What do I do to get a Cingular plan? I ordered the SMT5600 from Amazon and should be receiving it tomorrow. I assume I now need a 64k SIM from Cingular. How do I get one without signing a separate contract with Cingular? Will Cingular allow me merely change my AT&T plan to a Cingular plan without buying a new phone if I am in my 30 day return period?

First you need to cancel the service you ordered from Amazon along with your phone (ignore this if you paid 350 and got it without the service). At this time you are a new customer to cingular - walk into any store get a free phone (sell it on ebay) and get the SIM free and a promotional rate plan. You will be also able to get a service without contract with some persuation skills depending on whether it is a corporate store or agent. Although without contract you would not be able to take advantage of the promotional items of the rateplan like unlimited mobile-to-mobile etc.

Few problems with that suggestion. First, if I cancel my rate plan I assume Amazon won't honor the $200 rebate. Would I would like to do is have AT&T switch my plan to Cingular without technically cancelling my contract. Additionally, 7pm nights is very important to me and I don't think that is possible without a contract.

Anyone have any other suggestions. Thanks.

your best bet then would be to wait till the 15th worse case senerio that they won't do it and you just cancel your contract with ATT and pay the 175 fee (by this time your amazon rebate will have cleared, which is more than the 175 anyway). but most likely they'll switch you over if you talk to the right person
