Cingular & WAP

Hi! I just got my Siemens S40 over a week ago. It has firmware version 3.1.0 latest for the USA.
Now the phone is totally irritating me. When I got it, it works fine with WAP got it on 9/28, and now on 10/05 to 10/08 when I connect I can get to the homepage but when I select something it says sending then waiting - then network not responding.
I thought it was a network problem so I called Cingular and the clueless rep called tech support - tech support told him there was a problem they are working on it.
However, I try connecting to the WAP with my Nokia 7190 and it connects each and every single time beyond the homepage without a problem.
Anyone know if the Siemens phone requires different software on Cingular's end to work properly on the WAP or is there just something wrong with my phone.
I can't believe I actually did a phone upgrade to get this phone, I should of waited for the Nokia 8390 or Nokia 3395.

When I got my phone around 9/23, I did not have any problems getting through the internet. Now I keep getting the same message you are getting("network not responding") I called them a lot of time already and they said they only have an issue with the S40. Cingular told me that their "engineers" are working on it. It's kind of strange that it was working before and now it does not.

I just called them again tonight 10/17 for an update on the status of the situation.
Appearently, the fix is coming from Siemens and the problem should be fixed by 10/19. It is suppose to be a Siemens problem.
I asked a customer care rep and he said that Wireless Web activations are the same for all phones except the GRPS.
The tech also said they are getting a lot of complaints with the signal with this phone. In san Marino, CA by Pasadena this area is already a deadzone and the Nokia 3390 and Nokia 7190 will work here with 1 bar signal. The Siemens S40 I got will search for signal forever.
Forgot to mention, Cingular Customer Care said that by the end of the month a lot of cell sites will be turned up, it was part of a 6 month upgrade plan and it was like millions forgot exactly how many they have used to upgrade the system with most of it going to CA. They are already constructing a 4 way directional site at Huntington Drive / Atlantic Blvd. so this deadzone in San Marino, CA will go away!
Anyhow, I hope the fix does come as promised. Otherwise I will be paying the difference and getting the Motorola v66. Which well I would not be able to use the wireless web on that cause Cingular does not give out the settings.
So, I will just wait for VoiceStream and use it then with the Motorola.

Thanks for the great info PowerToBurn. I have an unlocked S40 and have yet to get it to work well with the Cingular network WAP service. I can't believe the tech people will not help customers program the settings to work with a non-Cingular phone.
I do notice the reception on the phone is a little week in SoCal, but I think this is more of a Cingular capacity problem. I was using my phone in Hawaii over the last week on the Voicestream network and I always had full bars. The phone worked perfectly there. Hopefully it was true that they will be turning up their cell sites otherwise this joint venture with Voicestream may be interesting.
Good luck.

YES, Hawaii, all too familiar for me. I used to work for Voicestream in Honolulu, HI and I love the full coverage everywhere I went. Even inside homes, where I lived. Inside malls.
The policy was that Voicestream puts cell sites every 1.5 mile to keep constant and consistant coverage. Hence, the 4 bars everywhere and good handoff.
So, when I moved back to the mainland with my PacBell phone I noticed the reception sucked and I wished I was back in Honolulu, HI.
Since, Voicestream is coming to L.A., I believe they have pressured Cingular into enforcing their 1.5 mile rule as well. Case in point - Along Huntington Drive in San Marino, Alhambra, South Pasadena, will soon have it's 1.5 mile.
Heading east to west.
The site at 2360 Huntington Drive - will fade off at St. Albans Road / Huntington Drive, however 1.2 miles west they are adding a site at 1219 North Atlanic Blvd, Huntington Drive / North Altantic Blvd, the Pizza Hut, so that will fill a hole in coverage there, then the next site is at 1499 Huntington Drive, in South Pasadena, this site heading east will fade right off at Atlantic / Huntington Drive - so I believe the new site at 1219 North Atlanic Blvd. is Voicestream pressuring Cingular into a 1.5 mile distance for the sites.
The new site is a 4 way directional site.

Any ideas on getting the S40 to work with the Cingular WAP service? I have an unlocked S40 picked up from a local store. I have been unsuccessful getting the WAP to work well.
I moved from the Sprint service with WAP because I thought Cingular would be better, boy am I regretting it.

I think Cingular's WAP service is a bunch of bull... I have only used it a few times because it is SLOW.
Another problem... when playing slots... I get an error message"cannot display malformed content" whenever I spin.

I have the same problem. I called re: WAP and the guy said that two of my passwords were different, and they needed to be the same (the WAP password and mywirelesswindow, I presume), and he made the changes. It worked, for all of 5 hours or so, and now I'm back in the same boat again - network not responding.

I have spoken with tech support here in the US as well as the UK. The Siemens S40 does not work on the Voicestream network. They, (tech support) seem to believe that it's the phone, not the network. I used a timeport and had the settings for the 2 set exactly the same, the timeport workes, the S40 did not/
