Koi KX2 - MP3 Ringtones?

I just picked up my KX2 and have been trying to get MP3 ringtones to work. I have encoded them at 16,000 hz, 24 kbps, changed the extension to MID and sent them to the phone using vzwpix.com. So far so good. The phone down loads the file but when I open the file it just freaks out and restarts. I have fallen in love with this phone so I would find it hard to send back if I cannot use MP3 ringtones. Has anyone else tried to get an MP3 on their Koi yet? If not anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any input!

Well after finding some information on a chipset that could be in the phone I found a list of supported codecs. I decided to try encoding in those formats. The first one that I tried was MP4 as that is what the video files produced by the phone are in. They didn't play either. The next format I tried was the AMR format used on Sony Erickson mobile phones. That worked! Using the Miksoft Mobile AMR Converter (http://miksoft.evzonastravel.com/mobileAMRconverter.htm) I created the ringtone, changed the extension to MID and sent it to the phone using VZWPIX.com. The it played fine, however the quality is not very good as AMR is designed as a voice codec not music. Tomorrow when I have more time I will try some of the other formats listed to see if I can get a better quality.
PS. Does anyone know exactly what chipset is in the Kyocera KX2?

You clip your mp3 down to about 24 seconds, then you need to convert to a 16-bit 8000 hz WAV. Using the MIKSOFT Mobile AMR software convert the WAV into an AMR file. Then change the extension from .AMR to .MID. Then attach the MID file to an email and send it to the phone using your @vzwpix.com address. You should then be able to assign it to the ringtones folder where you can select it as a ringer.

You cannot set an mp3 as ringtone. The supported formats are QCELP, AMR, and MIDI.
The chipset is 6100.
