My N-Gage can't do multiple BT connections at the same time!

I though bluetooth could have 7 connections at a time! I'm using bluephone elite on my mac and it's connected to my N-Gage, I'd like to be able to use my BT headset with my n-gage while dialing with Bluephone elite, any way around this?

Posted by: angel_wing0

yeah i dont think it does mutli connections at the same time...

Posted by: microchip13

so even though it supports the BT spec 100%, it doesn't support multi connections? That's not cool.

Posted by: angel_wing0

thats the weakness of nokia BT...*shrugs*

Posted by: microchip13

Well, I hope sony ericsson does support multi connections. I wish nokia would come out with a flagship phone or something.

Posted by: angel_wing0

i think SE does...but not up to 7...maybe u should ask friedbrains...

Posted by: microchip13

It's not that importat, I think it does anyway, from my t68i.

no
my n-gage can ONLY connect 1 device at time

neither my T637
the headset is unable to connect when it's connected to my pda
it connects ONLY 1 device at a time

SE BT does multi-point connection as far as data is concerned

nokia BT does not do multi-point connection with data

however, both Nokia and SE, or any other BT phones for that matter will NOT do multi-point connection if Headset is involved... with HS it is always point-to-point

if you want PC connection while connected to phone and be able to do audio with BT headset, there is a way, but it depends what you want to do, and it involves audio gateway...

Posted by: microchip13

How would you do this audio gateway?

Posted by: angel_wing0

i guess give up the audio while conected?

SE phones do not support multi BT connections although it might appear so because the phones use the headset profile.

When a phone uses the headset profile the phone and the headset only maintain an active connection when actually having a conversation, giving the illusion of maintaining multiple BT connections.

In the case of Nokia and other phones that use the handsfree profile the audio connection is always maintained.

so yeah..u are out of luck...maybe the 3rd gen ngage?

Posted by: xgambit

then how does the ngage play games that have more than 2 player through BT? that would mean, at least one ngage has 2 Bt connections on simultaneously.

Posted by: angel_wing0

well i guess ngage-to-ngage connections are special

good question thou...

Wirelessly posted (Nokia 3650 v2.54 via T-Mobile: Nokia3650/1.0 SymbianOS/6.1 Series60/1.2 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

Well its certainly possible for nokia to allow for multiple but they haven't so far, perhaps in this case they'Ve done a time sharing type connection. Assuming more than two ngages can play head2head via bt.

Depending on the game, yes, up to four people can play multiplayer N-Gage games over Bluetooth.

The way I understand it, for multiplayer BT games one person decides to be the host N-Gage. So in effect this person's N-Gage will become the server for the whole game. If I were to design a system like that, all other players would only really be bluetooth linked to the server (or else it's packet chaos), and the server N-Gage could communicate to the other devices either in parallel (requiring multiple simultaneous connections) or in serial (and quickly connect/disconnect individually). Knowing how slow BT can be to connect/transfer/disconnect, it's probably more likely to have persistent connections than the converse. So either Nokia is the first manufacturer to really work out doing multiple simultaneous connections, or perhaps they've written a special Bluetooth profile only for N-Gages (or my entire hypothesis is wrong and all devices are connected to all other active devices and they all communicate with each other constantly).

Anyone tried running a multiplayer BT N-Gage game on a non-NG device? That would see if it's a Nokia's BT implementation thing, or something specific to the N-Gage.

Well, it does make sense a little bit. But still, one N-Gage must be connected to 3 other N-Gage's. So it's strange it cant connect to more then 1 device.

Posted by: angel_wing0

tried it b4 actually...played it with 2 ngage and a 7610b...and it worked out fine

Then it's probably a matter of what kinds of devices that are trying to be used simultaneously that determines how many can connect if any at all. Headsets in an active call might not permit sharing their BT connection to the phone because they want/need the bandwidth. But conversely, things like a keyboard, mouse, and potentially even just shuttling data between devices doesn't need as continuous a flow of information and would permit multiple connections.

I should've tested it while I had the 2nd QD here. D'oh...

nice one...

i wonder when ngage will be smart enough to create some mahjong games
