R3a04 for P910i out

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SupraTT

Iam doing the update now and will report any new things soon

Posted by: DoubleVision19

Just updated my P910i. The only difference I've seen is that my phone connects to the PC Suite program a little faster. Bluetooth connection is faster as well as the transfering of files via BT. I haven't tried with a BT headset because I don't have one. Anyone with a BT headset, please let us know the connection issues with the phone and headset. Mahalos in advance.

Do you have the link to the download? I can't seem to find via the SE site.

Thanks,

Mitch

Here you go

I edited your thread to state that this is for the p910i only. Those of us with the "a" dont have an update at this time.

Posted by: MG-GOLFER

Thanks for the link.

But, now I have a stupid question. I just spoke to Sony Support and I was told that the 910a could be flashed with the 910i update. I was told the phones are the same other than the 850/900 difference. As a matter of fact, if you do a manual check, the latest update is R2a17, which is what is already in my phone.
So, where is the R3a04 update and what are the improvements supposed to be?

Thanks,

Mitch

Posted by: MG-GOLFER

Ok, after further research, I have found the R3a04 release. The thing it is, it is only offered to the units with the CDA number 162005/7, my unit is 162005/8 and the system only offers me the R2a17 update. Can anyone shead any light on this?

Thanks,

Mitch

CDA162005/1 to CDA162005/7 is supported. 8 and 9 is still not supported.

Found a bug after the update....After a couple of days with the update, I finally realized that the status bar when dialing is no longer animated. I hope that Sony Ericsson reads this and fix it with the next update

I updated to R3A4 and the dialing status bar (that scrolls from left to right, underneath the person's contact info) works fine on mine... unless there is a different status bar i'm not aware of.

It seems I am the only one who is still suffering from the inability to update. The phone goes into programming mode but before it reconnects, I get a communication error and the process aborts. I've tried just about everything that has been suggested to no avail and have attempted the update on three different systems. The only common denominator is that they are all runing XP Pro SP2. Has anyone successfully updated their p910i with this operating system? I fear I have to look for a system that is running Windoiws 2000

iam running service pack 2 and it works fine for me

Posted by: fcukash

I have SP2 and it does NOT work for me either. I called SE and they said it is due to the firewall in SP2. So I shut off the firewall and it still doesn't work!!

Are you running any 3rd party firewalls?

No. All I have is the SP2 firewall and Norton.

Posted by: DoubleVision19

Norton Firewall or Norton Anti-Virus?

Did you try clearing all your Internet Cookies and trying to go to that web page again? Sometimes that may help.

Posted by: aku9

You can update the firmware with the dock station that the phone comes with? The PC Suite CD I got is in like Chinese or something, where do I get the English version?
Thanks

I have Norton Anti-Virus 2004. I also have the latest Syncstation settings. I'll try to clear the Cookies.

Posted by: charlie

I cannot imagine what clearing the cookies has to do with anything. This is too much like voodoo, and the aggravating thing is that SE has their head in the sand, refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem. If anyone knows how to contact someone at SE who knows anything more than how to place a call, I would love to talk to someone who is technically-oriented.

So I don't need Fighter or anything to upgrade the firmware? I can just do it through the DSS?
Thanks Supra!

Posted by: aku9

Alright I've updated the firmware but now im facing a funny problem, the language is Chinese.. does anyone know where I can change it to English? Ive tried going through all of CP..

Posted by: DoubleVision19

Go into "Control panel"

Select the "Other" tab

Then select "Language selection" (5th from the list)

From there, I believe you can select the language you want

Hope that this will help you a little

Posted by: aku9

The 5th is the QWERTY setting...

Bummer, I guess the Chinese layout is different then. All you can do now is to just play around with the tabs and pray that you find it, or another way is to do a Master Reset. From there, you have a choice of what language you want to use on your P910i. Before that, I recommend that you back up your phone. BTW, when you updated your phone, did the phone tell you to choose the language it rebooted your phone?

Posted by: aku9

How would I master reset it, can you please give me a walkthrough heh, i really cant read the chinese.

when you are in flip closed mode and no keyloke on use the scrool wheel and star(*) use put in this code
up * down down * down *

and after that a menu will show upp there you press 3 and then 2. This will master reset your phone

Can't read Chinese either, but the easiest way is to just update your phone again via the SE Update Service site. It does it automatically for you. When your phone reboots, just select the language from the list.

Posted by: aku9

Okay I did it but it doesn't ask me for the language... first i press the 3 dots on the screen and then the time and etc, no language setting.

Posted by: aku9

It also asks for the QWERTY thing, i changed it to QWERTY, its all in Chinese still

Posted by: aku9

Sigh! This is very annoying... I can't get it into english, the 'Language Selection' setting is not even there! and even if I do a master reset, it still doesn't ask.

Posted by: SupraTT

This looks like you need to to use terminator or something like it to switch to P910i

Posted by: fcukash

Look at the positives atleast you updated your phone!!

Posted by: aku9

Finally found it, its like the 3rd last one.. the thing is, it doesn't say 'ENGLISH' it says English in chinese. lol, thats kinda dumb.

Posted by: aku9

thanks everyone

Yeah...That's the procedure to upgrading your phone. The whole process takes about 30-40mins to complete.

Posted by: charlie

No joy using Firefox. I am now convinced that the problem lies on the phone side. I had a thought -- is it possible I am having so much trouble because I removed the RSA protection (using Fighter)? I may have to lock the phone again and try the update process.

I got it! Thanks for letting me know about about Firefox. I guess I was missing some Java applet which I installed through Firefox and now can update my phone through IE as well.
