is the treo 650 a UTMS device, just CDMA? Are they actually the same thing? It does support EDGE, right?

There are two versions, the CDMA (Sprint and others if they want to sign on) and GSM. The CDMA supports 1xRTT for "high-speed" data while the GSM supports EDGE for "high-speed" data.
