i only know how to use it with a headset but i know there must be a way to use voice dial without one

The 5600 does not have voice dial like the MPx220, unless you use an application like the excellent Fonix. It has voice tags, where one attaches a voice tag to a given number. In the 220 one can say a name and it will search it.

Is that what you meant?

Hold the volume-down key (on the left side of the phone) until it asks you to speak the contacts name.

And on the 220 is the volume UP key.
