iriver H320 or H120 aka ihp-120?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well, I had my eyes set on the ihp-120 for a long time. I really like the remote on that thing. But because it's discontinued, there are not many places taht have them in stock anymore. However, i did find one for $414 CAD and they might have it in stock.

But while searching for it, i found the H320 for ~$430 CAD.

I think the new firmware (non-north american) for the H320 allows you to play videos now which means i might be able to have that feature on the H320 as well..but it doesn't come with a remote which i really want.

Which one would you pick if you were me?

the H320, the colour screen is beautiful

Posted by: vihuelaplayer

that thing is beautiful i was ready to buy one myself, h120 is hideous compared to that thing up close. as for the video thing..where did you hear this? if true i will actually purchase it now

Posted by: mide

Thanks for the response!

The firmware upgrade is only for the non-north american version of the h320. If you go to iriver's site (non-north american one), they have the firmware up for download.

But the video has to be 10fps for it to play and there is a maximum length of play. There are some other conditions as well.

I don't know what happens if you put that firmware in the north americal model but hopefully, iriver will release a firmware updated for those as well.

Does anyone know if the h120 remote can be used on the h320?
I know it has a non-lcd remote for the h320.

Yeah!! The remote will fit!!

I prefer getting the Europe/Asian edition since the whole package will come with a better headphones, microphones, external battery pack...also, the US version don't have USB On The Go!!!

Posted by: mide

Due to the overwhelming support for the h320, I ordered it (actually, I lied. I wanted the h120 but I can't find any place that has it in stock ) But, I got my h320 today! It's smaller than I expected..but it's also thicker than I expected too :/. The screen is beautiful. Right now it's charging. When it's done the full charge I plan on upgrading the firmware to the korean version so I can play videos. Woohoo..
..now if only I can only find a lcd remote for sale..

@Tom_Harris
some users on misticriver found that upgrading their firmware to the korean one gave their machines USB on the go function albeit, it only works with machines that are self powered. Hopefully, they will release a US firmware that would "uncripple" the h320.

Did you upgrade the FW to the European version? Is it any better?

Posted by: mide

I actually upgraded the firmware to the Korean Version because it has some more benefits than the European firmware. Well, the one thing that the US version has is that it has a clock, supports DRM files and is compatible with WMP10, while the European/Asian Version has video support and USBTG (USB To Go). The major factor for me was the video playback and i didn't mind losing the DRM support so I upgraded the firmware and I haven't regretted it since.

^mide there are a lot of places you could have gotten the h120, and they are very cheap now

Like where??

Posted by: hofo_mofo

well i dunno how it is in the US but in Canada:

bestbuy: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodd...newdeptid=21166

there were more places, but i can see they arent available anymore...but bestbuy still has

Posted by: markogin

Well, $399 doesn't seem like a good price to me!!

Posted by: hofo_mofo

first off CAD...secod...when it came out it was selling in Canada for 599.99
and then it went to 499.99
then to 469.99
then 439.99 (H320 came out)
and then plateaued at 399.99...

Posted by: mide

Seems like BestBuy is out of stock now. ××××, i wanted h120. I never thought of BestBuy cause we never had one till like..2 months ago or something like that.

Well, at $400 CAD i think it is a good deal considering all the accessories and features it has. Definitely compareable to a 4g 20gb Ipod. I would have bought one in a second.

i love my iHP-120...its sick sick sick!!!

Posted by: mide

^ now you're just mocking me

Any ideas where to get a h120 lcd remote in canada, cause it's $25usd shipping if I get it from the Iriver site :/

Posted by: hofo_mofo

its not compatible...is it not?...the 120 has 2 headphone ports and a chip on the smaller second one...the remote for the H320 is a simple in line remote with no LCD...but does your unit have the the ports im talking about

EDIT: Looked at the H300 manual, yeah you have the same port head

Hi, I just got the H320 and was really bummed when i found out that it didnt play movies. How can i upgrade the firmware. I downloaded the korean firmware 1.25 and i dont know where to put it in order to install it. Can someone please help me ASAP. My aim is BuffKindaGuy...... Thanks

Posted by: BuffKindaGuy

I put the Firmware on it but now i cant connnect to it on my comp......WTF???? Can anyone help me out?

Posted by: mide

I hope you know what you were doing. If you put the korean firmware in, you lose the ability to listen to DRM music which isn't a big deal if you don't buy your music. This also makes your "media" port useless cause that was the port used to sync with WMP 10 to get your DRM music. Since the korean version isn't DRM compatible, you should use the "data" port to connect to your computer. Try turning off "usb charging" too if you find that connecting it via your data port just results in your unit charging.

If you read the instruction manual you'll see that you can keep the USB charging feature on and also connect to your pc.

Cheers

the remote for the H120 will work just as well. I've tried it with my friend's 320 at school. Probly find the remotes cheap on ebay or something.

goto misticriver, they have a lot of information there about everything that deals with the iriver DAPs

yeha misticriver.net is good, but there aren't nearly as many people on it as here on Hofo, so don't expect immediate answers. Use the subscribe to thread feature.

YAY!!.. i got my H100 remote for my H320 today plus iRiver released a new firmware, too. Now, i am truly content with my player.

For those who wants the H300 lcd remote, go to misticriver and someone by the name of Kylera can get you some as he is from korea. I opted for the H100 remote cause I think it looks better.
