I can't get the serial cable to work! Would you help?

I'm so pissed off. I bought a DIC-1100 cable to connect my CDM-8600 to the computer and I can't make it work. I tried everything, COM1, COM2, different baud rates, change the baud rate on the phone (##2283), it just doesn't want to work. I tried with two different computers and I even got the cable replaced and it didn't make any difference.
What could I be doing wrong??? Thanks a lot!
