Found a Kyocera Slider

I found this a while back. All of the info on it had been erased, and the service was already canceled, so it would be hard or impossible to find the original owner. So I figure their loss is my gain. Anyway, is there any way so I can set it up to use those prepaid cards (From 7-11 and such)(I dont really have any choice. I dont have a credit card or any other method of paying them, so I figure I just use it for emergencies and recharge it whenever I have the cash)? How would I do it? And will I be issued a new number? Is the process free? And what if the owner reported the phone lost or stolen? Would I get busted or anything? (No, I highly doubt its stolen, but you can never be too sure. And maybe the owner was an idiot and though he/she got pickpocketed or something :-/
Anyway, any and all help will be greatly appreciated ^_^

I also forgot to mention that the phone has the Verizon logo on it, that should help someone help me, I hope

Nope. The Kyocera slider is a CDMA phone and cannot be used on any other network other than Verizon. The 7-11 prepaid service works through Cingular's GSM/TDMA network, IIRC.

Go to a Verizon store, tell them you found a phone. They will help you return it to the rightful owner. Then the nice people there can sell you a nice new phone of your very own.
