Signal on the 9900

So I got a 9900 with Verzion. Rather pleased with it except for two major quirks. The first involves signal strentgh....

It shows a weaker signal all over the place than I ever got with my Kyocera. In addition, it even went over to analog tonight, in an area I had always had digital on! Will this problem resolve itself if I disable the analog stuff on the phone? If so, what would even be the advantage of having a tri-mode phone?

The other quirk, does anyone know if I can set vibrate on the the volume keys on the side, and is there a way to get the phone to vibrate AND ring at the same time?

Overall, great phone. Good camera, and good screen. Decent reception, but still not as good as the kyocera I had. Phone feels solid in your hand, and I've already dropped it once with no damage. Charges FAST and comes with lots of ringtones, although some are kind of quiet...

I don't have any problems with signal strength. I made calls from inside stores that I never could with my moto v120 or the lg vx6000. I even called from my friend's basement which I never got a signal with any other phone.

The ring AND vibrate is not available, but complain to verizon and tell them you are requesting a software/firmware update. If enough of us make a fuss, they just might listen.

i agree. you can't get hung up on the "bars" thing, otherwise we'd all be using sprint.

disabling the analog is a good idea when you don't leave digital zones for the most part. Just remember how to enable it when you find yourself out in the boondocks.

Don't worry about the signal bars. They are just less generous than other brands. Each manufacturer has different measurement scales so bars just can not be compared.

As for analog, mine behaves the same way but only in two places that I know have poor reception. I suspect but am not sure that it has something to do with the volume of calls on the tower because it only happens certain times of day and very rarely on weekends. The positive features of this phone outweigh that.

There is no vibrate and ring but you can set the vibrate ringer quickly by pressing and holding the * key. You can also turn off the ringer by holding the down side volume key.

So what are all the posts about when they're talking about locking their phones onto CDMA? Should I do this?

And also, is there anyway to get the phone not to beep before it starts playing the ringtone?

The beep is a Caller ID Alert. To change it press Menu, Settings, 1, 5, 1. Switch to off.

You would have to enter the programing mode. I wouldn't do this unless I knew what I was doing. I've never done it
