trying to reprogram virgin mobile k9 for use with another provider...please help

okay, I have a kyocera k9 programmed through virgin mobile. I want to switch it over to another service provider. I was able to get to the program menu using 847446 as the code (VIRGIN). When I went to get it switched over the code didn't work anymore, and even the ## VIRGIN I used originally to program the phone through them doesn't even work. Is there anyway to get the programming code for this phone, besides trying every number 000000 to 999999. I really don't want to do that, Please if anyone can help please email me kendallbergeron@yahoo.com
Thanks

Try 092073. Good luck.

I would first call the service provider you want to use and try activating the phone. One of the first questions they'll ask you is what is the ESN. If it's not a model they support, no amount of programming is going to do you any good. If it is a model they support, they'll tell you the codes to put in.

well i dont think another carrier will have the spc codes for vm but asking them if they'll allow that ESN is a good tip...although you can always change the phone's ESN number as well to a working ESN on the new carrier's network.

don't get discouraged by naysayers, phones were designed to be reprogrammable

try 847446 or 040793 (both are vm codes)

good luck

also, with a data cable, see if there is a file on your phone named nvm.security your SPC code will be there in plain text

i do have a data cable and using bitpim i can get the file system up. but when I try to access any of the files it causes an error, i can't even change or copy ringtones. its like the phone will let you see files but not read anything. I was originally able to get to the programming menu using the code 847446, but a friend was messing with it and reset the phone after 5 trys in the program menu. Now the phone seems locked up, it works with VM but is locked up to everything else. If any one has any ideas, please let me know. I have heard that there is a programming flaw with the k9 thats why they're so cheap, so maybe Im stuck with it. BUt who knows.........anyone with any input please forward it to me if possible. Thanks!

just to be clear, you get errors in bitpim when saving the file to your harddrive ? did you even see nvm.security on there?

i can see the file of nvm security, nut when i try to read it, or do the hexdump, or backup files the error screen comes up. I have a Kyocera balde and I m able to access everything. But the k9 it wont let me do anything. even the kyocera desktop software wont read the ringtones on the k9, only the contacts. But like I said the phone will let bitpim see the files but you cant do anything with them, any advice??

hmm that does sound like a programming bug...have you tried while the phone is in download mode? you can change modes with the pst...and even in gagin if it'll work

if you can please elaborate more on that, what I can do. I d appreciate it. I cant get pst to do anything because I dont have programming code, I havent tried gagin yet. But I really haven't had much luck with anything else.

there are different modes the phone can be in..for example, while syncing your phone's database of contacts with the kyocera phone desktop sw, it goes into download mode.

bitpim will still read the phone while in download mode and that may be a workaround for getting nvm.security off the phone (just to be sure, you are right clicking on the nvm.security file and you do the option to save as.. right?)

i think bitpim lets you switch modes, though since i dont' have it here at work i can't double check..but gagin does, i think
