PC can't recognize my 8600. Please Help

decided that a new thread might be more beneficial...

I just bought a data cable for the 8600 that I got off of Ebay.ca, and I just can't seem to get it working.

Some Info: I'm with Bell Mobility and I've installed the curitel drivers and I'm running Windows XP SP2

The problem: Before I can even start running gagin or bitpim, I need help getting my computer to recognize my phone at all! When I plug it in, it shows up as an unrecognized USB device. When I go to the device manager, nothing shows up, and I don't have a "modem" level, where I've read it's supposed to be.

Has anyone run into this problem and shed some light for me? thanks.

P.S. I've read almost every thread on the 8600 and using datacables, and I didn't come across any solutions.

Did you install the USB driver?

I'm having the exact same problem! Someone...anyone...know how to fix this?

Install the USB driver. If it shows the right device in the device manager, then it should work.

BTW, sometimes it's the cable which is bad. The first cable I got didn't work, I tried everything but it still didn't connect, I had to take it back and get another one.

Yes, I've installed the USB driver. Over and over and over again. I'm really beginning to think I have a faulty cable. And I tried it on my friend's computer...that same thing happened, so I'm sure it's not my computer.

Just return it and get a new one. Try to get a serial cable if you have a serial port, they're easier to use because you don't need a driver.

I've seen a lot of people refer to the Curitel drivers. Can anyone tell me how to get them? I've been to the website (http://www.curitel.com/english/) and found information on the phone that corresponds to the 8600 (the TX55C), but I don't see a place to get the drivers. Thanks if someone can help me.

They're not on their website.

Have you tried this driver?

If you did, you can still try with the USB driver from DataPilot.

Thanks for the response. I have tried the carston drivers. And now that I download the drivers from the DataPilot site, I believe I have already tried them also. When I plug the phone in and it looks for a driver, it can't find the driver automatically, and even when I point it right at the directory where the drivers are, it doesn't "find" them. Any hints here? I notice that the driver for the 8600 on the DataPilot site is the same link as the one they have for a driver for a USB serial converter cable. I'm wondering if that is right? So, if they aren't on the website, how do people get these curitel drivers? Any other options? Thanks
