7100 poll: Use your BB case or not.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Right now I am undecided. Sometimes I use the case..sometimes I don't. When I am out and about I usually take it out but when I am indoor alot or at my desk I would put it in the case.

Some people put it in the case because it saves battery and it protects the screen. But how much battery can you save? ...and for me I put a screen protector on and I have no problems from having it scratch.

Using it without the case let you look at the CID or who send you an email first. I find that more convenient.

Here's what the Krusell case looks like.

I always use a BlackBerry - any BlackBerry - in a case or a holster. I personally prefer a holster with a belt swivel clip. If you just put the BB in your pocket, the screen will get scratched and you will get pissed off. So, I always recommend a holster or a case - and if the magnet for "in holster" doesn't work, it gets returned.

eAccess sent me a note that they would have new cases and holsters very soon.

I use the case that came with it because it protects the screen and helps save battery. But I wouldn't mind a 3rd party case if it comes with a magnet to help save battery. The 7100 is more power hungry compared to my old 7280.

Another good store to check for blackberry accessories is :

http://www.smartphonedepot.com/

I've made a couple of purchases there and not only are their prices good, but their service is excellent!

Posted by: DerekToronto

When I had my 6280 I always use the holster. But 7100 is suppose to design as a phone first..so it should use like a phone.

Has anyone tried the Krusell case? It looks sharp but I'm guessing by the design that it doesn't support "in holster" not that that has to be a big deal.

These guys make good cases as well...

Posted by: AndyVX

The case that comes with the 7100 scratched up my screen somehow, so I stopped using it. Kinda ironic and annoying!

Posted by: DerekToronto

yeah...just like the case came with the ipod! grrr!

Grand and Toy has the WriteRight(Fellowes) Screen protectors for Ipaq 1910 $7.99 for 12... (Everywhere else $19.99) Put one of them on and you'll be safe!

Wirelessly posted (DocGo's cool phone: BlackBerry7100/3.8.0 UP.Link/1.1)

I also put a screen protector on my 7100 to avoid scratching the screen. Hope someone will come up with a nice leather swivel holster soon.

im waiting for the vajacase to come out

Posted by: DocGo

I love vaja cases too...it's just that, well, I change my cell phones and PDAs so often that I couldn't bring myself to spend so much for something that I may just use for a few months. But their cases are really good/well made.

Posted by: hofo_mofo

^yeah eh...its a pretty penny

but the speed they get it to you from Buenos Aries (Argentina) is amazing. And the quality is outstanding

this phone is just a temp for my next phone, that rogers will be hopefully getting, the Treo 650, in which vaja already has an ivolution case for it

this will not stop me from getting the 7100t/r case i will add it to my collection:

1. SE T610/T616 I-Volution case black with ultra clip
2. Treo 600 I-Volution case without ultra clip
3. BB 7100t/r case without ultra clip (colour unknown at present)
4. Treo 650 I-Volution Case without ultra clip (colour unknown at present) "?" (will rogers get the phone)?

your battery life will just about double if you use the case though...

^^

How? The 7100 screen turns off by itself...

Posted by: DocGo

The screen does turn itself off after a specified time but if any button gets pressed, the screen will turn back on again. So, I guess using a case with the magnet will help prevent that and, hopefully, prolong battery life.

I use the Rivet. Works great for me...

Any news on any new cases? They've sold so many 7100t phones that you'd think there'd be more options than what exist today. Why not a case similar to OEM made of leather with a swivel clip and magnet!

BUMP

no idea, i was wondering that because the screen turns itself off too

but it does, i didnt originally use the case when i got my 7100 and got just about a day of life. now i get over 2 days when using the case...

Posted by: DerekToronto

If you set you screen brightness to 30%..you'll get double that.

Posted by: jtgwinatl

I only use the case when i'm walking around , otherwise i just set it down . In my truck the e-grips really help. Before i had to keep the 7100 in the holster 'cause i was afraid i'd slam the brakes and it'd slam into the dash. After the e-grips, i've slammed on the brakes a few times and the bb stays put....I would though, like a nicer (more secure)case for the 7100.

I just bought one of these on ebay, I'll let you know how they are when it comes in.

Posted by: KendallParis

Now, that one I like. I want a case that will simply cover the up the speaker. Simple, but effective.

Posted by: exander

Where can I get a screen protector for the 7100g?

Posted by: mobilehavoc

Check ebay..I picked up 3 yesterday from the local pickup in NYC...work well.

I just want a holster (prefer leather) with a swiveling clip...

Posted by: exander

Thanks. I'm kinda partial to the plastic holsters myself.

EDIT: I only see screens for the 7100t on ebay. Have you seen any for the G?

Posted by: mobilehavoc

Those are the ones I got...it's basically the same screen. They cover the entire screen and the Blackberry area above the screen. It's not exactly a CUSTOM fit per se but it does the job and it's not bad...you can get 15 of them for $15 if you plan on abusing your 7100g!

I got 3 for $5

Posted by: mobilehavoc

You know what really pisses me off...those crazy people at RIM/Blackberry have AWESOME BB cases that they use themselves but never sell to end users for some bizarre reason.

I was at an expo in NYC where Blackberry was out in force and they all had awesome holsters/cases for their respective Berries including the 7100 series! This was months ago...

I asked one of those wacky Canadians where I can get the cases and he said I couldn't! They only sell them to employees!! WTF?!?!

Posted by: exander

Cool thanks.

Posted by: diggler

how are the screen protectors for the 7100t? i hope they are very clear, as much as i do not want the phone to get scratched up; i do not want a cloudy-looking screen either

Posted by: verticl

yeah i am waiting for a case for the 7100g...

i am going to get some screen protectors as well.. will the ones for the t fit the g? the screen almost looks the same...

we need more stuff for the 7100g!

@mobilehavoc

i think if they get made for employees we can probably get them, i will dig and see what i can find..

For the price the acren protectors are excellent. They easily cover the entire screen and are very clear. Most importantly though is no air bubbles!

I put mine on the second day I had the 7100g so my screen is in perfect condition. If you live in the Nyc area you should just go the store and pick them up. They sell lots of other cell phone acessories as well including BlackBerry stuff but nothing for the 7100 yet.
Its located on the west side of 3Rd avenue between 34th and 35th street and I believe it was called Cellularking or something.

An idea for Suretype 2.0. Determine what word is being typed based on the context in the sentence!

Posted by: RCasanova

I cant stand the one that comes with the 7100r, I need the ability to swivel it to keep it out of the way. Getting in and out of vehicles all day it jabs into my side.

Posted by: mobilehavoc

Hahahah! I just read my last post on this thread which I typed on the 7100g...I can't believe I typed that using Suretype. The word "screen" got garbled but apart from that, not too shabby.

I hope they continue to improve SureType with future BB OS releases.

I'm with you 110%...I had to make conference calls today from the car and the damm thing is next to impossible to remove and insert into the holster when you're in a car with a seatbelt. With the 7200 series, you could swivel it sideways while in the car to make that easier.

Not sure why RIM decided to abandon the swivel approach...I always loved that about their holsters.

Posted by: RCasanova

Apparently they have them available now? I am going to check it out tomorrow. But yah so awkward. I mean the BB's are essentially for "mobile employees" hence being in and out of vehicles all day. I dont know why they strayed from the convenient swivel clip. Maybe to boost accessory sales haha
