Question for 4mula1 and all SX1 Owners on T-Mobile

I returned my SX1 yesterday, I already misss it, because I could not get the MMS to work - either for sending pictures or text messages.

I am now using my old SE T610 and I noticed that all pictures are sent via T-Zones. However, after doing a reset, settings only, I have a choice of accessing T-Zones either via T-Zones or MMS. I chose MMS and it works, I get into T-Zones and somewhere it shows the connedtion as being MMS. Pictures are still being sent via T-Zones.

My question is: Are you sure that your pictures are being sent via MMS, not T-Zones? I remember when I first got the SX1 there was a choice for sending pictures between T-Zone and MMS. However, I never saw the choice againg, even after a reset.

Any help will be appreciated since this will help me decide whether to get another SX1 or not.

Thank you.

I've always used the Siemens OTA configuration tool, and I've never had one bit of trouble. I've even used it for my wife's SL65 and it worked straight away.

When you say you did a reset, did you do a *#7780# or *#7370#? The *#7370 will wipe that sucker clean, and I've had to do it to mine once. If you did the other it will leave your contacts and calendar. I had a problem with a corrupt contact so I had to do the more permanant format.

My pictures aren't being sent via T-Zones, but are sent via GPRS.

You couldn't sent text messages, either? Sounds like the SMSC was messed up. Strange. Any SIM I pop into my SX1 and it always grabs the SMSC from the SIM.

I must have done the *#7780#, the one indicated in the manual under troubleshooting at the end of the book. It reset some things that were just trivial, like sounds, vibrating, etc.

1.- What is the SMSC and where does it reside or how does it inter-relate to the SIM?
2.- Is this SMSC problem something that is fixable with a *#7370# reset?
3.- How does the SMSC get corrupted or is it something inherent to a particular unit?

Thank you for your input.

SMSC is the number that your SMS are sent to and routed by the network from there. It stands for Short Message Service Centre.

You have been holding up to your SX1 for quite a while now! Just courious, how long have you had it? I tried to get another one and see how I liked it the second time, but it had a problem with the clock that I couldn't fix since the first day. Got rid of it again!! SX1 must not be my phone I guess. I now have an S65 which I really like, even if also this one have some bugs. Siemens makes nice phones and I like the FW upgrade that they privide but I must say they are always very buggy. Hu! May be that's why they give you FW upgrades!! They can't make it right the first time

I love my SX1, I only have 2 complaints....The ringers got lower after updating to FW12 and all the third party app's unorganize themselves if I restart the phone sometimes...Other than that I love it...Awesome RF,Bluetooth,S60,nice design, stereo MP3 and a camcorder, couldnt ask for more(maybe theme support)...If they fix these small issues and give us Series 60 2.0 it will be the perfect phone(atleast for me).

I ordered mine December 15, 2003 and had it the 29th. I ordered when it had been out for only a week! Almost a year now! I've read a lot of horror stories about it and for some reason mine has been good to me. I had one major issue with a corrupted contact that forced me to reformat, but I was able to restore my contacts from a backup so I was back in business in no time.

The SX1 stands out as not only the first non-Nokia S60 phone to hit the market, but probably the most widely used. I don't see much on the Sendo X so the SX1 seems to have better market penetration.

I've been working a little bit with a programmer of an app that's not familiar with the SX1, as he does all of his development with a 7610. He was quite surprised to hear how Siemens handles T9 word scrolling, since it's very different from Nokia.

Hopefully Siemens will continue with Symbian phones, the SX1 was certainly a steep learning curve, but for those of us lucky enough to have had a ood experience with the phone, it's been worth it.

Nokia licensed the Series60 UI to help make it the dominant smartphone platform. Currently Siemens (SX1), Nokia, Sendo (X), and Panasonic (X700) all have S60 handsets available.
