Standby time for Audiovox CDM9900?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

phonescoop.com says that the standby time for the Audiovox CDM9900 is 380 hours. I'm getting about 48 hours of standy time. I work in a building that doesn't give me a good signal/reception. Sometimes I have no signal, other times I have a bar or two.

Out of curiosity, what the best standby times that people are getting for this phone?

I don;t have a 9900, but standby/talk time for cdma phones can be badly affected by poor/no signal areas-

I imagine stand by time is calculated with best signal avaiable--

My sprint phones' battery would actually get warm from searching ,during a time last year, when my local tower went down for a few weeks--it was really weird, until I read this was the nature of a cdma phone.

My vzw phone will do the same but not to the same extent--other than that, how do you like the 9900--what phone did it replace, etc?

Check out instructions in this forum about setting the 9900 to CDMA-only. That may increase battery time becasue the phone won't try to roam on analog if it loses signal.

I'll speak to that - switching my 9900 to cell only was able to improve my standby time quite a bit...the building I am in has pretty poor reception.

Analog roaming is even worse. Here is an old article which covers some this this.

The article seems to pretty well explain most of this stuff.

The 9900 is great so far. I upgraded from a VX4400 and the LCD on the 9900 is larger, brighter, and the colors are crisper. The standby time is about 2x longer than my VX4400. The reception is slightly better; I can make calls in some areas of the building where I work. With the VX4400, I was getting no signal in the same areas.

Can you point me to the thread? I did a search and couldn't find it..

- Turn off phone, turn on phone

- Right after phone boots, hit left soft menu key, then 7, then asterix twice

- For FSC Code, enter zero six times and hit the Select key

- Hit '3' for Pref Mode

- Go down to "CDMA Only" and hit select, debug menu will exit on its own

You can repeat the process to make sure the "CDMA Only" setting stuck.

Watch your roaming indicator after you do this... I originally had it on "Digital Only" and sometimes roamed off Verizon. I haven't had that happen since I changed to "CDMA Only".

Hey I tried that but it did not work for me.

Are you talking about the menu key that is by itself at the very top on the left? I hit it during boot, didnt work, did it after it booted, still did not work when i press it then 7 it just takes me to the setting menu

nevermind i got it to work, but i set it on CDMA only and now it roams in digital mode.

What do I need to set my system mode to in regular settings? Auto A, Auto B or Home only?

I wouldn't mess with any other settings... like I said, if it is roaming strangely then put it back to "Automatic".

oh ok thanks. I think I am trading in for a 6015i tomorrow anyway. This thing jumps to analog way too much, get quite frustrating.

Change the setting to Digital only. When mine was set to CDMA (as I did for my VX10) it went into extended network. In Digital only it works fine. Alwasy stays in network--not extended.

Well I have tried everything, every single option in that menju, and the phone begins to roam. lol I think something must have messed up because now it roams in Automatic mode.

Agreed about the standby time vs the VX4400. Even with the extended battery, I was swapping batteries every 36-48 hours with the VX4400 under moderate use. Now with the 9900 and an extended battery, I'm getting about 96+ hours of standby with moderate use.
