(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: sdsviet

hey gmail just came out with their free pop. i tried to configure it into my p900 but it doesnt works. does anyone have this working in their phone? i have the 4.99 tzones set on my phone.

Posted by: firebirdgtr

well well well.....

i am on fido.....and i couldn't recieve any mail also (i do able to send)....... so it sounds like it's fido who block the port?

(i posted a post in the fido forum regarding this problem, if u wanna take a look..

Posted by: sdsviet

the funny thing is that my hotpop mail works fine. it runs on port 25 and 110. the gmail ports were like 465 and 995 i believe. im wondering if tmo is blocking those ports. i tried using hotpop ports on hte gmail but that didnt work either.

Posted by: firebirdgtr

my other pop3 mail works 2... so i suspect it's the port thing ....any answer?

Posted by: ItsPat

Someone on my-symbian forum emailed Gmail and this is the answer he got:

"Thank you for your email. Currently, Gmail does not support POP access to
Sony/Ericsson phones. As we continue with our beta test release of Gmail,
we look forward to providing additional features and enhancements to our
service.

Sincerely,

The Gmail Team"

Maybe I should start one and see if I can access it thru Cingular.

Posted by: ItsPat

If you need an invite L Bo just PM me your email address.

Posted by: rex-star

i think it's a gmail thing... people in the ppc forum are having problems as well

Posted by: sdsviet

×××× teh gmail. giving us free pop but we cant even use it. wat a conspiracy.

Posted by: Baseballfanz

At least for now I can check my Gmail thru Tzone. Otherwise I can send but can't received. At least Gmail is stepping in the right directions.

In your gmail setting (on the web) under "Forwarding and Pop":

Make sure that you used "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on"

I was trying to use my pda to download gmail with the "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)" option but I kept getting that error.

Now it works fine, and every new email that I receive comes in just fine on my XDA IIs.

Hope this helps someone out.

works fine here now...

funny how the ppc guys figured it out, but uiq couldn't... haha lol j/k... just kidding, guys

Posted by: sdsviet

i actually tried it both ways and it didnt work for me. i think the ports i got from gmail is blocked on tmo.

Posted by: L Bo

Still not working for me either. What phone u got Rex?

Posted by: Baseballfanz

Someone on my-symbian forum posted this:

i emailed Gmail asking them about this issues and here was their unfortunate response:

"Thank you for your email. Currently, Gmail does not support POP access to
Sony/Ericsson phones. As we continue with our beta test release of Gmail,
we look forward to providing additional features and enhancements to our

Posted by: L Bo

I read that somewhere else on this forum, but then someone got it working with a T616. Go figure.

Posted by: sdsviet

wat? no way. was it on tmo or cingular?

Posted by: L Bo

There's a whole thread about it. Lemme search...

Posted by: L Bo

Here.

I also did a "gmail settings" search and it brought up a few threads.

Posted by: loko__loko

gmail server requires a secure connection (SSL) and our p8/9 or any SE phones doesnt support such.

Posted by: Guy

Download Profimail and with that installed i can access my gmail account through my P910i. It's obviously a problem with the Px00 email client.

Posted by: oferlaor

I switched output ports (GMAIL recommends two) and outgoing mail works.

Incoming mail simply doesn't work. Not sure why.

Posted by: sdsviet

yea i tried that too. i really dont need it for outgoing. i need it so if someone needs to send me something quick, i can check it anywhere.

Well it worked at first try for my gmail account using outlook 2003.

And it works for my yahoo account.

I got my P900 to work with GMAIL thanks to dasilva333 over at ESATO forum.
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=84473
It's so simple it's brilliant.

Posted by: mvv_hyd

it works though it's not the best. checking email over T-zones is not what everybody is looking for I guess. I would have been better if gmail works with inbuild email client......
well, I guess we can't get everything that we want

Posted by: sdsviet

for me i think it works better if u just made a hotpop acc and have gmail forward everything there. i hve two gmail accts forwarded there and hotpop works great with teh built in client

It;s not checking email with T-zone, it's with built in client.

Posted by: corrado85

what is hotpop/?

Posted by: sdsviet

go to hotpop.com. its a email system that will work with ur built in client. once u make an account u can set it up with ur built in client on ur p900 and u can forward all the mail u want to that account or just use that account as ur own personal email account.

Im trying to set it up though mytmobile.com, i put in the e-mail username, and password, but now what do i put in for server? and what do i check, the pop?

Posted by: L Bo

I've been using Gmail with Profimail for some time now since the built in 910a client doesnt support the ssl connection needed to access their site. Nice prog except it DRAINS the battery something terrible and its not push (although you can set it to check every minute like push). Also no mail indicator.

I'm going to look for another push app that will work the way I want.

Hope this helps someone!

Did you just sign up for the free account? I'd hate to pay for an account that will just forward email to me.

I did get my gmail account to work with the help of dasilva, too, but it's in t-zones like others have said which is annoying. Read one email and then you can't go back to it later. Quite annoying.

Posted by: NoMSG

I've tried all sorts of methods to get gmail to appear in the P910a's email client. I did get the email to appear in the t-zones web browser but it's not what I'm looking for.

Then I tried the auto setup pages on the T-Mobile site hoping one of those would solve my problem. Nope.

Then I tried the hotpop method and then forward my gmail email to hotpop. I do receive an SMS message when incoming email is received but I can't get to the email in the email client. I've tried three of the four GPRS connection methods: GPRS-GPRS, T-MobileInternet-GPRS and T-Zones GPRS-GPRS. The only one that gives any type of response (besides a time out) is T-MobileInternet-GPRS and that says "Problem copying messages Activation rejected". Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Can someone with the hotpop/gmail setup help me verify settings? Or someone who actually got their P910a to receive gmail via the built-in client help me out? Thanks!

Posted by: NoMSG

Hmm, my phone must be retarded. I followed your settings *EXACTLY* yet all I get is a time out and then the SMS comes in (slower than a snail) telling me I have a message. Grrr....Might this be a firmware issue or something else I haven't thought about?

Posted by: sdsviet

well im running a p900 and ur running a p910. difference in the way the p910 is set up maybe?

Posted by: NoMSG

Yeah, might be some stupid setting I don't have correct. Probably need to talk to T-Mobile about this. Thanks for your help, though!
