MPX 220 - How is the movie playback?

Hello all,

I am very close to buying a MPX 220 but I want to hear other users' opinions on the multimedia playback of the phone.

1) Do the movies playback skip-free or lag-free when played fromt he memory card?

2) What format works best? Typical .3GP format or does Windows Media Encoder's .wma (mobile movies setting)?

The lagfree playback is probably the deal breaker for me in getting this phone. I had a E398 but it would always lag when playing back movies. I think it was a problem with the slow memory card transfer rate.

I found video playback to be smooth and overall acceptable on the mpx220 using Betaplayer. Betaplayer is free, will play native avi and mpeg files of most any size without any conversion. No skipping or lagging when I tested it.

Thanks for the response Ijitsu.

How does betaplayer handle codecs though? Can you play Xvids?

The windows media encoder (mobile settings) appeal to me cuz of the reduced filesize.

Movie playback is one of the biggest factors for me in getting this phone.

BTW, could an MPX 220 substitute as an Mp3 player? I would love to use this instead of my ipod (which is too buggy).

I believe it plays xvid, divx, mpeg1, etc. Do a google search for Betaplayer (maybe the site is www.betaplayer.com). Their page lists the codecs it can handle. I haven't been able to test the mp3 playback cababilities because I don't have a stereo headset yet, but I would assume that it's fine.

thanks Ijitsu, I'm really fiending for this phone now, but I want to make sure I can get the latest firmware from Amazon. Hopefully they will be selling the 1.3 version.

Anyone else have any comments about the multimedia abilities of the MPX 220?
