Unlocked 6820, Is it possible to choose a network?

I just picked up an unlocked 6820 off of ebay. Is it possible to browse available networks and selectively join one? I have a modded moto I've been using for about one year that can do this with a special flash/flex. Thanks.

I think it depends on on the sim card. some will let you while others will not.
