My Dad was saying something about hearing on Rush Limbaugh about exploding Kyoceras, LGs' and Audiovoxs'. Anyone heard about this?

only exploding cell phones i know of are the ones where people buy cheap replacement batteries. the battery is what explodes.

A teenager in San Diego recently dropped his cell phone, and it exploded. I think I heard that Verizon is paying for his medical bills. You could search for it in the local paper at www.uniontrib.com

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has gotten 83 reports over the last two years of cellphone batteries catching fire and sometimes 'exploding'. They said that most cases were caused by counterfeit batteries or chargers. Verizon and Kyocera both recalled some batteries. Kyocera said that their supplier had let their standards slip. Verizon might have gotten a batch of counterfeit batteries.

Your chances of encountering a burning or exploding battery in any given year seems to be about 1 in 4 million. (83 cases across 170 million cellphone users across two years)

ahhh i read an artical on this, kyocera batteries were found being made with unfit parts in Mexico! Look it up on google!

I had a Kyocera phone, and the battery technically "exploded" but it was really more like a little pop followed by the ooze in the Ni-MH battery foaming out...quite annoying more than anything really...but in either event it wasnt anything that would cause any serious injury outside of maybe a chemical burn providing you weren't smart enough to get the phone away from you.
