No, but they are licensee of Windows Mobile so they may, eventually, produce a PPC model

what if we buy the new 650 palm based phone, will we be able to change the phone from palm to windows ppc?

If someone that had a PPC treo could extract the ROMs (which is possible) they could devise an installer to install onto a PalmOS one. It's kinda like running linux on an iPaq

5 easy steps
1) Save your bootloader
2) Save your original ROM
3) Install new bootloader
4) Install new ROM
5) reboot

it seems on treocentral.com there is more talk of a ppc treo today. wow, i might be buying a treo 700 with ppc software next year?!?
