getting down the mp3 in midi format under 30 KB

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I got it to work on my Lg vx 700 but when I change a mp3 to a midi and put it in audacity mp3 editor and trim it to 30 secs the size is too big for my wife's 6000 the file size is usually 45 kb or higher.

Any suggestions to make the midi file smallerusing audacity or other method. I trim the mp3 to 20 secs and still the same results.

p.s. I usually get a mp3 and put it in audacity and I trim it to smaller size , then I export the mp3 and I change the extension from mp3 to midi, then I email it to the phone. As I said it works fine with my phone even if the size is over 40 kb but not with my wife phone.
TIA

Im wondering the reason I can play the midi converted from mp3 on my 7000 b/c it can play mp3.

And my wife phone the 6000 cannot.

Anyone knows.

The vx6000 has the same capabilities as do all the LG poly ringer phones do, but !

The sample rate needs to be set at 16000 @ 32bit mono. Audacity will let you change this from a stereo mp3 file. Import the mp3, set the project rate to 16000 ( from 44100 that is defalt) and choose "Quick Mix". This will blend both left and right channels together. Select the left channel and change it to mono. Edit the song to about 30sec. , this will keep the file size at between 76k to 108k when saved in mp3 format. Also pay attention to the level, when playing it. If it is to loud, reduce the out put level to -6db and resave it.

is there a program for downloading ringtones from your computer? I have a lg 4010, and was wondering if that is possible? Thanks

if i send to my 6100 through vzpix i can send up to 100k. i send 30 second clips at 22khz 32kbs mono and they work great. i just use sound forge to edig an mp3 change to mono save as and convert to that rtesolution.. then after i cut the 30second clip out i want i jsut rename the ringer.mp3 to ringer.mid and send throught the vz web page.. never failed so far

I use audacity ( i think i was one of the earliest adopters)

I set my export for 16Khz and 16 bit data and use mono

depending on the clip ,sizes usually endup between 20k to 60k

Ok, I drag a mp3 song to audacity, I trim it to 30 secs.
then, I change the bit rate to 16 and change the sample rate to 16000.

What I can't do is change it to stereo , when I click on the name , the mono level is grayed out. How can I change it to mono.

Also, I have tried to split the sound ,left and right but when I export the mp3 is still too large.

And, I have gone to preference and file format and changed the bit rate to 92 and not 128 default for mp3 and the selection on input is CD audio.

Still cannot get the file size to 30 KB.

Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong?

Break it down for me.( idiot proof way).

TIA

Keep bit rate set to 32bit !!! and the default file at 128bit or the sound quality will be the ?@#$%@. As I posted above you need to do a quick mix which will blend both chanels together. Then choose "split stereo tracks" ,this will then let you change the left channel to mono. Delete the right channel. Fine tune you sound and save it.

the problem is not sending the file under 30k. yes, the phone will accept it over 30k, the problem is saving the sound to use as a viable media file for ringers. the 6000's limit for saveable sound media files is 30k. i have tried the processes described here and i can only trim 30sec down to around 58k, still not enough. In order to get the sound file to save on the phone i can only have about 10 sec. of sound! hardly worth it IMO.
if there are any solutions, i'd love to know.

Something I'm doing is wrong. After I pull up the mp3 in audacity, I click on MIX and then go to SET RATE and click on 16000. right after that when I play the song, it sounds like the song has been slowed down about 10x and the voice sounds like an electric man. What am I doing wrong? This is before I do any of the other settings.

same here. got them under 30k, but its not even 10 sec of sound

Posted by: koojo

Can someone just PLEASE do a complete write up on how to do this in audacity, because I'm having problems following the directions above, and it seems to me that others are too. Thank you

I Agree :-). I've tried making my own ringtones, and I still get the song slowed down x10. If anybody can make some step by step detailed instructions, that would be awsome. Thanks!

I said screw this audacity crap, I downloaded Goldwave. In that program, after I cut the song to around 30 seconds, I go to the save menu, and it gives me, in a list of all the different bit rates, sample rates, blah blah blah all on one screen. Choose what you want, and click save, and you're all done. Works faster than audacity too

Posted by: Orlando_65

Tried goldwave....it sucked! I might not be able to work it all that well, but give me Audacity ANY day. The only thing I need, is how to get my songs to go from 64kbps to 16kbps or less. It'll make the quality not as good, but that's all you can send through the Verizon site. Not to mention the Lg Vx6100's cable isn't at my Radio Shack yet! (any help with changing the kbps would be AWSOME.)

Posted by: koojo

Why does goldwave suck? You load the mp3, you trim it to whatever length and part you want, and then you click SAVE AS.. and the save window pops up and you can choose everything there as far as quality goes. It doesn't get any easier than that believe me

Posted by: Orlando_65

I guess because I didn't install that MP3 encoder. Anyway, Do you know how to change the kbps koojo?

Posted by: koojo

That MP3 decoder that you are talking about is just one file:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/d....shtml?lame_enc

download this lame_enc.dll and put it in your c:\windows\system32, and you should be good to go with goldwave.

To change kbps, when you click on SAVE AS, at the bottom will be a drop down list with all the different kbps, bit rate and sample rate vales....very very easy. choose the one you want and click save, and voila.

Posted by: shadow_horizon

its in the options for standrad mp3 format, i believe

Posted by: Orlando_65

Going to re-download Goldwave then. Hopefully it'll be easier. But last time that I made a ringtone and tried to ''Save As'', it didn't give me any options like the one's you're describing. If anyone can help, that'd be grrrreat!

Posted by: Orlando_65

YEAH! I got it!!!, finally! Thanks everybody. Goldwave OFFICIALLY rawks! Thanks again!

Posted by: APVZWUser

koojo,

i finally got the songs to play on my phone but it still sounds a little choppy, what is the highest quality, bit rate...blah blah, that you can send?

Posted by: shadow_horizon

using 16000Hz @16kbps, mono the longest clip i can get is about 14.23 seconds, any longer and its over the 30kb filesize limit to save as a ringtone (on the VX6000, not sure what filesize limit is on other models). and, yes Goldwave for sure kicks a$$!!

Posted by: koojo

On the 7000, it has a 4mb memory just for ringtones, so it doesn't really matter how small or long you make a particular song. I usually do about 22500Hz or so @ 32kbps mono. The songs come out to be around 100kb or so, and they sound great! But play around, use different sound qualities and see which one sounds best on your phone

From what I'm getting is that you guys are sending the file through Verizon's site vtext.com ? Am I right on this ?

If so , this is were your file limit of 30k is coming from not the phones req.s.
If you load a song from sony musicbox, you will get a file around 76k +/-. The only way to get the full benifits of making your own polydigital ring tones from mp3's are to load them directly with a data cable from your PC. 32kbps @ 16000hz sample rate is the best quality/filesize trade off that you get from SONY MusicBox.

no, the PHONE brings up a prompt saying "file size must be under 30kb" and it wont let you save it - period.
i've done this dozens of times, using e-mail (number@vzwpix.com) and verizon's site - same result. the phone is only setup to allow you to save ringtones smaller than 30kb. UNLESS someone has tried it with the data cable. and, no, i'm not saying to just send it to the phone, actually save it as a SOUND. i can get the files onto the phone, but not save them as SOUNDS!

as far as sound quality goes, it sucks. vocals come through like crap, the highest frequency you can go is 16000, any higher, and you have to go down to 8kbps or under 5 seconds or so. i made one with linkin park's "my december", you can hardly hear what they're saying.

IMO - the VX6000 just wasn't designed to handle mp3 tones - both in saveable filesize and in speaker quality. they both suck

Posted by: Orlando_65

I have an LG VX6100, and it plays my ringtones just fine. I send them to the phone using the vzw pix-place. I've only tried sending the clips at 16000 + 16bit mono, and they work fine. The sound quality is a little choppy, but not the point where you can't tell what the song is saying. Besides, I bought a cell phone, not an mp3 player.

Posted by: Orlando_65

Okay...i don't know if it's just me, but the stupid pix-place site doesn't let you upload your music files anymore (even after you change the file extension to ".mid") If anybody can figure the site out, that'd be great
