Aftermarket Battery?

Hi,

I have a question regarding any generic nokia battery. I have a nokia 8290. And I am just wondering if generic battery is harmful to the phone itself? Because I have asked my friend (she is working at one cityfone dealer) if a generic battery is ok for my phone (she sells original one which costs $70 Cdn each) and she told me it is not good for the nokia if using generic battery. And I know many of you are experts, please give me some comments/recommendations.

Thanks very much

As far as I've been able to notice, there isn't really a difference between the OEM and aftermarket batteries...sometimes, aftermarket ones would have a slightly lower battery-life but most of the time, it's pretty much the same...and I can't see why it would damage your phone...most are made to OEM specs, anyway...but, be careful...if the battery gets too warm too fast, it may be discharging too fast...not normal...

Just curious as to the standby time and talk time you are getting from the aftermarket Lithium battery for the 3390. I bought mine from HongKong but I am not really impressed with the talktime at all.

The talk and standby time will will depend on the mAh rating of the battery, which isn't very high with the 3390 (compared to other phones). I don't have one myself...kinda hard to find in Canada, but I did get a an aftermarket Li-ion for my 5190, 1200mAh. The standby time is pretty good, but any usage will drain it quite fast. And they are expensive . The biggest advantage to Li-ion, is the don't need to be "conditioned" as much as the NiMH, and the battery pack is usually alot lighter.

These are test posts...right?

I got an aftermarket lithium battery for my 3390 as well. The talk time is not long, but since I don't talk much and I don't have to discharge the battery so I charge it whenever it drops two bars. So it's not a matter to me.

Well I guess everyone else is experiencing the same thing so I guess I'll just have to switch to my 8290 or deal with the battery. The 8290 lithium battery isn't much better but I do get more talk time and standby time with it. Its just so darn tiny..
