best cdm 9900 data cable?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

just wondering, all 9900 data cable owners, what cable do you have, does it have a noggin in the middle, and would you recommend it for use as a wireless modem/eventual bitpim use?

I usually like to stick to the OEM verizon MOK versions, but this one has a noggin in it, and if its possible to get one w/o a noggin i would prefer it.

thanks all...

Hello ... I have a future dial cable from ebay and it works great to dial out of. I can not charge with it but I am not sure if any do.

This one does not have a noggin in it, its just straight USB cable.

Thanks for the reply. i saw that ad myself... you said that it was the futuredial one. was it hard to find drivers for that one? or did you buy it with a driver CD?

Hey had a link with the ad. I downloaded them and installed them with no problem. I had used the verizon dialer before and would of liked to keep using it but I could not get it to work.

Not a big deal, I setup a DUN and its easier.

Only strange thing, and this is for all cables, is that if you put it in another USB port it gets assigned another com port. You should be consistant so you do not have to change your setting in DUN.

After getting your previous post i picked up a futuredial cable on ebay. it says that the futuredial program doesn't work with the 9900, but i'm hoping i can dig up the same driver as you. I'll have to take a look at the 9900 yahoo group, maybe they have the driver there.

I had the same problem with all my previous phones with the whole com port issue. pretty annoying, but i guess it makes sense if you wanted to run multiple phones to get a faster download.

Actually, i might give that a try... I'll cluster mine and my girlfriends and fathers phones onto my computer and see what kind of bandwidth i can pull! maybe i can get 60K!

anyone ever done that?

Here is some information that was sent to me from a company selling the futuredial cable:

With this cable you can set up your Audiovox CDM9900 / 9950 phone as model. Connecting to internet is the feature that is controlled or have some restriction by your wireless service provider. Some service provider do not let you connect internet and some let you.
Internet is full of how to by pass. Here is one link
http://www.poremsky.com/p/verizonwireless.htm

We only sell data cable. We do not provide the support. We provide the tools and helpfull hints. Futuredial do not support Audiovox CDM9950/9900 phone. It is the same cable that Toshiba VM4050 uses. In fact, Toshiba VM4050 is the same phone as Audiovox CDM9950/9900. The difference is VM4050 is with Sprint PCS and CDM9950 is with Verizon.

Stupid question - what do you use a data cable for with the cdm-9900? Or any cell phone for that matter?

Posted by: davieboynj

We use the cable so that we can screw around with the phones on our computers. It also lets us connect to the internet for free when we're on vacation, or in the airport, or whatever.

the noggin is just an annoying lump of plastic in the middle of the cable that connects the computer to the phone.

What kinda stuff can you do?

It depends on the phone and the software you use. With my old T730 I could upload wallpapers and ringtones to the phone, backup my phonebook and calendar, change the PRLs. It was nice to bypass the GIN charges.

I think the 9900 only allows PRL and ERI changes with the cable, but I haven't received my cable yet to see what I can actually do.

are you able to see the Brew directory on the phone when you have it plugged into your computer? What are you using to view the file structure? BitPim? GAGIN?

No, I used the Moto PST program the techs use. You can get it off the Yahoo T720/730 groups.

It shows a Brew file but since I don't use Brew I never did anything with it.

Hey Shack...
Are you also using that data cable to transfer ringtones to the fone and photos to the 'puter?

Posted by: ShackAttack

No....I have not. I just use the picture messaging to send myself photos and ringers. I trim the photos and the ringers and just send 3-5 in a pix message to myself. Works great and no "learning" curve.
