just wondering.... for those of you who drive sports cars, how do you get around during the winter months?

I drive an Audi TT Quattro. This thing is a sled in the winter. BUt I need to ditch the 18" wheels for winter tires. It kicks SUV's a*& in the snow!

i wanna be anal about this so.....
wouldn't 18" rims be a downgrade in performance?
i really don't think the word performance should be in front of 18" rims

then what is performance? 19" or 20"?

it depends on the car, you get performance boot on most cars up to around 18" or 19" after that you dont get much back, besides bent rims, and beeing a great player at "spot the pot hole"

I drove my mustang all winter long... RWD and 500hp in the Snow!!! hehe

Not much changed... I'd swap off the 18" tires and rims and put on the 17's and snow tires. Chains if I needed 'em.

Where I work, it snows 8/12 months of the year so I got used to driving on snow. 80km/hr on a 12" wide road in a 4WD crewcab.
16' of snow... hardpacked into sheet ice. No problems.

are chains better or are studded tires better for driving in the snow/ice?

Chains are usually used for deep snow.
Studded tires are better for ice. Generally speaking

But the new high tech winter tires are the best overall performer.
And u can still add studs.
Of course if you find yourself constantly with chains on
a bombairier would probably be a better choice.

i thought a vic is a crown victoria

the smaller the better for performance

Most women would disagree.

I think that the narrower the tire footprint the better the
winter perfomance. All with in reason.
