Any chance Cingular sells SMT5600?

If ATTW stores become Cingular after the 15th, will the new Cingular stores begin selling the SMT5600 as a Cingular branded phone? If not, then am I right in assuming the only way to get the 5600 and use it with Cingular is if someone comes up with a way to unlock it?

I have been trying to answer this question as well but have heard many conflicting things:

1) Cingular will sell the SMT5600 beginning at the end of November

2) Cingular will unclock the current SMT5600 so that it can work on the Cingular system

3) The phone will not work on Cingular so if you don't purchase it prior to the 15th, you won't be able ot have it activated

4) Even after the 15th you will still be able to activate the phone with an ATT&T plan.

My belief is that the SMT5600 will be taken off the shelves come the 15th and won't be available unless enough people complain. The phone is only $199 and with any business discount can be had for $125. Additionally, Amazon is selling this phone for $30 after mail-in-rebate.

The phone just doesn't generate enough money to deal with the hassel of offering it through Cingular. I ordered one from Amazon last week that will arrive shortly. I will grandfather in the best AT&T deal I can in case it isn't offered after the 15th. If it is offered, and with a better plan, I'll change plans or even return the phone if necessary and purchase it again.

I hope that they do carry it. It's a better phone feature wise than any phone that they carry now. The biggest thing is that, the price right and you get a OS that will do almost very thing the series 60 Nokia 6620 will do for $200 less.

I don't think that price will be a issue. If you look at Cingular line up now, there are some high price phones in the list

Cingular

Nokia 6230 - $199.00
Nokia 6820 - $249.00
Nokia 6620 - $399.00
palmOne Treo 600 - $499.00
Motorola V3 - $499.99

ATTWS

SMT5600 - $199.00

These are 2 year contract prices before any rebate

So the SMT5600 should fit right in
