N-gage recognizes PS2 system

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When I plugged in my usb cable for my n-gage to my PS2. I turned it on and my n-gage recognized it. I tried going in to the memory card while it was connected it says memory card in use. But then when I look at the screen on my ps2. It says no data. Has anybody ever tried this before?

I got bored the other day, and I saw a usb port on it so I just wanted to see what would happen. Unfortunnetly. Nothing happened. So. But it's good to know.

does xbox have a usb port? try that with ngage as well

Technically every controller port on the Xbox is a USB port (and thus every controller is a USB controller). The only difference is that it's shaped differently. You can get a free (+$7 shipping and handling) USB adapter from Microsoft. It was meant for use with PSO Online and a USB keyboard, but other people get them to turn their xboxes into Linux boxes with keyboard/mouse, etc.

In fact, you can even get an adapter (not from microsoft) to use your xbox controllers on a PC or Mac since they're just USB devices in the first place. Drivers are easy to find too.

so u think we'll be able to get it working with the ngage?

Nah. That's unfortunately not the way USB works. You'd need a driver on the N-Gage to reroute the screen API calls over USB, plus a USB HID driver and an application on the other side to know what to do with them. PS2 shows up on the N-Gage screen because devices are supposed to announce themselves on the bus. The PS2 doesn't recognize the N-Gage because Sony only has USB HID drivers for a keyboard and mouse on the PS2, so that's all it will ever expect to see.

It's probably not impossible to write an application to do that sort of video re-routing (especially with mod-chips and home-brew applications being possible) - at least on the PC/Xbox side - but that's quite a task. Maybe simulate the N-Gage as a webcam? I'm not sure if Series 60 has any API framework that could be adapted to do that... Intriguing concept.

Neat idea in connecting them to begin with though. Seeing that, I plugged my iPod into the PS2's Firewire port and a Sony exec popped up on my screen telling me I should convert all of my music to the far superior Sony proprietary ATRAC format, and that Apple is the devil. Crazy ash Sony...

sounds complicated..sad to hear but oh well~ in the fuutre maybe?
