Changing 9900 faceplate?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've searched the forums but didn't find anything on this.
There are lots of cool faceplates for the 9900 on ebay but I can't find anything about how to change them. Is it an easy process? Will a verizon store do it for you if not?

Thanks,
Mosh

So am I to understand that the only way to swap faceplates involves drilling as described in that post?
Has nobody else done this?

I'm just having a hard time believing that only one person has had experiance with this.

Go to Home Depot and get the Husky 8in1 Precision Screwdriver SKU# 165355. It's the Torx set and you need to use T6, although I had to use T7 on a couple of them. Only about $6.

If you use a regular screwdriver you will more than likely strip the screws and never get them out.

Thanks for the information. I spoke to a Verizon rep and they said that some stores will do this for you but that it voids the warranty. So that stinks. She said if I do it myself, it also voids the warranty. Seems like it shouldn't be such a big deal as it's only a piece of plastic. Oh well.
Thanks again.

I really doubt they could make that stick. But, warranty law does varry from state to state. In Arizona, they have to prove the modification you made was the cause of the failure you are trying to get warranty service for.

Like on a new car, if you install headers and the bumper falls off they can't void your warranty for the bumper because of the headers.

At the very worst case keep the old faceplate and change it back if anything happens.

Also, as was said in a post above.. Make sure you have the right tool. Some phones use Phillips screws, some use Torx. Either way make sure you have a good quality driver to remove them or you will at the least mar the screws and at the most strip them out.
