A1K screen protection? + charging battery

its my first time using a touch screen product ... just wondering how do you guys clean your screen? Does it requires a protection film? Would that help?
how the case of the phone covers the screen leaves a tiny gap and i notice some dust hiding in there! 
currently I am using a fibre cloth, similar to those glasses wipes, to clean the surface, but its hard to reach inside the gap. Suggestions?
Another question is about charging battery...
Do you guys (perhaps same for all mobile UIQ phones) charge the phone having it switched off? I been told to charge the phone 18-24 hours for the initial charge - the other three charges I had about... 12, 10 and 8 .. approx. Is it okay to have the phone charge on the cradle with the phone switched on for overnight? or whenever I am not using it?
