Help needed on cdm9900 WAP!

I was able to use free WAP when I first got the phone in Oct, but now when I try to browse the web, it gives me the mesg "HTTP Error: 403 Forbidden"

Please help me solve this problem. All my settings are as described in free WAP threads. Thanks!

Only way to solve the problem at the moment is to crack open the wallet and pay for mobile web. Verizon did something on November 12 to close the loophole.

Maybe they didn't change your market yet.

really dont understand how they can control your web access when you have complete control over the IP and Port info. what does it matter if you use their ip or your own. you still get charged airtime. why should they care.

a verizon rep told me they have no real economical way to track every phones usage. just went on a trip up the east coast and it worked in every state. and thats jumping from tower to tower.

In the end I just decided to use my own wap server and I couldn't be happier! The things it does are so much better than what the verizon wap had to offer.

How did you do that?

I used the nowwap software

Are you running behind a router?

Posted by: GENEius

Yes I am

GENEius -

I tried using nowwap before but was unsure what to use for the secure port.. What did you enter to get that to work?

Posted by: GENEius

I set up port forwarding through my router to use 9201

I downloaded nowwap and this is a little too confusing for me! lol! I set up the connection thru Internet Explorer and it wanted to dial a connection -- I use a cable modem. Then it wouldn't let me use IE at all -- so I removed the wap connection. :-( I have NO idea what I am doing.

In version 2.53, the only settings i had to make any changes to was in the Http tab. I enabled wap proxy, chose a port, enabled compression, wtcp and ssl. Then I checked my IP address and put that into my phone in the place of verizon's IP and changed my port. From then on I was good to go.

Ok, I did all that and forwarded the port on the router. All i get is "request times out" when I try to get on the web by phone.

Is your IP address static?

Yeah, it is.

In the meantime I found a list of free wap servers listed in HoFo and logged into one of them. Works fine! :-) Now to see how long it is up and running!

OK,

Now I'm gonna show my ignorance..... How EXACTLY did you change your phone to a free wap server? I had opened an account on MSN for VZW and just changed the home page in the phone, but of course now that is closed.....I do not have a router or much advanced computer knowledge. I'm still on dial-up!!! Anywho...is there any way I can just change something in the phone only to achieve what we lost (Free WAP)? Thanks in advance.

I got into the hidden menu (menu7**) then went to settings, then web settings, then proxy 0. Changed the ip address to one on the list of free web severs (http://www.publicproxyservers.com/index.html) and don't forget to change the ports too) also changed proxy 1 to the same address. I left my homepage as vzw.msn.com and just use the search/bookmarks listing. That way I can use the "go to" to type in a wap page address.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I don't know the answer. After getting to the ip address I could not find how to change it. Hitting left or right keys just went to next or the last step, same with the clear button.

Thanks for any help!

LOL! I thought I was the only one that encountered this! I tried the same as you... then I tried the obvious... just type in the number! As soon as you hit a number the old ip address is overwritten! Make sure you make it 12 numbers. If the address is 12.333.4.567 make it 012.333.004.567

i got one of the ip's off the list followed the directions to put it in and when i try to go to a site all it says is malformed url. I tried going to other sites and what not but it still doesnt seem to wanna work.

I followed the instructions and am now able to get to vzw.msn.com but if I try to visit anywhere else after that I get the Forbidden 403 message. Any ideas?

i have a similar problem too...i my free wap was working yesterday then i tried to get on in the evening and it said "Network Unavailable. Retry Later" then i change the IP to a couple other ones that were working for me and i got a message quite similar to the one above....i'm hoping something is just wrong with alltel in my area and not my phone, does any body know whats going on?
