I just spoke to a Moto rep on their 800# and I ask him about the firmware update.. I was told that the phones from Best Buy were "international" versions and support may or may not be provided for them.

If they are different in anyway from the "US" version those differences or parts will not be covered.

Any ideas????

I have to say, Motorola has the most incompetent help desk I have ever called. I wouldn't believe anything they told me.

My response to vague or unknowing answers was to take back my MPX220 and get an Audiovox SMT5600. I have always liked Motorola phones and the RF was really good, but it was not ready for release.

It's bad enough that the information they disseminate is questionnable at best - What makes it even more frustrating is that all of their calls seem to be pushed overseas (many of mine are going to Argentina) to people who, in some cases, have very poor English skills - and in all cases, are difficult to hear because there is so much background noise from the international transfer. (The slight lag resulting from what I guess is a crappy satellite link sucks, as well)

Moto's customer support is indeed now outsourced to Argetina which is a step down from their previous customer support outsourcing to Costa Rica. Ask for a supervisor that speaks fluent English. Always get their name and ID number.
