Got My MPx220 for ATT NBO but have a few questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

my mpx220 came for att nbo today and the fw is .343.

1. is this good or should i send it back and ask for what ver fw?

2. Where can i get a headset for this to listen to mp3's?

3. Is there an option or registry setting for me to have the outside lcd stay on for say 5mins and turn off the inside lcd they seem to turn on and shut off at the same time?

4.Where do i place mp3s that i want as my ringtone?

5. The earpiece volume is ok,could be better i have the earpiece volume turned all the way up and the call volume all the way up when in a call. are there any other adjustments that can be made to raise the volume.

6. Is there a delete all option in the contacts for on the phone, i can only figure out how to do them 1 by 1

Thanks everyone!

Answer to #4:

File manager ->Storage ->Application data ->Sounds

I have a question of my own......how do you toggle between the phone Contacts and the SIM? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

from the main screen, click on contacts. from here, if you scroll up it will bring you to your SIM contacts and then continue backwards to your phone's contacts. I just figured this out today.

in addition, the sim contacts should have a small icon that looks like a sim card.

I'm in the same boat. Just got mine today from ATT NBO and it has the .343 . Still charging it so haven't played with it yet. Kinda disappointed that I didn't get the latest firmware 1.30.

Is it worth exchanging for the 1.30 or is Motorola/ATT/Cingular going to offer the new updates via internet download? Probably will call ATT tomorrow and see what they say...

I also just received my 220. It is locked to AT&T, I'm in Toronto Canada. Can someone let me know where I can unlock it? I've tried a few places and it seems that my IMEI isn't yet in the moto database. Anyone know when I should expect it in there? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I may stand corrected, but I believe that 1.30 is the most updated Cingular firmware for the 220, but that .343 is the latest for the AT&T equipment. I also have the .343 from AT&T NBO and it works fine without some of the bugs mentioned on this forum for earlier firmware on the Cingular models.

thanks dwcliff703 for the clarification. so is the .343 the same FW as the 1.30 except one is from ATT and the other is from Cingular. If you don't mind me asking, how do you know this for a fact? That is great news if you are right!!!

I don't know it for sure. But the MPX220 phones originally bought at Best Buy for use with Cingular were version .325 and the updated version was .342 (orange sticker) and the newest version is 1.3 (black sticker). The only version sold thru AT&T NBO that people have in hand is the .343 version which seems to have all the fixes. The phones have software differences for use with AT&T (mmode) and Cingular, thus the version differences. I have a family member with a MPX220 on backorder thru the NBO and I will be interested to see if his phone has the same version I have (.343). I expect him to receive the same version, but we will see!!

Good assumption. My phone was in backordered since 11/22 thru ATT NBO. I called on 11/29 to ask for the status or an ETA. I was told it was still on backordered and they had no idea when they will come in. Surprising the next day, the phone was shipped out by them via Fedex overnight. Just got the phone yesterday but I wanted to charge the phone for 24hrs since the manual recommended it.

I will play with it tonight with the mindset that everything is fine. Kinda need that to really play with it. All this negative review about the old firmware really dampens the enjoyment of this new phone.

Btw, were you forced to sign up to a data plan? ATT NBO initially rejected my order since I picked the "on the go" data plan ($2.99). I was told that I have to pick a data plan for this phone which starts at $7.99 and above. So I picked the $7.99 data plan which gives me 1mb of downloads/month.

I have a family share plan for voice and thought they would hassle me about switching to data first plan, but they didn't. I have the $12.99 4MB plan and I will warn you that if you use the phone for internet much, especially on webpages, then you will max out 1MB really fast. Thru mmode you can check your data usage to keep an eye on it. The first month I had the MPX200 I easily went over the 1MB plan i had and had to up my plan to the 4MB plan. Enjoy the new phone!

AT&T has no good data plans. For $19.99/month, Cingular offers unlimited data - very good if you are using it as a modem for your laptop, or checking email from a server.

Thanks,
Mike

Since AT&T finally has these in stock, I went ahead and ordered another 220 to see if they have updated the software. Based on what folks have received though, it seems they're sticking with the .343, which is probably the most updated version for AT&T's MMode software. No biggie since I myself haven't experienced the bugs reported with the earlier Cingular handsets. But if AT&T has updated software, I want it.

Agreed. The Pocket Outlook syncs seamlessly with my POP3 email server and I find myself checking my email more frequently. Something which was a painfully agonizing experience with my V600 and MMode. I've also been browsing and downloading more frequently, including checking in to HoFo. I'm glad my plan is unlimited.

Hmmm......this doesn't seem to work for me.

OK, I just received my new handset and it is .343. Being that this is a new batch of phones and the better performance overall of the AT&T versions, I'm inclined to come to the conclusion that .343 for AT&T is the latest update and is comparable to Cingular's 1.3.

do you have any contacts in your sim card? if you want to test this, while in the contacts screen, click on Menu, then New SIM Contact. once done, this new SIM contact should appear by scrolling up.
