Anyone else have/had problems getting your device activated?

I also have a T3, but picked up the Zire and wanted to use Audible with it instead. The program is installed on the Zire, but it won't communicate with it at all.

Thnx

Have you gotten it working on the T3 previously and it doesn't work with the Z71? Have you installed the Audible Manager for Windows? Have you gone through activating the device in Audible Manager?

Thinking about it, I didn't get it to work correctly with the T3 either. Now, the device was able to activate and it would connect, but for some reason I couldn't send the program to my memory card.

Maybe there's another download (an older version) for the Zire 71. It's not a Palm 5 OS is it?

Both the Zire 71 and T3 are OS5.

Make sure you have both Audible Manager in Windows running and Audible player running on the Palm at the same time for the them to communicate with each other. You're transferring the audible (ebook) files in .aa format so that you can listen to them on the Palm via Audible player.

Maybe try downloading the latest Audible Manager:

http://www.audible.com/software

Select the link to Download for Windows, and in the next page, select Palm OS5 devices and click on the Download button.

Install the Audible Manager program. Add your device. (File, Devices, Add New Device). Activate your device. (File, Devices, Activate/Deactivate).

In the bottom screen/window, it should say Audible Programs on PalmOne Handheld. Make sure that the Storage Card is the one selected and not the Main Memory since most ebooks are too big to be fit in the Zire 71's RAM. If you are using a card reader, you can select that and then transfer the file to the card reader. That might be the way to go via the card reader if you can't get the palm and the Audible manager to communicate.

In order to transfer the file, you have to right click and select the Add to PalmOne handheld or click on the top left hand corner button that says the same thing. If the Palm and the Windows program is communicating correctly, the Windows program should show the Audible books in the Palm and how much space is left.

Thanks! I will give it a try again.

Now I'm having trouble downloading the audible programs I've bought already. I know that I have to save it in Format 2 for Palm devices. However, when I try to download, it comes out as a text file. I even tried saving it as "all types" of file, but it's still no use. I'll prob. have to contact Audible. Thanks again for the help--now I can listen to "The Kid Stays in the Picture" Thank goodness I already had that saved in the correct format!

If you're downloading from the Audible site (after logging into your account) and you get to the My Library page and you select format 2 and click on the Download button, it (your browser) should prompt you on what you want to.

In my Firefox, it tries to open an adh file which I've selected Audible Manager to deal with it and in my case, it runs aw_helper.pl .

If you get it done correctly, Audible Manager will run. Wait for a little while since the program will try to detect if your Palm is connected and if you've got Audible player running in your Palm and communicate with it. Then, the download of your Audible book will download. Once downloaded, you can transfer a copy to your Palm.

I get a daily dose of Wall Street Journal and since I've got the settings to automatically download the new subscription daily, I only have to open up Audible Manager, connect my Palm to it and the download happens and goes into my Palm.

So, should I have Audible running on the computer? I do get the aw_helper.pl but it saves in txt format (like in wordpad.) I don't remember having all these troubles when I used to use a Pocket PC, downloading the files. I'd hate to have to go back to burning them on multiple cdrs

Only open and run Audible Manager when you need to download the Audible ebook and transferring the files over to the Palm. Once it's done, EXIT the program. Make sure it's not still running in the system tray. That's what I do.

As for the saving the file in txt format, you have to assign Windows to open the adh file with Audible manager. Obviously it looks like it's mistakenly set up to open up Wordpad or whatever. And you're NOT SAVING the file like you would do with most files like zip, etc.

You MUST let Audbile deal with the whole download process, transferring, etc since the files are copyright encrypted. Dealing with the files with other download managers, or via your browser, etc whether downloading, copying, etc without using Audible Manager won't work.

Even if you have the file and paid for it, sending the same file to a friend won't help him at all since it's copyright encrypted and only you are allowed to listen to it. You can burn it onto CDs and then distribute it that way. Manipulating the files in any other way won't work.
