GPRS vulnerability?

I was wondering regarding the GPRS network. Since it is IP-based, and it is charged based on the amount of data transferred...what if someone finds out the IP of your mobile phone, and continuously 'pings' that IP? Wouldn't that rack up an enormous bill at the end of the month...?!? Is that possible, or do the GSM providers have something to protect us from this?

Good question. Unfortunately I'm almost certain VoiceStream Customer Service won't help us find an answer.

As I understand it, you're not assigned a public I.P. so you don't have to worry about it. No one will be able to ping you from the public network.

I wonder if people could launch DoS attacks against phones this way

So it would be through a proxy of some sort?
