N-Gage QD video and program speed??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello. I was hoping that all you informed N-Gage and QD owners could help me out.
I am seriously considering buying a QD but am not sure about a few things. One, how does video look? I would like to watch anime episodes on it if possible. Two, how is the .pdf reader for Symbian on the phone. I would like to read documents quite a bit on it. Three, (and I hope this question is not violating the warez rule) do emulators run at full speed on the N-gage.
I really want a series 60 phone and the N-Gage seems to fit me the best. I would love to play a few emulated games, watch some anime now and again, play regular N-Gage games, and use the phone to read .pdf documents (learning Japanese, so a .pdf reader would be very handy). I would really appreciate any input users have me about these questions.
Thanks.

p.s. anyone using the .rss reader for Symbian? If so, can you view them offline? Thanks

Really? Cool!
What's the video player of choice for the ngage?

And most importantly - Has anyone written a tutorial on how to convert video to ngage format video?

Dang, now you got me wanting to watch Gundam and Ninja Scroll on my phone. (and it hasn't even arrived yet)

Yeah, there are a couple RSS aggregators for Series 60 out there. The best by far is HeadLine from WildPalm UK (shareware, 10 Euros). You can read everything offline after loading it up over GPRS or mRouting over BT. Even over GPRS, the beauty of RSS really shines; downloads are REALLY fast and small (depends on the RSS feed, but generally my feeds are 8-12 kb each). It's great.

I've not tried to read PDFs yet (or Office documents for that matter). Videos play best using the Xvid codec (using SmartMovie?). I think there are some hodge-podge tutorials floating around, but they should probably be updated... 3GP videos (what Series 60 can play with built-in software) are ok at best, so if you want quality, try encoding with Xvid.

Thanks so much for the info....now I am really excited about the QD.
The .RSS reader will save me alot of time....sync in the morning and read while at work (no cpu and bad phone signal).
Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies....

p.s. Anyone know how to edit the phone icon I have? That LG was when I was with Verizon I tried to edit my profile but I didnt see the way to change the icon...Thanks.

You mean your avatar here on the forums? I believe you go to your User Control Panel, then Edit Options, then at the very bottom will be Change Avatar. I think that's it.......

<!-- Begin rant...
HeadLine works great for me. My only problem (and this goes with all RSS aggregators) is actually finding good, QUALITY RSS feeds. I really can't stand RSS feeds which give you one stinking line of the article (if even). <grumble grumble> If you are going to be a tight-wad and not give me the whole article, at least give me a paragraph so I know whether it's worth firing up a browser and reading in full. The headline and five words doesn't cut it. I'll even accept advertising tag messages at the end of articles in a feed if they just give me the whole blankity blank article. <grumble grumble>

I just wanted to thank those of you who answered my questions about the N-Gage capabilities. I puchased one last night at EB Games and I have to say I am most impressed. All of the negative reviews I had seen for the original Ngage and the QD were (IMO) too harsh. The system is so small and responsive that it makes setting up a breeze. The only game I have so far is Tony Hawk - while the graphics arent PS2 qulality the game play is incredible and smooth - hope the rest of the games are like that.
I have a question though. My QD is set up for T-Mobile and I am on Cingular. I put in my SIM and the phone works just fine. But they have their WAP settings locked. Does anyone know how to get around this? I also read (but not quite understood) a couple of threads about upgrading firmware on the QD to circumvent the TMobile settings. Hope someone can help....not that big of a problem but for some reason when I put in the WAP settings for Cingular the connection fails....If anyone can help I would appreciate it....

Posted by: angel_wing0

u can enter your own cingular settings and be fine...

Posted by: buick454wnos

i think hes trying to say they are locked out

Posted by: angel_wing0

well the browser should not be locked in the 1st place...

Posted by: buick454wnos

the settings, tmo is known for being sneaky like that

Posted by: Ardeo

Yes, they are locked out. I am going down to my local T-Mo store today to see if they will unlock those settings for me
If that doesnt work I will just have to live with it I guess

Posted by: jun0ne

I believe the browser is locked. I am currently w/Fido and cannot access the Rogers access points even though Rogers has bought Fido.

Posted by: angel_wing0

strange...call fido about ut...they probably can offer u a solution~
