Sidekick II Caller ID pictures

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok, so the Sidekick 2 let's you take 36 photos but also save 50 photos for Caller ID pictures. The only problem is, the only way I know to set Caller ID pictures is to take them from the photo gallery.

Has anyone figured out a way/hack to import pictures into the gallery so that you could use better quality pics for callerd ID pictures?

ps
most likely it will require having a dev kit/key installed and usb cable and using htConsole to upload/hack a pic.. and also, odds are that if you can upload pics as caller id photos, the pictures prob would have to be in a similar type format, resolution, and size as the ones that the sk2 camera takes..

(based on ringer uploads, the ringers you upload have to be created much like the Hifi ones and meet certain specifications, ie IMA wav, 4:! compression, under 100kb in size, etc..)

yeah i figured they'd have to be similar in attributes... that's fine. but i'd much rather put up edited/enhanced/better photos of my friends than take them with that cam.

yea, that could be pretty fun!
hehe..

i'll look into it this weekend. and add a post to this thread on my success or failure or any info...

There you go :-) I give this to my customers all the time

what? i dont see where that tells me how to add my own photo (one not taken with the sidekick cam) to my sidekick gallery.

hmm I see. Have your tried send and 640*480 pic to yourself via email and try to save that picture to your gallery? Not sure if what you are trying to do is possible. Checking up on that here.

Anyone make any progress with this yet?

It is definitely not possible to add images to the Gallery/PhotoID via email image attachments. I havent tried it with photo sms messages, but I suspect it's the same deal

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but that sucks so bad. The SK2 would be practically perfect if they only gave you the media freedom. This feature alone may prevent me from buying one.

wait , let me get this straight
if i wanted to do the caller id thing i dont have to save and keep the pic in my gallery? so i can delete it later and it will still show the caller id pic?
where does it keep the caller id pic?

Caller ID pic stays in another part of memory as a smaller cropped image. Once it's assigned to a contact you can delete the image from the gallery and it will remain on the contact.

so i've gone through and found good quality digital photos of all my friends, blown them up on my LCD monitor and taken the picture with my sidekick. It's still not perfect, but the picture is usually much better than what you'd normally get.

Oh man, it's a sad day when we have to lose that big of a generation in our photos just to get them on our phones.

But I'll be joining you anyway, regardless. If everybody just emails me pictures, then I cut out the middleman and I can have them on my phone when I'm out and I can play with them in the email at home. Done.
