WTF! No Voice Recog on the 5600!!!

WOW....I can't beleive it.

One of the coolest features of the MPx220 is the voice recognition. You can dial by name or just say the number and the MPx220 will call it....without even having to train the phone.

WhyTF doesn't the SMT 5600 have this? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Someone please enlighten me...

Voice recognition isn't part of Windows Mobile 2003.

HTC (maker of the 5600) added voice tags (weaker than voice recognition), but also added the ability to use them from a BT headset.

Moto added voice recognition but no way to use it from a BlueTooth headset.

Neither method is perfect, although you can add Fonix to the 5600 to give it the same voice recognition features as the MPx220 (although it doesn't work over BT - but voice tags will).

I know of no way to add BT voice dialing to the MPx220.

So what about all the software MPX220 do not have which SMT5600 has ? So what about the ability to hear the other person using SMT5600 ?

With 3rd party applications like these, you cannot compare two manufacturers and there is not law that states that all ms powered smartphones should come with the applications that you like the most. That is the beauty of ms smartphone - go and buy what you want and be happy

I have the SMT5600 and really prefer the use of voice tags over voice regcognition. I had voice recognition on an LG 4500 and the voice tags are much more accurate. I realize it takes much longer to set up, but in the long run it is more effective.

However, I haven't figured out a way to dial a number not in my phone book witohut touching the keypad. I assume this is the limitation in not having voice recognition?

Right -- you need voice recognition to dial numbers.

I agree with you on tags being more accurate. Voice recognition for my contacts worked 90% of the time, but failed miserably on some of them. Funny that when that happens you have to basically setup a voice tag in the voice recog. software. LOL

I'm not talking about other software....I'm talking about this specific feature.

I didn't post....SMT5600 sux...MPx220 rox!

I simply made the observation that the 5600 has no voice recog I want to know if anyone knows why.

If I want opinion, I'll ask for it....I asked for a fact. Go whore up someone elses thread.

Wow you're a cheery person.

Do you honestly believe that anyone here would know why Audiovox and/or AT&T decided against including voice recognition software? Or maybe that was a move on HTC's part, per direction from either of the above mentioned companies? Or how about it had nothing to do with any of these companies.. maybe Motorola decided to differentiate their product from the rest of the SmartPhone offerings by including something they didn't have?

Either way, if you want fact, you should go direct to the source(s) involved in those decisions, not a public forum where people interject their unwarranted "opinions".

I was hoping that someone had already gone to the manufacturer or had heard from someone who did.

Now the question is....can the MPx220s Voice Recog API be transplanted into the 5600?

A buddy of mine is the Project Manager @ Microsoft for the Secure Windows Initiative Attack Team. He's a BRILLIANT programmer. I'm sure he could figure it out.

I'll let you all know if it can be done....and if he is able to do it then I'll post an installable CAB.

and while your at it post an installation cab for windows media player 10 for the mpx220.

thats one of the most wanted programs that smt 5600 has over the mpx220.

Sounds like a fair trade.

It won't work on mpx220. SMT5600 has updated version of operating system as well

Posted by: ProphetX

are you sure its a diff version on windows?

Posted by: aristoBrat

It's a different build number of Windows Mobile, but I think they're both Second Edition.

Posted by: ProphetX

yeah your right but it should still work. i doubt the difference in build can make that entire os that much different

Posted by: AlbertoM

So, what we are talking about here is lifting an application which Motorola supplies in the ROM, and figuring a way to install it in another machine, right?

I think that there is a name for that somewhere....

....and I think that there is a policy about that somewhere....

OTOH, you can try the FONIX software, it is inexpensive, and I had it working well when I had a 5600....

Well, these changes to the OS ARE made to enable usage of WMP10!
